It is great to see you, Billy, and Ryan in one video. We love those channel crossovers, because it speaks to a community of friends helping each other.
Something in my brain bank remembers water and vinegar. I do remember it was just regular old paper. Also used a large sponge that was used to wash cars instead of the small dish sized one. Use what you got though. Keep up the good work.
Hi Phil, I’ve had that vinyl wallpaper trouble. For my two cents; here ya go. You should make a block of wood and drive nails through it. A lot of nails. Then take that block and scratch the Hello out of the vinyl. Poking holes won’t let enough water to soak behind it. Scratching it with purposeful force, will. Then, soak it more than once. And I mean soak it. Not just a roller. That’s not enough. Then yes, let it set. If it’s still stuck, score it some more and soak it again. Now, it should come off. Then the white paper can be taken off with a wide putty knife . It’s messy but it works. Put plastic over the wood. You don’t need to drown the floor. Just the wall. Good luck. It’s messy but it works. ❤
The trouble with all these suggestions is that this is old wallpaper and has been there for decades. It doesn't come off easily, no matter what method you choose. I know Phil is going to persevere, but it will take longer than anyone would think it should.
It seems like Ryan had some similar wallpaper when he was doing an apartment at the convent, I believe he used some sort of chemical solution that finally did the best. Maybe ask him if you’d haven’t already.
I bought the stripper Sadie suggested for the penthouse apartment make sure to wash the walls after to remove the residue( I used a new big microfiber mop) the paint in France needs the walls to be clean and warm😊
Hi Phil, admire your perseverance, that perfect solution and or method will happen. Keep up the great work. Stay safe be positive and keep smiling. Judith 🦋
Equal parts water and vinegar, sponge it on the walls generously, let soak for 15 to 20 minutes, peel, repeat. If that doesn't work, you may want to try a commercial wallpaper stripper or a steam wallpaper stripper tool. Also, I would get a spray bottle so you can spray the solution under the wallpaper as you are peeling it.
Try using a spray bottle, rather than whatever it is that you were using. Let the water solution sit for awhile, it's messy, you might want to cover the floor.
The trouble with putting wallpaper on old plaster is that the plaster comes away from the wall. This is partially why I refuse to put up wallpaper in my house. I do not fancy replastering my walls after removing wallpaper! Good luck with the removal!
As you are applying the solution to the wall, I can hear your cloth or sponge rubbing on the texture of the vinyl surface, so I think you've got the process backward. Watering the vinyl first is a waste of time and energy, since it is waterproof. Scoring the vinyl first works against you, preventing you from pulling that layer off in large pieces or in one piece. Pull off the vinyl layer first, while it is dry, without scoring it. Then take a spray bottle and spray warmish water onto the paper backing till it turns evenly dark with water. You could add a wetting agent if needed (vinegar is good and as a bonus it helps kill mold). Let it sit a couple minutes, then use the widest metal scraper you have - the paper should come off fairly easily. Then you'll want to wash the wall with TSP to get rid of the excess paste.
That's definitely the usual way but for some reason not working that way. He tried to pull it of first but unfortunately it just breaks. Such a pain. I've removed many wallpapers in my life life with 4 renovations and just want to Muck in and help. Not sure if I'd get there in time all the way from Australia lololol. 😂😂😂.
Wait a bit longer and try to really let the solution soak through to the paper layer. If enough gets through the whole lot, paper and vinyl should just peel up with a scraper.
Hi Phil.. Best results with fabric softener is use with hot water or steamer saturate it after scouring. A 10 in taping stainless steel knife it's a dry wall smoothing tool that will get up underneath it. Hope this helps more❤❤❤❤
Got a job off the to do list and did favour for a good friend, good on you Phil! What does TH-cam say about removing this type of wallpaper? Somebody else has had the same problem for sure. 🇨🇦❤️
I seem to remember that you need to really rip the top layer of vinyl paper and then soak it with a big sponge. I think this was the reason I only use paint now. Far too messy. Fingers crossed for you Phil. 😁
My favorite job in the house, scratching wallpaper off. Yes I vollonteer at friends and family houses. I like the smell of steamy ,wet wallpaper. Yes I know,I am nuts....but That's me😁
Have you tried to use a heat gun to soften and loosen the vinyl layer. Don't hold it too long in one place. Use a putty knife to get an area started and keep heating in advance of where you are pulling it loose.
Seems like this is more of a mechanic's channel than a chateau construction project. There is always something wrong with every piece of equipment which has to be repaired before it can be used and it's always needed at the very last minute.
Unfortunate the wallpaper is vinyl, and it does not help that it is old. That's why it does not come off in a full strip. Best of luck to you in the whole process of removing it.
I found that the steamer works best by making the glue underneath soft again so the paper can peel off. It is the glue that is the problem. Once it is soft, the bottom layer will come off easier removing the top layer off, with it... Either way, it might be worth the expense to simply hire professionals to get this job done for you Phil. Especially since you have several rooms of this, Phil. Sometimes saving your time, (for other projects) is more valuable than saving the money....They are professionals for a reason.
Hello Phil, what happened about the wood pellet machine? You’re always slogging over a dodgy machine that you always seem able to fix lol. Lotta work all the time Phil… what will you do Christmas? I always get utube on to follow things I have to get working. Not easy sometimes being senior. Never mind, I usually get it done. Looking forward to the pellet machine. :)) enjoy rest of Sunday :)))
Please avoid the ladder as much as possible, especially when you’re alone. I know of cases where people have fallen off ladders and hurt themselves severely
Good friends are worth more than gold. I hate wall paper vinyl or what ever. Remember as a child helping my Mom to strip layers off of a house. Never liked it sense. I believe Rhyan used a steam device to remove wall paper.
I am some 15 years ahead of your age, my advise is to get your machinery sorted as you will need proper working equipment to get your jobs done. You are alone. Your physics will slowly go worse. Such a big place won't come easier in time. Billy has more money to spend to buy better equipment but he has no clue about the machinery technical state as he misses the technical inside (he is a better project manager though). Focus on what you really need to do to the manor and do it. Repairing equipment, buying doggy equipment or these second hand UK cars is a big distraction which you can do without. It costs your energy, time, money....
Love the way you support each other. True friendship!

What a good guy! A true gentleman returns borrowed equipment in better shape than he got it. 👏
Stripping wallpaper builds character. That’s the only thing it’s good for. Great job on the beefy mower
I personally prefer to think my character doesn't need that much building. That could be why I refuse to put wallpaper up anywhere in my house!!! Lol!
@@AbigailGerlach-zt1sh😂😅😊
Phil is pumping out videos!! Good for you.
Sadie and Stan will be happy you fixed Billy’s pesky mower/mulcher

Yesss large sponge is a definite. Plastic on the floor for water spillage. It's messy.
Lovely to see you with Billy and Ryan 😁

Perfect.
generous to the new homeowners. I bet between you and billy and steph there are spare bed frames and wardrobes to gift, and maybe a peacock or 2
I admire your energy and ideas. Best wishes with all this work. Makes me need a nap watching.
Thanks for another very enjoyable video, Phil! Hope you find that magic solution that allows you to remove the old wallpaper easily and quickly.

Hello from Canada nice to see you ❤
Well done one piece of machinery fixed. Oh Boy! removing wallpaper like that would drive me mad. I feel for you Phil 😬

Ask Sadie what she used to removed it in the convent. It did came off easely.
Hers was probably made of paper and it wasn't as old...

You got this, Phil!!!❤
Try a heat gun it may remove it by heating the adhesive underneath

Seems the paper is very dry. Yes it may need to soak longer and double soak.
Best of luck it will all be worth it in the long run.
Always love watching your channel!
OUCH! What a cut on the Mucky Mansion. True, but a cut all the same. I laughed out loud on this one Phil

After scoring it, I'd get gallons of vinegar and yard spray gun for application. You can't get away from chipping away at that backing paper.
Soak it a couple of times and leave it soaking for a while before stripping it off. Good luck 🤞 😊

That is one hell of a bad boy machine Phil.!
Got a job off the to do list and did favour for a good friend, good on you Phil! What does TH-cam say about removing this type of wallpaper? Somebody else has had the same problem for sure. 🇨🇦❤️
I just use washing up liquids and warm water, v effective. Do need to leave to soak while soaking another area- then scrape off.
V satisfying 😀
Hello, you have to use hot water with fabric softener and spread it with a large sponge, leave it to soak well, then it comes off quickly.
I seem to remember that you need to really rip the top layer of vinyl paper and then soak it with a big sponge. I think this was the reason I only use paint now. Far too messy. Fingers crossed for you Phil. 😁

Ask sadie what she used in the Covent apartment. That stuff worked well. X
Use a spray bottle to put solution in wall and start at the top

It’s a just keep at it kind of job !
Phil, use a long-handled paint roller for putting the solution on! Still might have to use a ladder but maybe not a severely tall one! Be careful!
My friend who wallpapered, removed with hot water and vinegar.
I would use a steamer
Happy 1st December to you too

The vinyl stops the liquid from reaching the glue.
@@kathyhembyhewett6109 Which is why he needs to roll the spiked wheel over the wall first
@ the scratch technique gets better results, in my experience. ❤️
I think if I was you I would be using a belt sander with a very tough grit!😅😅😅
I think Ryan also stripped this type of wallpaper off the apartment walls at the abandoned convent.
Exactly what does the scoring roller device accomplish? If it actually cuts the vinyl won't that prevent the vinyl from pulling off in strips?
Talk to Ryan and Sadie, they learn a lot about wallpapers do's, and don'ts in those apartments at Billy's.
Phil you really need to use a steam wallpaper stripper. You can often hire them but you might find it more cost effective to buy one.
✨🌞✨

Stripping wallpaper is a pain ❤
i've heard that wallpaper should be put on AFTER the walls have been painted with primer. sorry it's kinda late for this info.
Did you make sure the fabric softener water was very hot?
Try a heat gun to that wallpaper.
Can’t you use a sander?
Please avoid the ladder as much as possible, especially when you’re alone. I know of cases where people have fallen off ladders and hurt themselves severely
I remember stripping vinyl it is awful!
Didn't Ryan have to take off vinyl wallpaper? He used a steamer to strip the wallpaper, but I don't know if it was the same kind as you have.
Maybe hire Ryan to do it, he could use the money for his own renovation project...LOL (And the fellowship would be good for both of you)
Just get Ryan to do it😇🤣
Good friends are worth more than gold. I hate wall paper vinyl or what ever. Remember as a child helping my Mom to strip layers off of a house. Never liked it sense. I believe Rhyan used a steam device to remove wall paper.
Your not soaking enough. Use more water, u have to drench it.
Removing wallpaper is definitely the worst job ever. I recommend alcohol, for you, not the wall.
I don't think there's any easy way to take this paper of just have to persever and work at it .
Try thinking of wallpaper-stripping as exercise....no need for the gym yet!
