My wife, in her first season last year, really enjoyed lapping Rip's Ride while I went up Imperial for a top to bottom run. It does only serve beginners, but that's some really great learning terrain for someone feeling intimidated by their first time in big mountains, I think it deserves more credit as a very worthy upgrade.
Big Sky, too, has a HS 8 seater like Sun River just got. Pretty sweet lift as we ski here a lot but almost every chair is missing a person or two. The average skier doesn’t know what to do with 8 seats to fill. It takes resort emplyees to direct lift lines and singles lines in concert to fill chairs dependably. Still, this is amazing technology for lift service. HS Sixpacks are the magic sauce for new lifts!
The Jordan 8 lift at Sunday River is nice, but it utterly destroyed the double black Caramba run right underneath it. It used to be my favorite trail there. Now it's totally unremarkable
Brundage Mountain in Idaho just upgraded their Cenennial Lift from a slow triple to a high speed quad. Cut the ride time in half from 14 minutes to 7 minutes.
This video was really fun to watch. Love how a lot of my favorite resorts are included. Also it might be fun to see which resorts have the best apres ski or village.

As someone who skis mainly the Utah resorts including Deer Valley, I was extremely perplexed why they decided to install Burns in such a weird location from the top of Snowflake to just above St Regis. I thought they’d run it from Snow Park to Little Baldy Peak for direct access to Jordanelle/Mountaineer runs. I honestly feel Deer Valley really blew it with the money spent on such a high-end Doppelmayr High-Speed quad with auto-locking bars, skippy chairs, etc; all that was only about less than 1,500 feet long and less than 2 minutes to ride. If they’d upgraded Snowflake to a high-speed quad, it would’ve made the experience a bit improved, but I felt like Deer Valley is really still in questioning as in why they decided to install Burns in the weirdest and quirkiest way possible
Love this video and the other videos you make, very influential among my friends when we debate east coast mountains (most notably Okemo and Killington). I would love to see Vail Resorts invest in new clocktower lifts as a part of the lodge rebuild. I thought of an idea for a direct, three stage, 10 person base to summit gondola that would loosely follow the current alignments of the Sachem and Glades Peak lifts. This could be paired with a new detachable quad where A quad currently sits and could even extend to the Blue lot making it and other overflow lots more accessible and appealing. Just an idea though.
Glad to see that you didnt get stuck on the whitefish lift. If you got stuck like most people did, it wouldnt be ranked 8. In reality, very few people actually ride that lift due to reliability issues

Me personally having been to Mount Snow since the upgrades, I think that the new quad is very helpfull but the 6-pack might not be for a more advanced skier or rider. Altho, others might share different opinions because I normally start at Carinthia and the new quad may not be as usefull for someone starting at the main base.
I would argue in favor of a great decision in the case of Deer Valley and Breckenridge, where a Ski School specific upgrade will separate out guests from ski school clients. Ski school is a profit center, and maximizing that specific experience for the client also benefits the guest experience.
That’s fair in the case of Breckenridge, but for Deer Valley, the Burns trail being both narrow and part of a major path down from Little Baldy Peak doesn’t really work for “separation”
The 7 brothers express chairlift at Loon does not run everyday during the week. It makes a difference for park riders as well as giving beginners a high speed chairlift to use. It is the old Kanc express chairlift. Loon is a mad house and could use upgrading the 4 person gondola with a 8 person gondola for a better guests experience.
Fully agreed! When it’s open and not too cold, you could argue the 7 Brothers is actually more desirable because the gondola is so cramped inside. For whatever reason, the waits for the 7 Brothers lift were never horrible last season - but that lack of demand may be why they never ran it consistently on weekdays
The issue with upgrading the gondola at Loon is the limited space on the summit for all those people. Also, the 7 brothers quad isn't new, but the old Kanc quad moved from the west basin after it got replaced by the 8pack

I think the Palisades gondola should have been rated much worse. For all the money they spent they could have upgraded some of the old (like 1970's) and slow chairs and made an actual positive impact on the skier experience.
Im confused... This video was made a month ago... The new gondola at Steamboat goes directly to the top now and did a month ago. Plus its the fastest in North America at the present moment
Does Oma’s Meadow at Sugar Mountain not count? It’s a new high-speed quad that replaced a slow double chair, and allows for faster laps away from the main Summit chair which gets crowded at times. I skied Sugar for two days last season, and I took at least 16 laps on it; there were hardly any lines at that lift.
We haven’t moved into covering NC yet, but might be able to hit it this season! Also, this lift is new for 2023-24, while this video was an overview for 2022-23 season.
I'm thinking the content for the video was shot last year as it doesn't include the 5-chair upgrade at Breck or Bergman Bowl 6-pack at Keystone - granted, Bergman isn't open yet this season, so it might be hard to tell the impact just yet.

Uhhhh, what about loon opening an entirely new section of the mountain giving great beginner and intermediate terrain, that also has a new lift giving access straight to the mountain from the dirt lot… how was that not even mentioned, arguably a top 3 upgrade this year, the western bias is real on here

People said the same things when 6 packs came out in the 90s, but over time, skiers learn how to fill the seats and que for them properly

I think Alta’s sunnyside 6 should be higher, the sunnyside triple had awful lines and albion seldom spun.
Agreed the Sunnyside upgrade had a pretty substantial impact, it’s just that the competition was so intense this year!
