What you should do as a new (or returning songwriter). Don't spend all your time watching videos about songwriting. Go write your song. Also, do as I say, not as I do.
I just want to say something here. If you are advanced in music, but just have never used a DAW program, maybe it's worth it to buy an expensive program. If you are a beginner or intermediate, just use one of the many available free programs. You do not have to be advanced in music to be a songwriter. I am not advanced and I am doing it.
Networking is where I have definitely come up short. Lack of confidence to put myself out there, to be able to ask someone to co-write , I think is the reason.
I would tell you to learn structure in songwriting lyrics. Study phrasing . I’ll be honest even if you are an amazing musician the cards are stacked against you. That being said I know a 2 time songwriter of the year that doesn’t play an instrument. But he writes with people who do. Find co-writers that supplement what you do. Buildinggreatsongs.com

@@GreatSongs thank ya for the reply. I enjoy these videos and am learning. I know this is a tough business, I understand that. I’m very determined though to get my lyrics on the radio. It’s not about money, fame, or anything else but just knowing I accidentally accomplished this. Stupid as it sounds, I could die a happy guy if something I wrote can touch someone in some kinda way. Second to that is my inability to create modern melodies. I think my lyrics craft is pretty good. I have 600+.
