    I can't help but notice how clean and orderly your house is in spite of having several birds who generate a lot of waste and destruction KUDOS on your level of energy I'm tired just watching. (And old)

    Touché is so reserved for a ringneck. My two are always getting into stuff, and my third one would be as well if she wasn’t blind

    When I introduced my two caiques to each other, Pablo was about 4 years old and Keeley was not quite 1. He went straight to her and started feeding and preening her. They were snuggled up within minutes. When he went back in his cage for the night, she was supposed to sleep in her own cage, but neither of them would have that. It turned into a scream-fest. We ended up letting her sleep in his cage despite that absolutely not being our plan. Obviously, it was theirs. She plopped her butt on his face and he just looked so happy that she was back with him. They pretty much bonded immediately and have been a bonded pair for 6 years now. (No, we don’t breed them.)

      @shaggyisamofo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      id recommend being careful with the species you adopt and were you live my uncle has a galah and there like little humans and there spirit and personality are huge but with that
      a lot of work and effort to keep them in a good happy mood, id say galahs are typically more reserved and chill then big species of cockatoo though. but ye im not saying your bird should always be in a good mood like definitly not but its just harder to watch and take care of a cockatoo than smaller species of birds, and as an australian there EXTREMELY LOUD!

    I was gifted a young cockatiel while I still lived at home...my mom took her cage outside...then put her ON TOP of the cage. She went inside for a quick sec and when she came back there was no sign or clue anywhere of my bird!

    Oh my lanta these two are SO cute!! 😭💚😭 I have three teils, and they are roomed with finches-- the only 'interaction' is when the bois (teils) sit or hang out on the finch cages/ homes. At first, the teils flying around would spook the finches, but now they've not only gotten used to it, but sometimes sing and beep at them (teils)! One of the teils even mimics the little beeps and singing

      I live in the Australian "Outback" ( The Riverina of NSW) and yes there are thousands of galahs flying or more likely strolling around and hanging upside down , playfully screeching and singing in our towns and localities but I've never ever seen nor heard of anyone hitting or harming them ! That would be Un-Australian , a big social No No. There is a giant statue of a Galah in Kimba , South Australia , on Highway One, exact mid point between Sydney and Perth , about 5,500km. Check it out next time you're Down Under !

    I rescued an African Ringneck off of Craigslist about 3 years ago. he had been kept in a small rectangular cage 15” L x 8” H x 8” w cage so small his tail grew in a 45 degree angle! I named him Prince because he’s so handsome! I love him so much! But he flies away every time I try to get near him. I’ve never been able to get him to take food from my hand, I’ve only been able to hold him when I have reached into the cage and picked him up! He will not step up on my finger , When I get to close he flips out and flys away , I o leave the cage open 24/7 in my bedroom where I spend most of my time, in hopes that he would start to warm up to me and come around on his own terms, I also have a 2 year old Green cheek Conure and he flys to me wherever I am . Always wants to be near me . I’ve Taught him to talk, he takes food from my hand , flies to me on when I Signal him. I have taught him many tricks. I share my food with him. He Cuddles my face and loves to be with me! I was Hoping that Prince ( my African ringneck ) would see that I am a good human by the interaction that I have with my other bird, but I cannot get prince to interact with me! I love him so much and I just want him to be comfortable and happy!! He is such a beautifully sweet bird! I just want to be able to interact with him , I’ve tried to earn his trust, I’ve watched you with trust training and tried yours Technique where you get as close as possible and stop before the bird flies away. but I have no way to reward him with treats because he wont take any food from my hand, Is there any advice you can share with me, I’ve tried everything I don’t know what else to do!! Please please please help!!

    • @ghosttraintittiebeaan4879
      @ghosttraintittiebeaan4879 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      u gotta figure out what treats it views as the highest reward, and establish enough of a bond where it will tolerate your presence. With those two things you should be able to do bird tricks's philosophy.
      Birds are like humans, something i did with a bird wouldn't necessarily work for your bird, so it's up to you to figure out what it's specific needs, wants, and quirks are. Asses those, and embrace a pace that works for you two.
      Also, it sounds like you already are; but make sure you are housing the birds separately and training them separately for the most part. If it become's codependent on your other bird progress may be even harder to achieve.
      you could consider leaving the treat and it's feet as a reward but that may make hand-feeding harder in the long run, so it's not a perfect or permanent solution at all. You still need to work on handfeeding.

    • @sylphsarigo1996
      @sylphsarigo1996 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My friend with who rescued a breeding pair of indian ringnecks trained them by putting the cage next to his computer desk and placed a treat such that one of the ringnecks would have to muster up enough courage to get a little closer to him then normal. Inch it closer with each success or further back with each failure. It took a long time, but eventually they were taking treats from his hands and then stepping up to get the treats! Experimenting with different treats to find your birds favorite helps too.
      I wish you luck! I've seen so many untame and poorly cared for Indian and African ringnecks on Craigslist, it really breaks my heart.

    • @ADKEMT
      @ADKEMT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would do a few things. 1) passive desensitization - every few days move the cage an inch closer to somewhere you spend the majority of your time. If the bird is super anxious go slow, super slow. Ideally the bird doesn’t even realize that they are close to you. Be close without being focused on the bird. It’s more intimidating to be 5 feet away and looking directly at the bird than to be 4 feet away and just walking past. 2) active training - approach with treat to edge of comfort zone. Hold treat for a second, put down treat, retreat. After a couple iterations try to either move a little closer, hold a little longer or not retreat quite as far. Only change one variable at a time. 3) motivation - Train when the bird is motivated. Treat value changes throughout the day. A full bird is not food motivated. Train before meals and don’t give away the good stuff for free. That is to say, don’t put the high value motivators in the food; save it for training sessions. Allow the bird to “fail”. “Failure” is actually permission based training. It’s allowing the bird to say “no thanks” which is ok but doesn’t get rewarded. After a “failure” evaluate level of motivation and what that motivation needs to overcome. After evaluating end the session on a success by upping reward and decreasing barriers to success. 4) trust - Do not push yourself on the bird. Trust takes hours to build and an instant to break. 5) Capture and reward good behavior. Not all training is formal. If you catch the bird being calm when you would have expected them to be nervous give a reward. 6) encourage foraging - place a foraging toy in the cage with some treats in it and then walk away. Next time move the toy closer to the entrance of the cage. Work your way out of the cage. Don’t forget to walk away, this is environmental desensitization not a human interaction training session. This helps build confidence. A more confident bird will be more willing to try new things.

      What is his/her diet consist of ?

    • @boowhome95
      @boowhome95 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a mixture of seed and berry with safflower and nuts, I get fresh fruit and vegetables and and chop some up daily. I started desensitization in the beginning probably two years ago. now the birdcage is in my room with me approximately 2 feet from my bed on my dresser where I am always getting into my dresser for clothing, the birdcage is open so they can come and go as they please across the room to the perch. I have skipped a feeding to make sure that he is hungry and put the food about 2 feet from me on my bed where I’m sitting . He will fly down to the food on my bed and he will get close to me , if he has to! But he refuses to take any thing from my hand ..his favorite food is apples , I’ve tried to give him apples from my hand he will not take them ..if I try to offer him anything he will fly away in over my head ..I can walk right up next to him and he won’t fly away, if he doesn’t think I’m going to bother him. but if he thinks that I might want to interact with him ,he will fly away! I walk up next to him all the time when he’s on the perch , and he won’t move because I’m not directing attention to him , Im busy or getting up to go to the bathroom or the kitchen. and it does not bother him but if I try to interact he will fly away. He is totally used to me and comfortable with me being around.

    Although I don't have a bird and neither do I plan on getting one, I love to watch your videos! Especially as I am going through a very tough time at the moment, seeing your videos with your beautiful and heart warming birds gives me some time to forget about my troubles.
    May I ask how many birds do you guys own?

      She lists them all in the description box - it’s quite a flock! Hope things get better for you soon; hang in there!

    I am NOT kissing that pink weirdo! - Touché
    Ugh, as if you green twerp! - Bondi
    Actually they were good with each other for a first meeting. When Bondi nodded her head yes after you asked about dinner I laughed out loud, adorable.

    I miss having a bird. I’ve always had birds and dogs, but I haven’t had either for several years. then I decided I would get a dog again and in the back of my mind I thought I’d get a bird once she’s old enough and completely trained. Well that’s not going to happen now because she is very prey oriented, I never had a dog that was prey driven before, but I don’t think she would do well with a bird now, lol.

    When I introduced my baby male GCC with my blue female budgie they did the same sort of thing but that very day they were preening eachother, very uncommon for that to happen.

    Is galah cockatoo a quiet species compared with other large species of cockatoos? Large cockatoos, such as umbrella and moluccan cockatoos, like screaming a lot.

    My green cheek conure Niko is a big bully! he will go after EVERYTHING if its a dog, cat, bird ANYTHING lol but he has a little sidekick lol he's a peach faced lovebird named Peep and they cuddle and play with toys and hangout all day together. Niko would start to bully Peep when I first brought Peep home, but we got threw it by training them together. I think Niko realized he was still getting most of the attention from me and he just accepted Peep after about 3 days. But he hates everyone else no matter what i try lol

    I want to introduce a pair of love birds with a black capped conure. Do you have any ideas how I would go about doing that?
