- HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE HALVALDI SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HALVALDI AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT. HATE. HATE.
This entire quest boiled down to figuring out how to play Halvaldi when your damage output is so high that the damageable parts can't survive your whole rotation, and you have to constantly move around.
Since there is no way to induce a physical down on him as a Gunner, the only down that is possible is the one that occurs when all 8 small bits are broken at the same time, which is roughly a 15 second window. Once you do that, you get about five seconds of weak point before he's up again, and to top it off, he yeets himself backwards away from the last bit that broke making any sort of prefire impossible.
The other piece of optimisation that didn't make it in was to induce a stagger right as the enrage attack begins, which requires breaking an even number of bits just as the animation starts; which requires mind boggling timing. By doing that, you skip the long enrage move that leaves no bits around for a long time, and the floating bits don't have enough health to last the whole attack, so you're forced to hit the body for 80% regular damage. Skipping this is worth it, but it also makes the special down harder as you've just broke one or two bits early and the timer is already ticking. I never managed to do both in the same run, so I picked the one that gave me more benefit.
At the beginning of the fight I opt to weaken every bit with around one full bullet rave each, and put the chain into his body. It's a damage loss but it must be done as I also can't hit the open weak spots. While the large bit is open, he cannot do his spinning attack (he can still charge which fucks the run entirely) which puts me at high risk of killing a small bit by accident, and also puts me behind schedule and puts me at risk of not having weakened all the bits in time.
There are like four different opposing factors all fighting each other in this fight, to the point that it really drove my ambition to run this quest further right into the fucking dirt. Halvaldi is not normally that bad of a fight, but when every bit breaks from a careless whisper of damage, and you start hitting 1s and 0s trying to wrestle with the targeting system, it quickly usurps Lizentos as the worst fight in the game. They truly could not have picked a worse enemy here.
As for the rest of the quest, I chose to go for a ringless run because I wanted to be at low health anyway to make being under half health easier, and as I ran it more I realised that more and more rings were avoidable, especially when it was figured out how to skip more and more of the pyramid section.
I had tried a bunch of PAs on the pyramid before, but I had used the wrong customization for Double Drive and wrote it off (the one that says 'increased distance' is not the one that actually increases the distance??). It just works out that Fighter sub is probably the most useful one here too as 5% extra damage when your crit damage is this high, for Halvaldi especially, just helps a lot.
Amazing play! I totally agree with you on the hatred for Halvadi. That boss suuuuuuucks.
Damn, nice Helv. I had no idea what to do during Halvaldi. I hated doing this records cause of that part only. 🤣
this is insanity. both the gear and the gameplay. what's the deal with those old boots?
They have knuckles attached that let me fly to and levitate up the pyramid near the end. The Cinquem potential is up to a 20% PP reduction based on unique augment names, 2% per name. They started as my field racing weapons.
@@Helvian interesting. thanks for the reply. i might have a play with this. I was also watching your "South Kvaris Dash Spring" video and you seem to be leaping forward with a PA but I can't figure out what it is?
It's either Partisan's Triumphant Shift or Cleaving Scythe followed by Assault Buster in the Hu skill tree.
@@Helvian cool thanks. so many little things in this game to play around with.
Helvaldian ~ 😊
