After two decades in the grip of the Khmer Rouge, Cambodia is
trying to come to terms with life after Pol Pot. Again the
catalyst for change has been education. With over half
Cambodia's households being headed by women, their practical
need to be educated is changing this once patriarchal society. A
programme of remedial literacy classes has been launched by the
Cambodian Women's Development Association and as a result
daughters attend classes along side their brothers. But the
hope is that more will be learnt from the lessons of history
and Cambodia can give its lost generation a new legacy.

It is great that the Vietnamese brought peace and stability to the Cambodian people where the people could rebuild their life and their country
BULLSHIT!! Communist North Vietnam CREATED the Khmer Rouge monster! They invaded Eastern Cambodia and setup bases for the Khmer Rouge to attack the rest of Cambodia. Without the North Vietnamese Invasion Pol Pot and his Communists would have never conquered that country. In 1975 the Communists took over South Vietnam and Cambodia at the same time and lost shortly thereafter. They were all celebrating their joint communist victories together. Only later when the Cambodian communists turned on the Vietnamese communists over a territorial dispute did a war begin in which Vietnam invaded Cambodia. They didn't liberate Cambodia, they just replaced one murderous Communist regime with a puppet Communist regime of their own.

@@tedmccarron no doubt the Vietnamese did back the kmer Rouge and Pol Pot before 1975 however from 1975 onwards there was obviously a stark difference between both the Vietnamese communist government and the one in Cambodia run by Pol Pot. The Vietnamese government yes was a Marxist Leninist regime however they didn't set out to kill off their population which is what Pol Pot set out too do to the people of Cambodia. Yes the Vietnamese armies invasion of Cambodia in 1979 was likely over a territorial dispute but one good thing came out the Vietnamese invasion of Cambodia in 1979 the overthrow of the monster Pol Pot and his genocidal regime who knows how long Pol Pot would have clung too power if the Vietnamese army hadn't invaded that invasion by the Vietnamese army probably saved lives after all it cut short Pol Pots whole monstrous operation.
@@christophera556 I keep hearing that narrative from the left that Vietnam "liberated" Cambodia (actually they replaced it with another brutal Stalinist government but one that didn't kill quite as many people) but if it wasn't for the Communist Vietnamese Pol Pot would not have been there to begin with. It's like somebody creating a huge mess and then much later cleaning it up and then having other people say how wonderful they were for cleaning up the mess. Yes, but they created the mess in the first place! Without communist Vietnam Pol Pot would have never been in power to begin with and there would have been any need to liberate Cambodia from him.

My grandfather, He saved my mothers family, crossing the river near the border, the river had crocodiles in it, My grandfather carried all my aunts and uncles which were all kids and babys, and still made it to Thailand, after that they were taken to the Us, and my mother's family didn't know english so they learned english in Washington state, Seattle, and so she made a successful amount of money to buy a house and well the end 😭😭😢😞 and a goodbye tk my grandmother who also made it through to America but died in 2018 last year

This is a good, short and informative video about the horrors of the Khmer Rouge.
But there is at least one inaccuracy. The school used to torture and kill people (S-21) is actually IN Phnom Penh (Toul Sleng) and not 30 kms outside the city, as broadcast.

# Essentially, it’s the evil scheming and direction for the Pol-Pot clique by China’s Expansionist Rulers (notably Deng XiaoPing and Mao ZeDong) to wipe out the whole Cambodian people, so as to make Cambodia ready for Chinese advisers, troops and colonizers to flood in, and thus turn Cambodia into another Xin-Jiang (East Turkestan) but without any Cambodian left. According to DengXiaoPing-MaoZeDong-ChinaRulers’ calculations, this would happen once the DengXiaoPing-MaoZeDong-ChinaRulers-directing-PolPot-excecuting genocide had wiped Cambodia clean of the Cambodian people, and the ChinaRulers-instigating-PolPot-excecuting war with Vietnam had depleted Pol Pot’s troops to the point he’d have to call out publicly to China’s Rulers for sending troops (and advisers, workers, etc.) in for help to keep his regime alive.

I have actually made this theory up.
When Pol Pot ruled over Cambodia there was still Khmer Republic commanders fighting. My dad and Uncle left Thailand to fight the Vietnamese. My dad joined the Son Sann Army. The khmer republic and the khmer rouge actually made peace and decided to fight the Vietnamese. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, United Kingdom, and the United States supported Khmer Republic and the Khmer Rouge. I think what would have happen was that Cambodia will be split in half. The west Khmer Rouge, the east Khmer Republic.
