    not inly I liked the forging part, but also got to love the half time brake. I liked that you teached that the 🍃 are recycled.

    Really fantastic work. Both building the channel and the tongs.
    I know this is old, but slowly working my way through blacksmithing videos.
    For the leaves, you can put them in a 55 gal garbage can, and use a string line trimmer ar the bottom of the can. It chops up the leaves and makes smaller pieces that blow around less, and break down faster.

    The offset would also let you pick up the work easier when it's lying on a flat surface.

      Lots of reasons, if you want a firm grip on the blade, but the tang has already been drawn out for instance. You can still grip the blade without the tang interfering.

      rysho1. Good thinking! Here they grow like trees and kill everything beneath them but it is not as cold here. Frost is a good point. 😀

      Thanks. Yes, it's for some extra winter protection. At least in my mind it can make some difference, although it's the early spring/late winter sun that is the most dangerous player in the game...

      Yes, Rhododendrons have quite shallow roots and these are young plants still so they like some extra insulation during winter...not sure you need to do it, but it's also a nice way of reusing the leaves for something good.

      I've been a knifemaker for over 40 years and I think that show "Forged in Fire" is the biggest joke I've ever seen. Those people that come on that show are supposed to be experienced "Blade Smiths"? The blades they come up with are ridiculous. I wouldn't dare sell anything that they make. Terrible, terrible amateurs.

      No, I bought it used. The new Kohlswas are not very good it seems. They are not heat treated the right way. BTW Kohlswa went out of business a few months ago... sad.

    Another fantastic job. 12:40 I am amazed that mushrooming over the pivot pin doesn't lock the two jars together with friction. What prevents them from being locked after mushrooming each side of the pin?

      It does initially lock them tight, but heating the assembly up and moving the jaws will loosen it up!
