I get the humor, but, if one of your family members is a sleepwalker, its actually allot scarier, some people, do weird stuff when the sleep walk, and, yes, they could sound like someone trying to break into your bedroom.

Break in at night? They're looking for a fight.
    Good job by the homeowner.

When room clearing this often happens. I've never been in a combat scenario, but i have some training. Breaching (in this case kicking in the door) is almost always loud but once you're inside the target building you don't want to make any unnecessary noise. Trained professionals (if they were the home invaders) would have done something similar up to the point of clearing that hallway/bedroom and getting shot at. BTW quick rules of thumb when getting shot at: return fire (THIS SHOULD BE YOUR FIRST INSTINCT), seek cover (or get low), and finally (IF APPLICABLE) determine and communicate (if not alone) the distance, direction, and descriptions of the enemy.

Having a gun is great self defense but i really think everyone should upgrade their doors to withstand a lot more force
Edit: thank you all for my first heavily liked comment!
    now id like to address some comments;
" not just the door but the frame and bolts/screws" when i referred to doors i really meant the whole package i apologize for my mistake.
"what about the windows they can enter through them too" yes but typically they sit higher and require a lot more work to get into the house, unless you leave your windows unlocked.
"id rather have a gun, what if they still get in what then" now i didn't say don't have a gun, i just simply think having a reinforced door will give you more time to respond to a thread.
"i cant afford that" if its a home you own and know will keep for the rest of your life id save up for more security, but it was a small suggestion that could benefit everyone is all.

    • @sanityone649

Absolutely. There are better locks for doors that screw to the door frame and clamp the door so that it's extremely difficult to kick the door.
As u can see here...there was no lock. The device looked like a lock, but was only screwed into a half inch or so of wood.

@@emmaseay4068 I don't know. What you said is what I also used to assume..."If they're kicking in the door while you're home, then the target is YOU."
But now, after taking an interest in local crime, I'm not so sure. In case after case, the only "planning" or "forethought" that goes into these scenarios is, "We were riding around in Larry's car when Curly told us he knew a place we could hit a lick."
Then when someone ends up getting killed, the accomplices all cry, "Moe wasn't supposed to shoot anybody! He was just supposed to point the gun while we robbed the house!"
My main point is that, based on what I'm seeing locally, there's little to no planning put into a home invasion like this.
There are "valuables" in that house.
Let's go in and get the "valuables."

@@tonyjay617 I don't buy that. It only works from a very individualistic perspective. Guns are a serious problem, but in countries where there are a lot of guns they are also a serious solution. In countries where there are not a lot of guns, you can't introduce the solution without making the problem worse for everyone. Where I live, guns are very hard to get and the result is you're more likely to experience violence, but you will very rarely be seriously hurt in those incidents. Most you'll get is a few bruises most fo the time. On the occasions where your life actually is in danger, you'd want a gun, but in order for that to be feasible you'd have to accept a MUCH higher level of danger overall, not just for you but for everyone you care about.
If I lived in the US, I'd love to own guns, because shooting is fun and I'd want to protect myself. Where I live now, I'd still like a gun, but I'm happy to not have one if it means the fuckwit down the road can't get one either. If we get a huge influx of illegal guns my mind might change, but in the meantime US values on guns don't apply here and I'm fine with that.

I was a victim of a home invasion 15 years ago... 2 am I was sleeping... Heard my door explode, first thought strangely enough was that this was an unforgivable prank...By the time I opened my eyes I was pistol whipped and hogtied in my bed while they continued to beat my face with their weapons... I had multiple guns but no time to react. After demolishing my house and getting no more than a laptop, car keys, phone and wallet they asked each other if they should kill me. There was an agreement to do so... They put a pillow and gun to the back of my head... I prayed to god to please help me... There was a long pause as I wondered what death was going to be like... They took the gun off of me and left in silence. I'm not sure why they showed me mercy but today I have a beautiful 9 month old daughter as I begin fatherhood.

I don't think I'd want that loaded firearm next to my head while I'm asleep. I keep mine right next to me on the stand while I sleep. I don't think that it would take me any longer to get to it than searching for it under my pillow. Maybe that's just me but I'd be more comfortable without a loaded gun resting 3 inches from the back or side of my head. I toss and turn a lot btw.

Blona Ochona some ammo are designed to shoot through walls yes. But many companies do design ammo in which it is made NOT to penetrate. Defense ammo for example are made to “mushroom”, break into pieces, and or both. Assuming if he did have a AR15, with ammo that is not made for defense- assuming FMJ/Armor piercing rounds. More variables will come into play. How far is the neighbors house from each other? Do they have cinder blocks? Bricks? Is the homeowner home made of dry wall? Plaster? It’ll take a few rounds to go clean through cinder blocks. Like I said. Lots of variables. But I’m gonna assume the best. Look of having an AR15, as a good thing. Not what happens if a stray bullet hits the neighbors. Facts are- the homeowner had a very nice set up. And, was in action in less than 10 seconds. If he had an AR-15. Positive outcome, at LEAST one less home intruder in the world. One less person for us to worry about. One less reason to have an AR-15.

Underrated comment. Adding door armor would give you significantly more time to respond, might even make them think twice about it. You need time to wake up. That door failed too quickly, like most will without any reinforcement. If you have a larger house that also buys you some time.
Another thing, have a dog. My dog would be barking like crazy and vicious in response to this type of noise. It's an alarm and a natural fear factor for anyone entering that there is a large animal not happy around. This alone will cause most to abort the attack. If not, dog will move quickly, take down first attacker and give time needed to get shots on target.

1st have a screen door, and then a front door with little to no windowing
2nd follow rounds steady not too quick so you can control your aim
3rd aim to race for the front if you can get there to face that door and if you can't then a corner like in this video is also a perfect tactic.

Oh and it was the day before my last finals in college, so I had to take those in a completely fucked up state of mind. Bought a 1911 and security camera after that. In addition to a home defense weapon. Fortify your door with a good dead bolt, with 3 and a half inch screws. Put three and half in screws in all three door hinges. Add some locks to the storm door and always keep the storm door lock. If so, it would have taken them a good more at least ten to twelve kicks and by that time you got your sights and are locked and loaded and weighting on them. I truly believe fortifying all entry doors and windows makes it ten times harder to kick in the door. Also, a good strong door helps as well. That door looked thin and old.

That way the robbers can scout it out and think it's only innocent old couple living there but really they had 9 kids who are over 20 years. Later that week 5 guys were found dead attempting to rob the home. Idk if this is true I just heard about it from people I know they said it was on inside edition or something.

      Tolerance
Oh, these people are over reacting.
These guys are so misunderstood. It’s our fault that they
did this. We need to look inwardly and find out what it is that we are doing
wrong and how we have failed them as a society. We need to reach out to them.
We have somehow offended them and now they are only acting out the only way
they know how. It’s not their fault, it is our fault because we failed them. We
need to be more sensitive to their feelings and more accepting and tolerant of
their ways. We need to change the way we live as a society and live like they
would like us to live so as not to further offend them. These are good boys and
just need a little understanding and a chance in life. They did not mean to
harm anyone and were responding the only way they knew how. We cannot fault
them for that, can we? It’s up to us to apologize to them for not catering to
their sensitivities. We need to be more diversified, accepting, embrace them,
and allow them to continue to live in our neighborhoods, play with our
children, and carry on with this sort of behavior to show that we mean them no
harm and accept them just the way they are.
They are good boys and were on their way to their
grandmother’s house for Bible Study when this happened. They did not mean any
harm and we need to be tolerant and accepting of their behavior. They're just
