I've been doing both! I've been putting off the big ones and the short ones haha I've been reading pretty much only books with 300-400 pages for some reason!
And Then There Were None is a fantastic book and classic for a reason. I hope you enjoy it too. Picture of Dorian Grey is also amazing. Two of my all time favourites.
Persepolis is a wonderful book that everyone should read. I'm not myself a fan of graphic novel, but this, oh my ! Its style, its story, its overall message, is really really worth your time.
I looved Dorian Gray. It is sooo dark, it is horror and creepy, but totally worth it. I read it in secondary school and saw an amazing play based on the book (was a mandatory part of our English literature lessons, and awesome. never seen so many good adaptations from books).
I just read The Picture of Dorian Grey last week and i loooved it! It was so mysterious and dark, and the writing of Oscar Wilde is amazing. I especially loved his thoughts on different subjects such as the power of words, uttered through Lord Henry's speeches. Quite amazing actually.
My TBR for the YEAR includes Augatha Christie and Stephen Fry. I have no clue why I haven't read these two, but no more! They shall be read this year. Excited to see what you think of the books :)
I absolutely love the Dark Tower series!!! I'm a huge fan of Stephen king and have read all his books. There are actually 7 books in the series and he started writing the first book when he was 18 like in the seventies and finished the last maybe six or seven years ago....maybe a little longer. So you will notice a difference in the writing as you go, but it is one of my all time favorites. Anyway, there is also a graphic novel representation of the series. It follows a different order than the novels so I recommend reading one or the other at first just so you don't spoil anything. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the series.
I really hope you like And Then There Were None! It's one of my all time favourite books, and what got me started (and hooked) on crime novels! Dark Tower series is awesome as well :) Was not blown away by Dorian Gray to be honest, but that's just my personal preference.. Nice tbr, hope you enjoy them all!
I would love to see a vlog style video! I like the idea of reading a bunch of smaller books this month to jump start your reading goal - I think I'll do that too! And I cannot wait for you to read The Hero of Ages! It is so so good, I loved it so much! The whole series is amazing!
I'm loving your videos lately, Emily! I only found your channel last week but I keep coming back to watch more - your recommendations are great and I love how ambitious you are with your TBR, it motivates me to read more of my own pile!
I loved the Dark Tower series. That is a very nice copy of the book I had to read the whole series through mass market paperbacks but it was worth it. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I did. Have A HAPPY NEW YEAR
The dark tower is an incredible series! The gunslinger is a rough read. It really doesn't compare to the rest of the series however, so please keep in mind that if you hate the gunslinger, the books get better. You will be hooked by the third book :)
Would love to see a vlog of your progress with your short book readathon. I have a few shorter books that have been sitting on my shelf for awhile so I just might join you on this one 😄
I feel like in Booktube community with graphic novel/comics booktubers over look the the actual art and just concentrate on how fast they can read them. I love comics/ graphic novels and am very appreciative of the art and time someone has put in. When it comes to reviews the actual art isn't talked about or summed up quickly. The story is told in that format also and can give insight that words may not. Not pointing fingers at anyone.
Ghost World is probably my favorite graphic novel (so far, I haven't read a lot of them either). They also made a movie based on it and it's even better, one of my favorites of all time
I love hero of ages! Brandon Sanderson wrapped up that trilogy so freaking well! Also you should read the novella called "Secret History" by Brandon Sanderson, you will LOVE it spoiler it may or may not be about Kelsier 😱
Sounds like a great January reading for you I love high howey and the handmaiden tale is one of my favourites I hope you enjoy them both too. Happy new year 🎉
Emily! I went to the library today and bought 4 books for $3.50! Thanks to you! Books sold at the bookstore are pretty expensive so I'm soooo glad I have such a cheap alternative! However, I did just buy "those girls", "you", and "dark matter" on book depository because those are newer and I really wanted to read them
Oh I haven't seen that graphic novel before, I def will look into it seeing as I enjoyed the actual novel. As for graphic novel recs, i would really suggest looking into Vietnamerican (it's an autobiography, if I'm remembering correctly). It has great artwork as well as an interesting historic perspective on refugees.
I really recommend Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers, it's the first book of the His Fair Assassin trilogy. The plot is really interesting and executed well, and the romance is not mushy at all.
I read the Giver recently and I really enjoyed it. It was my first Dystopian read and I think it was a great introduction to the genre. Happy New Year!! All the best with your reading this month!
1. The Giver can easily be read in a day. Wasn't my favorite but I think that's just because I read it when I was older. 2. I Dream of Electric Sheep also has a movie from the 80's starring Harrison Ford called Blade Runner. It's um... long. Maybe slightly boring, ,but also very intriguing. If that makes sense.
i really enjoyed the giver! i also read it in high school. i would re read it and always recommend it. though i had a lot of trouble getting into the picture of Dorian Gray.
Hi Emily! First off, I love your channel! ❤️ Your videos are amazing & I love that all of them tend to have a ton of books I never heard of! Graphic novels are some of my fave things to read! You gotta check these out when you have the chance! - The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl - Zodiac Starforce - Nimona - The Walking Dead - Orange: The Complete Collection - Scott Pilgrim - Seconds!!! (It was one my favorite graphic novels this year!! I loved it so, so much!)
Oooooh! For graphic novels recs I suggest the Paper Girls series. It's by the author of Saga, Brian K. Vaughn and it's sci-fi with teen girl characters so what's not to love?
Have you looked into "The girl who circumnavigated Fairyland in a ship of her own making" or any of the other works by Catherynne M. Valente? For sure some of my favourites!
Wool by Hugh Howey is a good book. I've read it, but I haven't read the next two books yet because its a trilogy. I have just have to et in the mood to read them lol.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the book! I have not read the Handmaid's Tale, but I have read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and I really liked that one
Ah The Giver is amaaaazing! I watched the movie when it came out and I enjoyed it, but it had been like 5+ years since I'd read the book so if there were any of those annoying discrepancies (cough, Harry Potter) I didn't notice. Might not be the case if you read and then watch right after.
I just found your channel and subscribed. I look forward to hearing about what you actually read and what you thought of them. I read A Tale of Two Cities in the fall - the classic format - so I'd be interested to hear about the graphic novel. Intrigued!
The Giver movie made me so mad, I usually don't mind differences between books and their movie (even though the book is always better) but The Giver is one of my favorite books of all time and the movie changed the story so much because it was just trying to get as much hype as The Hunger Games/Divergent (which it didn't). They overplayed the romance, made it futuristic (wtf why???), and changed the ages of the characters. I really wouldn't recommend it. The book, however, is amazing and I think you'll really enjoy it!
I read the Giver in middle school...it was my first dystopian book I ever read (back then there wasn't nearly as much dystopia as there is now). I feel like so much dystopia now is based on that book, along with 1984. I think the book is much better than the movie.
don't be put off the dark tower series by the 1st book, it gets sooo much better but you do need to read it to understand the rest. one of my all time favourite series!
The giver is so good! I love it! When I was in middle school I also read a book called The Devils Arithmetic and it was amazing. A short novel that got me into reading in high school was Catcher in the Rye. If you haven't read the last two books I mentioned, you must! :) Ps The perks of being a wallflower was a great read as well
Ooh I love the classics! I think Classics and Fantasy are my 2 fave genres...also just straight up non-fiction on whatever I am interested in at the moment. Did you ever have to read Lord of the Flies in school? That one's definitely a must-read. I wouldn't quite call it dystopian (in a way it sort of is but it isn't....lol that probably doesn't make sense but you'll see what i mean if you decide to read it) but it deals pretty indepthly with human nature and what happens when you take away society, laws, morals, etc. Anything Dickens is good. I also really like Thomas Hardy. Especially Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Far from the Madding Crowd (also was recently a movie with Carey Mulligan, and the BBC made a really good TV movie of Tess with Eddie Redmayne before he got really famous). Curious...have you read Les Miserables in French? I've read it in English. I don't know any French (I know, bad since I live in Canada...but i am from the States...lol). I'm curious how it compares in French to its translation in English.
Sounds like a great TBR - If you like Earthsea you might also enjoy the movie by Studio Ghibli :) I haven't read the books yet myself, but heard there are some differences, but I still think the movie is pretty wonderful! I hope you also enjoy it :) Love your videos :)
graphic novel suggestions : essex county (it didn't have many words but was surprisingly emotionally evocative and was a canada reads runner up a few years ago) and v for vendetta (different from the movie, but no less of a statement on society).
Nice idea. I try to alternate between bigger and smaller books. There are some books on your list that are on my TBR. The Picture of Dorian Gray and the Giver. I just finished And Then There Were None. I enjoyed it, though it is not the best book I ever read. I can recommend the 2015 BBC miniseries though. That is wonderful. (and I think better than the book).
I've come across from your beauty channel, which I've been subscribed to for a couple of years now. It appears you and I have similar taste in books, yours being a bit wider taste than mine. Lol. Really enjoying this channel so far!
The Handmaid's Tale is an amazing book and there is about to be a Hulu series for it as well, which will hopefully be good. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favourite novels! There is a movie for it that came out a couple years ago, but I highly recommend NOT watching as there was several scenes that featured sex, which was brought up slightly throughout the book but definitely not as a major topic like the movie made it seem.
thats a really good idea! usually i keep my short books for towards the end of the year so if I'm behind on my reading challenge i just binge read it XD
can you start listing all the books you mentioned in the downbar? because - sometimes i didn't hear the name but the plot sounds interesting so i have to rewind a bunch to get the name so i can add it to goodreads and sometimes i can't quite hear what you said or read the cover (but only sometimes!!!) -i like to reread your videos after i read the books you mention because i like to compare your opinion that made me want to read the book vs how i liked the book and i don't know which videos have what until i watch them I hope you read this!!!!
hello! I have just recently subscribed and I looked through your list of videos and couldn't find anything indicating this, but would you be able to talk about in a video how you pick the books you read? I find myself struggling a lot to pick a book. I'm pretty sure having too many options make me give up. On another note, I just read the Winner's trilogy in 3 days because of your recommendation and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I loved how the characters evolved so much within the story. I have also added more of your 2016 recommendations to my to-read list. Definitely going to keep coming around!
I find it hard to finish series...I find I get excited for the first and second then, find the third hard to finish...I loose interest but want to complete the series x
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep actually has a movie adaptation. I haven't read the book yet (I really hope to get to it this year), but the movie is called Blade Runner. I'm really picky about movies and they rarely hold my interest long enough for me to finish watching or get invested in the story/characters, but Blade Runner is fantastic. It's one of my all-time favorites. Plus it stars Harrison Ford and I adore him.
If you ended up liking the Ursula Le Guin's book, check out The word for world is forest, from the same author. I liked it :) PS: Je ne sais pas pourquoi j'ai commenté en anglais, j'ai surement été prise dans la flot de la vidéo ;p
personally i did not like the giver. but thats bc there is a ton of cliffhangers and the 3 books after it had nothing to do with first book so none of the lose ends are tied up. if u read the book then watch the movie, you will probably find the movie disappointed. in my opinion it was well made but it was too different than the book. hope this helps :)
I can not believe you haven't read The Dark Tower series by Steven King - it's my favorite fantasy series , even better than the game of thrones and lord of the rings - enjoy, the gunslinger is only the beginning of an amazing journey !!
There are 7 books in the Dark Tower series, they are kinda weird, but I don't think they are as weird a other Stephen King's books. Also, the movie of The Giver is okay, but it's not that amazing or anything special. But your TBR is lovely. ^^
Wow!!! So glad that your channel got so many subscribers!!!! You really deserve so many subscribers!!!! I still remember when i subscribed to you had 1K sub and i was she is an amazing booktuber I hope you reach 1M!!!!
Sounds like a good plan! A casual vlog-style thing. That's unusual, normally people put off the longer ones 😄
I've been doing both! I've been putting off the big ones and the short ones haha I've been reading pretty much only books with 300-400 pages for some reason!
The giver is actually the 1st book of a series of 4 books. If you like it, make sure to check out the other 3!
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is an incredible graphic narrative and I also loved Fun Home by Alison Bechdel :)
Really excited to hear what you think of Binti and Every Heart a Doorway!!!! And looking forward to your December wrap up!
Yes, The Giver. I read it in fifth grade and did not really understand it. I re-read it a few years ago and loved it!
I'd love it if you did a vlog of your read-a-thon, I love to see your opions of the books while you're reading them and after
I LOVE The Handmaid's Tale. I read it in my book club, and it's definitely one of my top books of 2016.
"And then there were none" is soooo good!
I've read and watched The Giver and I love both in different ways. I've also read a shorter version of Dorian Gray for school and I really liked it.
Don't worry for the thief serie, :-) each book concludes its arc, the problem is that they are so good and we want more!
I looved Dorian Gray. It is sooo dark, it is horror and creepy, but totally worth it.
I read it in secondary school and saw an amazing play based on the book (was a mandatory part of our English literature lessons, and awesome. never seen so many good adaptations from books).
I've been wanting to read the Picture of Dorian Gray for a long time - this has definitely motivated me!
Can't wait to get to it :)
I just read The Picture of Dorian Grey last week and i loooved it! It was so mysterious and dark, and the writing of Oscar Wilde is amazing. I especially loved his thoughts on different subjects such as the power of words, uttered through Lord Henry's speeches. Quite amazing actually.
The Giver is an AMAZING book! I hope you love it. The movie was good, small differences from the book as usual
My TBR for the YEAR includes Augatha Christie and Stephen Fry. I have no clue why I haven't read these two, but no more! They shall be read this year. Excited to see what you think of the books :)
When you finish 'The Hero of Ages' read 'The Way of Kings' then read Mistborn book 4 then 'Words of Radiance' then Mistborn books 5 and 6
You're going to love the Giver! The movie is good too, but I still think the book is better :).
I love those vloggy readathon videos!! Please do it!!
I absolutely love the Dark Tower series!!! I'm a huge fan of Stephen king and have read all his books. Okay, OBSESSED with your shirt!!!!
Good luck with your TBR!! You got this!
I love your taste in books! Thank you for the recommendations! Beautiful bookshelf!
I would love to see a vlog style video! I like the idea of reading a bunch of smaller books this month to jump start your reading goal - I think I'll do that too! And I cannot wait for you to read The Hero of Ages! It is so so good, I loved it so much! The whole series is amazing!

THE GIVER IS AMAZING!!!!!! I READ IT AND SAW THE MOVIE TWICE!!
I loved the Dark Tower series. That is a very nice copy of the book I had to read the whole series through mass market paperbacks but it was worth it. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I did.
Have A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Happy New Year :)
I read the Giver recently because my kids read it in school and I was intrigued. I liked it.
The dark tower is an incredible series! The gunslinger is a rough read. It really doesn't compare to the rest of the series however, so please keep in mind that if you hate the gunslinger, the books get better. You will be hooked by the third book :)

Oh I'm reading 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' too! very interesting book.
I read the dark towers series 3 times! First was around 20 years ago😀
It would be interesting to see your TBR for books written in French. I'm always on the lookout for good books in the languages that I speak.
Hi Emily! I recommend you every single Agatha Christie's book, they're so so good!

However, I did just buy "those girls", "you", and "dark matter" on book depository because those are newer and I really wanted to read them
Yay! So glad you found some good deals! Dark Matter is awesome I hope you'll love it! Prepare yourself for You, it's really creepy!

I love the idea of a vlog style readathon!
Big YES for vlog from your readathon! :)
I am half way through the Hero Of Ages... I am obsessed with the Mistborn Trilogy! It's so good! I do not want it to end...
good news! There is more Mistborn (with a couple of same characters)
I can't wait to get to it! There's another 3 books out in the same world so far and more to come!
I read the Giver recently and I really enjoyed it. It was my first Dystopian read and I think it was a great introduction to the genre. Happy New Year!! All the best with your reading this month!
Happy New Year!
LifewithEmilyFox thank you 😊
I read The Gunslinger back in 2015. It was pretty slow and I remember hating the way they talked. I do need to reread it though
Dark Tower is THE best!

I loved the Earthsea series when I was growing up!
Hope I'll enjoy it!
Hi Emily! First off, I love your channel! ❤️ Your videos are amazing & I love that all of them tend to have a ton of books I never heard of! Graphic novels are some of my fave things to read! You gotta check these out when you have the chance!
- The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
- Zodiac Starforce
- Nimona
- The Walking Dead
- Orange: The Complete Collection
- Scott Pilgrim
- Seconds!!!
I'm not really into graphic novels, but the Persepolis is incredible
Wool by Hugh Howey is a good book. I've read it, but I haven't read the next two books yet because its a trilogy. I have just have to et in the mood to read them lol.
Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the book! I have not read the Handmaid's Tale, but I have read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood and I really liked that one
I picked that one up recently!
LifewithEmilyFox cool! if you ever get around to it I hope you enjoy it!

Ps The perks of being a wallflower was a great read as well
Verenise Colado I read the Devils arithmetic in middle school too! good but chilling
Ooh I love the classics! I think Classics and Fantasy are my 2 fave genres...also just straight up non-fiction on whatever I am interested in at the moment. graphic novel suggestions : essex county (it didn't have many words but was surprisingly emotionally evocative and was a canada reads runner up a few years ago) and v for vendetta (different from the movie, but no less of a statement on society).
I loooved The Picture of Dorian Gray! I want to re-read it someday. Curious to see how you feel about The Giver, I wanted to read it for ages.
I'll definitely try and do that in the future!
The Giver is SOOOOOOOO amazing!
I don't read a lot of graphic novels too, but I really love The Walking Dead, and I do enjoy the TV show as well. Do you?
I enjoyed the first couple of seasons but then I stopped watching!
The Handmaids Tale is pretty good!
I've come across from your beauty channel, which I've been subscribed to for a couple of years now. It appears you and I have similar taste in books, yours being a bit wider taste than mine. Lol. Really enjoying this channel so far!
Graphic novel recommendation: The Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. From the time when he was still really, really good.
Hi Emily! What do you do with your books once you've read them? You have so many!
I love your recomendations! xx
thats a really good idea! usually i keep my short books for towards the end of the year so if I'm behind on my reading challenge i just binge read it XD
Good tactic :P
Emily read Anthem by Ayn Rand. Its short and it takes place in a dystopian society.Highly recommend! Im sure you are going to enjoy it!
can you start listing all the books you mentioned in the downbar? because
- sometimes i didn't hear the name but the plot sounds interesting so i have to rewind a bunch to get the name so i can add it to goodreads and sometimes i can't quite hear what you said or read the cover (but only sometimes!!!)
-i like to reread your videos after i read the books you mention because i like to compare your opinion that made me want to read the book vs how i liked the book and i don't know which videos have what until i watch them
I hope you read this!!!!
Jump on those Dark Tower books!!! I've read thousands of books and they are by far my most favorite books in the whole world.
Have you ever read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton?
Wayward Angel that's on my reading list
Makaylas beautiful life it's a great novel, one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy it! : )
It was one of the other books we had to read that year in HS! We watch the movie too so that help a little :P
One of my favorite books of all time.
Happy New Year Emily 🎉🎊🎈, have you read " I'll give you the sun" by Jandy Nelson😊.
Also, I just recently read Binti and I have already pre-ordered Home, which is coming out in February, I think. It is great!
New Years Eve drinking game: Take a shot every time Emily says "short" :P
Happy new year everyone! :)
you should try the graphic novels by Isabel Greenberg, the art is as beautiful as the stories.
If you want to read more graphic novels go with Watchmen and Persepolis. Love your channels!
Classics Illustrated #1: Great Expectations (Classics Illustrated Graphic Novels) try this
the trilogy of wool is Amazing 😍👌
I liked it :)
PS: Je ne sais pas pourquoi j'ai commenté en anglais, j'ai surement été prise dans la flot de la vidéo ;p
personally i did not like the giver. but thats bc there is a ton of cliffhangers and the 3 books after it had nothing to do with first book so none of the lose ends are tied up. if u read the book then watch the movie, you will probably find the movie disappointed. in my opinion it was well made but it was too different than the book. hope this helps :)
Recently someone recommended that I read "The Giver". After reading all of these comments, I guess I should.
