I worked for him for 15 years and at HellsGate for 2. He has a theater degree from Southern Illinois University. He also does storefront theater in Chicago, some commercials here and there, and the occasional indie movie. Every season, no matter how long you've worked there, everybody has to audition, and everybody has to go through movement training and character creation workshops. So yes, you're more than correct lol

The guy clearly knows how to sell his business and he really likes his stuff. Telling stories is his greatest talent. It's not easy to find that dedication and joy. Good stuff.

Lucky!!! I'm in Michigan, itself a whole state of hundreds of haunted attractions and forests and woods and parks and homes etc. But this place is worth the trip to see. I would love the walkthrough like this though, I want to see the incredible detail of the house and grounds. I want to drool over it all.

I live in Chicago and this is the ONLY haunted house my husband and I go to since they opened...it's definitely worth it! I love seeing this different view of it with the lights on during the day.. it's still scary...so imagine when the lights are off! so far, it's been the only one to manage to creep us out every year.
@@asmrshayy9249 if you walk straight through without stopping to look or wander rooms, I’d say about 20-30 minutes. But everything is so intricately done, that some of the rooms, if you’re not too scared and u want to really check it out and not run through and you take your time, it can be up to 45-55 minutes or so to go through. I’m not a “head down and run through” person. My friends are and those are some of the fastest times I have spent in a “haunted house” … 😂
The way the director creates the rooms and the moods harkens me back to working on stage crew in the college theater. There are verbal, non verbal, sensory changes that affect the psyche and he understands how to manipulate those different aspects, that's a great way to do a haunted house!
I literally come to this video to gain inspiration during the last weeks of a build. I have never met John before, but I can charge my haunt battery listening to him talk about this haunt.

Hell's Gate might have the most elaborate doll section I've ever seen in a haunt. I saw a video of it with the actors and it's insane. The actors really set the mood for the room and amped it way up. Hell's Gate has officially made it onto my haunt bucket list. Absolutely gorgeous.
This guy knows what he is doing, I love the way he uses misdirection in order to get the space to set up the working elements. Thus where one is not focused on is where the next thing is being prepared.
This video is amazing. Hells Gate is hands down the best haunted house ive ever been to, and the most unique and original concept. No other haunt do you ride a bus to, then go through a cemetary, just to get to the ACTUAL haunted house. And the owners enthusiasm about the whole thing is just so awesome to see, fantastic video guys!

This is a FANTASTIC haunted house/attraction everyone should visit! A staple of mine every season (and never gets old)! To start the experience getting in a school bus that takes you to the attraction down that creepy road adds a little something something to it. Also love to hear about the new "key" twist this year.
Being EXTREMELY claustrophobic, these haunted house walk thrus with you are as close as I can get. I really enjoy the way you always present them, as many that are done are nowhere near as good as yours. Once again, thank you for the experience!

This owner is great and whimsical, and he is like a child explaining his creation, the Hells Gate Haunted House. He is Dr. Frankenstein himself. I loved the size of the house, trap doors, slide, all the animatronics, and props--very unique, creative, and very scary! Thank you for the tour of the place!😇❤
I just went here over Halloween weekend and loved it! My only complaints were that you hardly see any of these beautiful props when its pitch black or when the strobe lights blink for an awfully long time. Behind the scene videos like these really make you appreciate the dedication, like watching a movie for the second time you'll be looking out for different elements.

What a great place, and also a great video! Hearing the owner talk and expressing his excitement about HellsGate was as much fun as seeing the artistry behind the attraction. Speaking of his desire to give his actors and artists the agency to expand upon the story and the design was inspiring and makes me want to visit even more.

I didn't see it) my daughter who's going into the US Army in September said she wanted to have a Halloween party before she goes but she couldn't because it wouldn't be Halloween. Of course I told her it didn't matter we could still have a Halloween party. Obviously this would be a lot better lol so kinda looking around for a haunt that's open year round and don't have to take a week off work right before I have to take a week when she ships off. Something that I believe is always overlooked in haunted houses are smells. Different aromas trigger different emotions and can be very effective. This was great. Good Job.

What a great place, and also a great video! Hearing the owner talk and expressing his excitement about HellsGate was as much fun as seeing the artistry behind the attraction. Speaking of his desire to give his actors and artists the agency to expand upon the story and the design was inspiring and makes me want to visit even more.
I’ve been a fan of your channel for a while. I have to say this video is so far above and beyond! Your channel has taken a giant leap forward. Well produced and though it’s all of 47 minutes long it seemed like 5 minutes. Hells Gate Is now on my bucket list. Amazing content we need more videos like this one!

This one was fascinating! Who knew, I sure didnt, there was science and design involved. Hellsbells just someone giving me a classic "boo" is scary enough! That place is beautiful, hardwood floors, gorgeous wallpaper and furnishings. Thanks guys. 💝

john is amazing and i love his passion and excitement for haunts. he’s built something that really shows off his love for the tradition, while also coming up with new ways to give people that classic haunted house scare without going insane like others. i’ll have to appreciate from afar though because i’m not trying to piss my pants.

We get people who drive cross country to see us, people who come from the other side of the planet (people fly in from Australia to hang out with us) We’ve even had people move from multiple states away to work with us.
@@TheDstempien would love to come, just a couple days before this video was posted (was it taken down? I didn't see it) my daughter who's going into the US Army in September said she wanted to have a Halloween party before she goes but she couldn't because it wouldn't be Halloween. Of course I told her it didn't matter we could still have a Halloween party. Obviously this would be a lot better lol so kinda looking around for a haunt that's open year round and don't have to take a week off work right before I have to take a week when she ships off. Hope you guys still around when I can get there!
