    This is going to sound insane, but I stand by it because I've done it. I put my camp kitchen boxes together while cooking exclusively from them in an actual kitchen during an extended house sitting situation while organizing for someone in hospital and skilled nursing long term. It's like having a controlled experiment cooking from a camp kitchen in a kitchen because you'll still be able to open a drawer when you realize you need some tool or whatever. Obviously don't use the propane stove in the house, but working day-to-day will give you a much better idea of what works in a way that will help you streamline better. This is how I discovered that my bin system sucked and the Kelty Camp Galley Deluxe bags worked better. It's also how I discoverd that my Rareform "Vienna" toiletries bag was actually the perfect hanging spice rack (I now own two more bought exclusively for that purpose). I know it sounds nuts, but if you try it it will actually be dead useful to help you figure out what works well and what needs tweaking insofar as organization.

      Doesn’t sound crazy at all! 👏🏼 There have been days at home - if I’m solo, where I’ll cook in the garage using my setup to try and perfect it further. I get what you’re saying here 💯. 😃👊🏼

    To be fair (waves from knowing how to cook with 17th to 19th c. methods) it was definitely possible to travel in London's time with the luxuries of a full kitchen. Some folks like Cowboy Kent Rollins (who has a great channel for cast iron cooking) still do. In London's case and context though, the folks in the Yukon who had the means and desire to travel with a full kitchen stayed in town. Folks like London were more interested in devoting cargo and pack weight to mining equipment than dutch ovens. And given how the ecosystem of the Yukon works, if you were a sane human you'd be devoting your time in the summer to gathering and drying resources to get you through the winter (Fat Bear Week bears have the right idea). Miners....were not that, and what London's story does reveal is how twisted it was that we accepted the terms of a market economy (survive by buying supplies) as logical or practical in a place where the only way to really survive was in terms of a land economy (gathering resources). All European settlers in North America brought this attitude, and it killed far more people than necessary because of it.🤷‍♀️ Even camping or overlanding, we are -- at best -- guests on the landscape.

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From the bottom of the floor in the rear of the Jeep to the bottom of the Vector Offroad Highland Shelf, it's 24 3/4 inches of clearance. From the top of the shelf to the top of the rear hatch opening, it's 10 inches. From the flat part of the shelf to the inside cieling, the height varies, because part of it has the roll bar over it which is right about 10 or so inches, and then to the ceiling of the Jeep it's maybe 14-15 inches from the flat part of the shelf. I hop[e this helps! Thank you for watching and for your comment! I really appreciate it! 😀

    Love the set up and thanks for the FR bins legs tip. I have 2 and would like to try that. I just wonder how easily the lids open. I’m still looking for a hinge/type latch solution to lift one side of lid and not have to set it on the ground. Not a fan of how loud the latches are at night closing up the bins - are the metal latches any quieter?
    Mostly, what people don’t show are the compact ways to nest the gear inside. For families we need more bowls. I am able to fit a 7-piece magma pot set with 6-8 SS bowls and plates inside FR wolf bin - as well as mini pot grippers, silicon hot pads, linens, etc… and 5 Joseph Joseph snap lid containers beside, a utensil roll, cups, foil, etc… in ONE bin.Nesting inside gear is a fine art rarely shown.

    • @TrailNewbie
      @TrailNewbie  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Thanks for the comment! Regarding the Frontrunner Wolf Pack boxes, the lids go on really easy/well as long as you leave just the right amount of gap so that they don't somehow end up overlapping. I detail this in my video called "What is it?" so that. you can make sure to not pinch the boxes too close together.
      I don't have the metal latches for the FR wolf pack boxes - I have the old plastic ones and indeed - they are LOUD!! I don't know of any solution for that.
      Man, sounds like you have nailed the nesting part!! I'd love to see a picture of how you did it if you happen to have instagram and can message me there? I haven't mastered the interior of my bins yet, but man I can carry a TON of good and useful gear with the 4 I travel with!
      Thanks again for the comment, I really appreciate it! And thanks for watching!

    Nice setup, just 2 short tips for improving your Boxio attachment. There are re-usable zipties on the market, great stuff, i'm using them alot. Prevents you from using each time new ones, plus you dont need to cut them off always.
    I would solve the Boxio attachment different. Since you already have those 2 bigger holes on your Frontrunner boxes, just fix 2 hooks on your Boxio that you can then hook and unhook directly on your Frontrunner boxes. best regards from Luxembourg, Chris

      That is a great idea!! Both ideas actually! I have a couple quick brackets that I bought, I’m going to try those here soon. Thank you for watching, and for giving me the ideas!! 👏🏼👏🏼

    Good video. I like your set up. Do they make the Boxio with an electric pump instead of a bulb pump? I too sleep in the back of my jeep. There are a lot more upgrades. I want to do before a rooftop tent.

      Great question! No, BOXIO does not make an electric pump sink. Just the hand pump for now. Thanks for watching and for the comment! I really appreciate it!🙌🏼🙏🏼👊🏼😃

    Loved this video! Our styles and setups are similar. I have a Bronco but like you I sleep in it, run the roof slick, and try to be very minimal but with quality gear.
    Where you have the Dometic faucet is brilliant. That Boxio looks pretty cool too.

    I'm glad we're a part of a community that's ready to help each other out and teach other. I didn't know about not laying the propane tank on its side either till *after* I got a tank, and I'm sure there are those who didn't know that either before watching this video. No matter how "common sense" things may be, we need to remember to be kind to one another and keep patiently educating, just as you do with your videos. 👍
