Would you please kindly let me know what is the model/name of the Rhodia pad? The quick absorbance of the paper may have some advantage for certain purpose. Thank you.
I had two Montblancs and sent them both back. They failed to write from uncapping. When they did write, there was skipping. Most annoying when you are feeling creative and about to put pen to paper and NOTHING!! I'm afraid my Parker 25 beats them all!
I've just got the 146 a few days ago with 18K M nib, I like it very much. But I have to make a tool to take apart the piston for lubrication. This is the disadvantage of the MB pens. The nib of my pen does not flex very well if compare with my Omas and Visconti.
So how do you watch apples? Because I normally just sit one on my desk and stare at it, similar to how I would watch a video. But sometimes, when I'm feeling kooky, I'll place the apple in weird places and stare at it out of the corner of my eye.
Today I came across a new brand for me , Onoto. I'm very impress by the vintage model like ONOTO De La Rue MAMMOTH from early 20s...the size of the nib is huge. Did you have the opportunity to try one of the Onoto's Nibs? Thanks for your time and information. I am new on fountain pen and because of your channel I purchased few pens and I became very interested. I looking forward to see the new videos over the weekends ^_^
Hi Dr. Brown, i enjoy viewing all of your videos: they are informative, lucid and well executed. Maybe a few suggestions, feel free to ignore them: a shootout between the m800 and visconti opera elements, and in the writing samples, maybe you could include some mathematical symbols. Thanks once again for the great videos
Hey there! A month ago I dropped my MB 146 and the feed broke. Then I took it to the repair shop and they put on a new feed, which is a different model. I guess the old one was made of ebonite, and the new model is made of plastic. It's bigger and, as I could see on the video, it looks just like yours. Although the feed looks more fragile, it's surprisingly wetter! Don't you bend the tines of your feed when pushing it out of the nib? It seems to be a dangerous maneuver. :]
I have both...Frankly the piston in the 146 is a bit of a pain compared to the Pelikan. I prefer the regular Montblanc Meisterstuck Classique to the 146. I prefer the Pelikan M805 I have to everything else ever.
Quick question Stephen: I am browsing for an M1000 on ebay and I found a bunch of M1000s listed as "new" at ridiculously low prices. In box but previously open. Shipping from Albareto Italy. Like 150 US$ for one. Are they a scam?
Oh no, the choice is even tougher now. I was actually considering getting one of the two during college at some point (sort of a celebratory gift, after a P51 vac of course). The dilemma of fountain pen use indeed.
You prolly made your purchase. But my rule: I always go to the store and see which one of the two is the most pleasant writing experience. Pretty easy. For me it is the M800. So much easier to hold and more pleasant to write with.
Im really hesitating now between these two pens .. im a beginner of foutain pens , whats your recommand for me ? I need a pen what can write really well because i write 2 or 3 hours per day Please help me
I have both; both write very well and will last you forever if you are a bit careful. Go for the one that you like the most. It would be best being able to try them at a shop so you see which one you prefer.
Somebody had to do it! Of course, two great pens. I own the 146, unfortunately I don't have the Pelikan (yet). I too enjoy the 146 more than my 149 although the latter is an amazing pen with a spectacular nib too. I can't pick a winner between the M800 and the 146. They're two great pens and the ideal is having them both. If I had to choose only one I'd probably go with the MB though. Btw, Quink inks are not bad at all, They behave quite well with most of my pens :)
I've been meaning to tell you this for a while now: I think your shootout video music should be a segment from the theme song of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."
The G on your "dog" is not so nice. I think it's because it retraces back close to the initial d whereas on the word "lazy" the z and y only retrace half a letter. Awesome pen reviews, thank you muchly!
I honestly can´t imagine a better nib and pen than the montblanc 146, what a joy it is to write with it. I will be going to Japan next year, and will get there a Pelikan M800 there, if it is any cheaper than in the US
Hi Brown, it seems want a Pelikan M800/146 or some vintage flex pen for my collection.. later. In Indonesia we dont have an dealer for Pelikan so i need order online. But the problem was, since Christmas in Indonesia Montblanc authorized dealer have a massive discount, 40% discount all item and 50% selected (which make me buy a starwalker and 4 ink bottle). Im actually not planning for buying 146 now (maybe later ill find a preowned, a vintage one or i buy m800 first), but the discount was so tempting. What do think, should i go for it?
I've never heard that, and it doesn't seem very stubbish. Is the stubbishness you describe specific to any particular nib? I associate springy, not stubbish.
True story: I was watching Larry King interview Neil deGrasse Tyson and Neil said he likes to spend his money on pens..etc.. so Larry said " your'e a Montblonc fan" and Neil said "I actually prefer a Pelikan"...to which my mind was blown. I never thought twice about pens. So I youtubed it..and sure as shit THIS FUCKING VIDEO CAME UP!! I can't even believe a video for this exists...much less that it got over 10,000 FUCKING VIEWS...God Bless America...and God Bless youtube. I hope you pen nerds are enjoying this.
I prefer both of these to their comically oversized flagship counterparts
Maybe you just have girl sized hands. 😂
Nicely done, as ever. Not an easy choice, but I suspect that anyone in the market for either of these pens will want the other one too, eventually.
Great video.

I have both pens. Excellent ones! I think M800 has a better nib than 146 (sometimes 146 skips some symbols). A great review!

I guess for the wetness test, the Quink is partially responsible for the dry behaviour. Once again, two lovely pens in a nice video. Thank you :)

Thanks. Love your shootouts. Please do more.
Thank you!
The 146 has a higher price than 149 in HK

Exactly the video I need right now (to decide)! 🥰
So who won the shootout, would be nice if you had a decent conclusion at the end.
MBs skip on Rhodia because of the coating. They work perfectly on normal paper.

If it sounds too good to be true, it'd be very wary
Check what they end up selling for, price is meaningless till the last minute.

About picking a neutral ink...maybe if you had a Swiss ink, then it could be like Switzerland in this shootout? ::P
Haha, Swiss pen manufacturer Caran d'Ache does make inks.
the flies over the mountain, no doubt for me. "para gustos, plumas fuente" de todas maneras.
I learn something new about fountain pens from each one of your videos. :-)
Im really hesitating now between these two pens .. im a beginner of foutain pens , whats your recommand for me ? I need a pen what can write really well because i write 2 or 3 hours per day

i just assumed you wrote Hut and not Sl^t lol

Awsome cnannel! Agan and again! Really great work!

Really you are feeling lucky enough to put it in a M800 and 146... STAIN EVERYTHING!
With parker quink? O.o

Very good shotout. Which pen will you recommend to buy, m800, m1000 or sheaffer legacy? Thank you.
That depends on your hand size.
+sbrebrown but in other qualities which is better? I use many pens which are different in sizes and I don't care much about size.
Dang you look young.

sllluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut
Loooooooooooooool !!!
@@Strandbuggyschaukler "Slut" in swedish actually means "End". Was it an accident, swedish being a north-germanic language, pens being german ... ?
I love that S***T LoL...
Ooo look, Parker Quick Drying Ink ...dried quickly! ;o)
I've never heard that, and it doesn't seem very stubbish. Is the stubbishness you describe specific to any particular nib? I associate springy, not stubbish.
Great video! Keep making them. ;D
Súper. Very good.👍🏻
I was eating a raw potatoe while watching this video like an apple. It was a good potatoe!
wow so many books
Here's some pseudo-profanity with nice line variation

Thank you for this amazing insight in your personality! Your opinion truly matters to me.
sbrebrown bad part is I think you meant that statement genuinely...you poor geek.
No, the bad part is that you think that I made that statement genuinely. Look up 'irony' in a dictionary.
Nice pens. Prob should pick words that aren't obscenities for random words next time :-o
BAYSTATE BLUE!!!!
Pelikan M800 is suitable for real man, but Mont Blac looks more pleasant for women...
Hmmm, oddly enough I'm really saving to get myself an M800, despite being a woman.
Lisse A Ha!
