Chris, good review! I have used the Moab for a number of years and keep buying them. Historically I have done about 1500 miles per year and I think each pair have lasted about 1 year. I do replace my boots quite often so I keep old pairs for special occasions like day hikes requiring trail crampons. Hope you like them as much as I do.

I have been wearing the Moab 2 now for about a year and agree they are the real deal. They are comfortable, flexible and durable. And as boots go fairly light weight. I have never had a blister wearing them. I have a wide foot and normally wear a 10.5. The size 11 wide fits perfectly when wearing thick socks, My toes have plenty of room.

I just bought my husband this exact same pair. He had a pair of Merrell Moabs that he wore all last winter and loved them so much, so I just got him another pair in this same color for this upcoming fall and winter. His others from last winter are still in great shape, but Discount Shoe Warehouse was having a sale and I had like $30 in coupons plus free 3-4-day shipping, so I got an amazing deal. Plus, I know he'll love this color.

Late Chime in here: I got the Merrill Alverstone Low that cost about $10 more than the Moab's and I have been absolutely thrilled with them. I have high arches and I haven't found anything else than fits my foot and provides the comfort these do. I live in Tennessee where we grow rocks and they have been very durable, very comfortable, and I've been very satisfied with them overall.

I use the low moabs as my primary non work shoes, they have great stability and seem to last forever. Highly recommend for seniors. I recently tried some Sk*****s for $70. Never again, those are just my kicking around the house/shopping shoes now, had to go buy new moabs for $100. worth every cent. I walk 3 miles on grass and dirt most mornings and they are The Bomb !

Excellent choice, very comfortable no breaking period. Love them so much I have three pairs. Also very light and when you go hiking you don't want heavy boots to walk around with, you will have exhausted legs by the end of the day. And your 80's boot Colorado that looked like the Danners were way too heavy and so hard to breakin brings back painful memory...lol

I'm on my third pair. All three were comfortable right from the get go and I love them. I bought the last two pairs on Amazon for $86 and $88 (mid). One thing to watch out for is inconsistency in size. All three pairs I purchased are size 11. The first two pairs were the same size but the last pair is 1/4 to 3/8" shorter, but still works fine if I tighten It mid shoe. It might be worth the trip to the store and the extra $22 to insure the proper fit. All in all this is a good boot for a fair price.

Have had several pairs of both the mid and low cut. Prefer the mid. My only bitch is that the strings are way too long and the bigger is that they come untied constantly. When I purchase a new pair I immediately replace the strings with a waxed pair that are shorter so I can tie a single knot and they won't come untied. I seem to wear out the inside ....not so much the outside. Love the boot, though. Thanks Chris......do you still use your Back Country One tent???

If you walk through water that goes over your shoes in waterproof shoes your shoes will fill with water and you won’t be able to dry them out until you take them off. Jungle rot. So if you’re hiking in warm weather and you’re going to be walking through deeper water, vented shoes are great because they dry out quickly.

    • @jerseyltd

My 2 year old Boots had a chunk of the sole break off while hiking. To bad I can't upload a picture here to show. I compared these boots to an older pair and it looks like Merrell is making the soles different than they used to. IMO Great boot if you do most of your hiking on a side walk or in a city. Lets see some reviews where someone uses these on mountains trails for a few months not from a desk.

Hi Chris. My BIG question or worry is are they rattlesnake proof? I have a pair of Timberland I have used for a couple of years that are comfortable. I live in Tucson and do a lot of desert hiking. The rocks are hard on any boot so any kind I purchase only last a couple years. The most comfortable were Columbia brand, but the quality is very poor. I average 4 hour hikes 7.5 is the most I’ll do in the desert. I usually hike 5 days a week. Any suggestions on a boot with a wide width that is good for desert hiking and some climbing? Those look very comfortable. I had a question for you the other day and noticed Facebook is the only way to contact you? I only watch TH-cam via Roku on the TV, but understand I have to go to the PC to visit pages and links. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Your giving your old Hi-Tec boots to the thrift store, is that the HI-Tec boots you held up? A hobo wouldn't wear those!

Don’t be fooled by the pretty looks. They’re garbage compared to my old Brasher boots.
My feet get wet after a heavy dew, let alone puddles or mud.
They’re not even that comfortable after a day wearing them.
    Garbage! Avoid. Go Brasher 💪

I'm open to the Solomons... Merrills are super comfortable/ sturdy so far.

Slippy, laces come undone... toe box smashes your feet on a down hill.. not very waterproof resistant.. plus points looks good and the heel is comfortable. Front is lacking.
