@@armenmichaeli6704 he wanted to say that the consumerist world we lived in, made us so disconnected from the peace and quiet. We yearn for constant stimulation, which is why we're on the phone a lot. Even though the stimulation we get from social media is arguably very poor in quality, it's still something, and we're addicted to it. We're looking for the next latest and greatest, stretching ourselves financially to get something that's marginally better. The grandpa's point is that living in a post-consumerist society, isn't so bad because we now have time to sit and enjoy the quiet. Of course, Matthew McConaughey's character is somewhat of a rebuttal to that sentiment because he is someone who constantly yearns to push beyond the horizon.
why would anyone dislike this movie? it's my fav movie of all time, and even if they disliked, they're the type of people who would say the disaster film was better than this.
According to the United Nations, the 6 billion figure was reached on October 12, 1999 (celebrated as the Day of 6 Billion). So, Donald was a kid in the early 2000s. He is actually either a young millennial or an older Gen Z.
"Well, we used to look up in The sky and wonder at our place in The stars...now we just look down and wonder What's our place in The dirt"- Cooper, Interstellar
This quote is even more interesting when thinking that he (Nolan) is actually talking about the time when movies were such a huge thing, watching them on big screens compared to nowadays where we consume online content on our smartphone by looking down all the time.
We should be, we should have that spirit. Explorers and pioneers, but not conquerors and conquistadors. And you both have to be a good caretaker and a good explorer. Without curiosity and dilligence, your explorer cravings wane and you fall into cultural stagnation or lack of vision. Without caring for our world, the only world we have and only one tailored to us and Earth life (as Cooper himself points out in another scene), we're just irresponsibly running away from our own messes, and carrying or recreating them elsewhere. We need to be better than that. You need a balance of making sure the world is all right (or recovering to be all right or better again) and having the drive to go out and explore (and put our world into perspective within the universe, arguably reinforcing our need to value it more). The characters in this story don't have a chance to wait for a recovery, but unlike them, we still have a chance. We can make a difference. And it's our duty to be both good, kind caretakers and brave, careful explorers. That's the way I see it.

On the bad days I look up. On the good days I look up. Any chance I get to remind myself of how small we are and how my failures and successes are so unimaginably insignificant compared to the vastness and epicness of space.
This quote explains the social justice phenomenon in a nutshell. Before we tried to advance ourselves, now we’re worried about fighting for scraps and making sure everyone is just as miserable as the lowest among us.
Our destiny is in the stars. Everyone trying to tear down the work of those like Elon who once again have inspired us to look into the sky and dream, are exactly the people he is talking about here who wish to wallow in the dirt and pull you down into it with them.
You do know he’s not the only one who wants to do that right? At the same time he’s also the same type of person who would want to wish people to wallow in the dirt with himself too because he’s a narcissistic billionaire. if he had the chance he probably would not think to send humanity off the planet.
Lmao, Elon is a grifter. I'm all for space colonization but it's not really feasible in our current era, unless there is a political or economic incentive to it.
The irony is that I see Musk himself tearing down that aspiration. Musk is no Cooper. Instead, I see a lot of Dr. Mann in Musk, the ego, the arrogance, the harshness towards fellow humans... He's no Cooper. Whatever Cooper's flaws, Cooper's a humble guy from a humble background and he doesn't bail just because a situation distresses him or looks dangerous. He's also fairly quiet. He's everything that Musk isn't.
