Why was ishi the only last native to be recognized? There wasnt any last one of a tribe anywheres else to be recognized? Ishi truly was last Native American living in wild left in America? Im surprised that ishi made it alive after making himself known to whites. How he must of felt seeing what happened to his people and finally to be last one left, and embraced by your enemies so he wouldnt starve to death. If that was the reason he came forward. Wonder why they made such a big deal out of the last indian they say to be alive when whites are the reason the Native Americans were killed off to begin with? Way too late for for amends . Guilty conscience maybe? I doubt it. Someone saw dollar signs and fame to be known worldwide more like it. How horrible to live that your only one left of your people. No ammount of apologies or gifts will ever make up for the wiping out Native American tribes. Damage can never be repaired or forgiven

Ishi was not a Paiute he was Yahi. He was the last of the Yahi tribe to be recognized, not the last Native American.
