I’ve been able to run into buildings the couple of times I’ve forgotten to hold my net, but I usually prefer to just shake the trees while holding my net to guarantee not getting stung. It saves a lot of panic and scrambling.
All you have to do is hold a net, while you shake trees. Shake the tree and and quickly press a, when a wasp nest falls. You don’t have to aim or anything as your avatar, is programmed to face the nest and react.
I normally just catch them to sell whenever flick comes around. I normally average about 3,000 to 4,000 bells every time flick visits! Definitely the best way to avoid them. It’s literally a win - win
The Azumaya Gazebo Item protects you from wasps as well. Just run in, take a moment to breathe, then turn around and catch the wasps as they will be stuck trying to enter right in front of you. Bonus points for its natural look that blends in perfectly with any Forrest build.

If we are being realistically, many types of wasps have memory, and will wait till you get out the water or wait till you walk outside the building or just follow you inside the building, wasps are faster than humans walking. The first few seconds of being stung would be like hell, your entire body would shut down, and you wouldn’t fall onto the ground from the pain depending on your will power.
If you want to prepare for getting stung by wasps or your tools breaking while cutting trees: Step 1: Make sure you have another axe so you won't need to craft another one (recommended for people who still didn't unlock the stone axe/normal axe recipe) Step 2: craft/buy 3-15 medicines (recommended for unlucky people) Step 3: You're done! Good luck collecting wood!

i could've REALLY used this video when i was first playing new horizons. i learned soon enough that there were wasps in the game, so i would never shake/cut down trees out of fear. so i could never properly progress in the game, and grew less interested over time 🥲
When wasps would bother me on pool day they would wait at the top and I would just give them some good solid splashes from underneath the water. Once they got their wings wet they fucked right off
