I've been an Arturia user since 2009 if you can believe it. The V Collection is basically a synth museum and it's an absolute steal for what you are getting. I love how they not only go out of their way to be as faithful to the original as possible but also give it some additional (and tasteful) character. I was really happy with the latest version of their CS-80 having MPE support. This really brings it closer to the OG synth than ever since a key component of that synth is its expressiveness. (This is why Vangelis championed it throughout his life.)
@@snesmocha The Arturia DX7 sounds almost identical to the original. You should check out Woody Piano Shack comparison for a demonstration (and the key to getting it to sound the same).
It would be so wonderful to work with the original hardware, I think.... or at least I imagine it would be... 😄 If I mind the gap... I think my life is so much easier with software like this... !! 😅
Thanks Guy. I love all this stuff. Back in the 80s, I was in the RN and had a DX7, Juno, 808, sequencer and a portastudio strapped down on a desk in the computer room. Many great evenings were spent while at sea making a terrible din.
Thanks for the rundown...nice to see some of the functionality. I had a chance to buy an actual Synclavier back in the 80's for $10,000. My wife said, "NO WAY!" But thanks to Arturia I've got one now! (And the wife is long gone).
@@ThinkSpaceEducation i actually own a real Synclavier that has never worked. It was shipped by truck and the driver dumped it unceremoniously on my drive way and broke it. I do usre the Arturia Synclavier. The real thing is a 400 pound paper weight at my house
Analog Lab is a very helpful and handy way to use the collection. You can actually go into the nitty gritty of each sound in there if you own the instruments being used by 'Open' on the right hand side of the presets list, or even layer another instrument from the collection. the actual instrument interface will pop up, ready for you to fiddle with the patch.
Another big fan of the V Collection here. It really is extraordinarily good value; the Fairlight CMI is modelled with all its sample and sound manipulation screens available to use so you can indulge your inner Trevor Horn 'til the cows come home and I can confirm that it'll even load disk images from the real thing. For a synth nerd like me, it's heaven. Arturia's "Pigments" synth is also worth getting; it's one of the most user-friendly software synths I have used, and I've used a few...
Thank you so much! Watching this I found my piece of cake with my cup of tea! It's all the sounds of my musical roots, never dreamt of recreating. Priceless!
Thanks Uncle Guy for another very entertaining review! 😊I got the CS80V which came for free with Cubase 12, and I, usually being religiously into hardware synthesizers, must admit it's fantastic! Arturia, as we all know, also build analogue synths and all their knowledge must have gone into this incredible bundle! Their effect plugins are awesome too, and they have a second to none customer service that respond and solve your problems, if you have any, in a day!
This collection is a long time companion for me, I can recommend it anytime. As they are virtual copy of the real thing, you are able to create your own sounds and give your tracks your personal touch. BTW @ Guy, you find the suitcase in this collection too, SynthiV (awesome unique sounds) for transitions , athmos, fx or hard cuts.
I have version 8 and it gets a lot of use from me. However, I think it's worth noting that they do not give you the sound of vintage units; they give you the sound of a pristine and newly built unit. I've heard people say it makes it a bad emulation and that it sound worse than the original units they've used, but I'd say it's the correct way to go. You'll have to add the grit and dirt yourself, meaning you can flavour the sound to taste.
It really is a no brainer for anyone using a DAW. I own a lot of hardware synths and modular gear but being able to quickly sketch out a song using the plugins and then later use my modular gear if I want to has been such a productivity boost for me. Sometimes I don’t even record my hardware, these synths sound great!

Despite the fact that this software is unbelievably clever developed, it catches the essence of the real hardware. Brilliant and best VST collection to find.
I was lucky enough in the early 80's to have the opportunity to study and teach in an electronic music studio at Laval University in Quebec. We had Modular Moog, Mini Moog, Arp 2600, Synclavier. I had a Jupiter, eventually a DX7 etc. I own that VCollection and it is almost perfect. Unbelievable we can have all that sonic power mow for that money. But not for the faint of heart. You need patience and dedication to go through this stuff. I also have NI Komplete Ultimate and the two combine marvelously well. Endless sonic possibilities.
What a surprise hearing Guy quoting 10cc and Eric Stewart! 🙂 They used CS80 from 1978 (played by Duncan Mackay) to early '80s (played by the late Vic Emerson). Uh, the CS80 makes its appearance on Jethro Tull, Genesis, Tony Banks and Renaissance albums, to say nothing of Vangelis of course. Thanks Guy.

The other day I found (thanks Komplete Kontrol) this amazing preset on the CS80V where randomly a note plays an octave higher. I put KK's arpeggiator on, added SoundToys Crystalliser with a reverse pitch shifting echo and Native Instruments Raum after that... Sustain pedal. C13 chord. Instant bliss. And yes, Arturia is fully NKS compatible. Every single thing they make, a true Native Instruments partner.

I got the KeyLab 49 on sale for ~180 at Guitar Center and came with Analog Lab V. Fantastic library that I wanted to buy for $200. So I got a good keyboard and the library for cheaper than buying the library!
I got in on a V7 super sale for like $250 (I was originally wanting Piano V2, I figured another $50 for all the rest was great), and I'm up to 9, now. Arturia treats its customers *very* well when it comes to upgrades, other software or hardware owned, etc. I even have a SFC-5 dedicated Prophet 5 controller to use with Prophet V :D I like the original instruments they've created, too. I'll be curious to see if they continue this trend in V 10 or recreate another oldie. Give me a virtual K5000S and/or FIZMO, Arturia. Believe in me who believes in you :D Thanks for sharing!

Many thanks for the heads up. When synths cost a months wages you focused on it unless it was a DX7, in which case the world remained a blur and you swapped it for an ESQ1. Now you get a bucket load for peanuts and focusing is really tricky… still it’s a nice problem to have. Maybe one day I’ll go back there.
Picked up V-Collection back when 8 was released, absolutely lovely thing (though I still prefer TAL's take on the Juno). Really, really hoping we get a JX-8P emulation for V-Collection 10! Also the integration with their KeyLab controllers makes it a lot nicer to work with than most other software instruments
@@j.du6 I've got PG-8X (and absolutely love it), but the guy who wrote it isn't going to be maintaining it going forward. Would be nice to have a more future-proof emulation (ideally an Applie Silicon native version!)

@@j.du6 There's definitely been talk of it being open-sourced as he's stepping away, but we'll see what happens! Arturia's stuff can be a bit hit-or-miss to be fair. Haven't tried the updated Prophet from V-9 (apparently a big improvment) but the original version isn't great IMO. But on the whole V-Collection is a pretty handy (mostly) one-stop shop for emulated vintage synth goodness
The sounds he makes are more fun than the actual synths! He’s just the best. Always a smile after one of his videos. Ya know? “Doop -doop- beep - biddle blat! Lol
Most things in the V Collection are awesome. Everything in the collection is at least, really useable. I find I’d rather use Pianotech as my piano in most situations, but I don’t find myself considering deleting Piano V or anything. It’s not too big, even. If it’s really sample based, they achieved smart results with the space it even takes up. And Arturias copy protection is also pretty painless. Hooray!
It's not sample based, though it has some samples iirc. It uses sound emulation like Pianotech, but it's not as accurate still -- they're getting there though, v3 is good enough now.
Off topic but value your opinion, creating a template with SF Symphonic strings but there are so many options of long/short legatos plus everything in between. As a novice what would you recommended to include - so I get the most out of this library. Maybe a future video on what to include and what you can probably leave out. These libraries seem to spoil you for choice and I really don't know what is a good selection. that would offer best encompassing experience.
I have the 3 day free trial. I'm having fun but I'm realizing that I'm not going to use every synth. I'm kind of fighting a battle in my head between the value of this collection (which is amazing) and the utility I would get from it. I also don't want to regret not having it in the future lol
I would say that the user interface of an ARP2600 is actually pretty good but it's far from the optimal user interface when replicated in an software synth. I also love my smallish euro rack system but I have very little patience for fiddling around with something like VCV Rack.
Been with Arturia for many, many years. Absolutely love their emulations (I am old and hungered after the originals but they cost too much and where would I put them?). Highly recommended. Also, their customer relations is great (possibly they think I'm French??? I'm not). Remember the good old days, Guy? When you wanted to layer two (hardware synths) you'd need a MIDI cable and some prayers. Times are good now. You've transported us back to the early 80s. No bad thing at all. Brian Eno & Pink Floyd seemed to be able to get appealing (and unappealing) noises out of the EMS Synthi. I am scared pf programming so I am grateful for presets. Don't forget that if you buy the V-Collection when you upgrade the price is really good.
So i guess everybody watched "Hans Zimmer: Hollywood Rebel" documentairy on the BBC the other day (it's great, check it out if you can). There you can see that Hans uses the U-he Zebra plugin. Since you, Guy, are such a fan of Hans, i thought you would be using the Zebra aswell and might have made a video about it. Searching your channel i couldnt find one though, which kind of suprised me.....

Bought Pigments 4 for €99 and Arturia then offered me the new Minifreak V AND the full V Collection 9 for €179. Naturally I was all over an offer like that, steal of the century for everything you get. Awesome collection.
For clarity, if I purchase V Collection 9, that would give me access not just to the presets, but also the ability to edit the instruments, right? Right now I have a package that has lots of great presets, but when I try to edit an instrument, it takes me to Arturia's website where I can purchase that individual instrument. If I get V Collection 9, do I get full access under the hood like we're seeing in this video, or did you also have to purchase those instruments?
Hi Guy you have an amazing komplete kontrol 88 there .Have you opened the komplete kontrol app standalone and let it search your plugins and hey presto when inside your daw open the komplete kontrol vst then all those beautifull arturia plugs now appear on those two screens on your keyboard and you can browse all those presets from thwere too.
Looks as if you had switched to Logic permanently,I seem to have missed that video. Nice walk down memory lane soundwise, puts me right back to the 80ies with the funny hairdo and clothing... 😂😇(and all the great music, of course, and when vintage synths were the latest and greatest everyone pined over...)
Informative and entertaining. I like guitars and orchestral music, so I'm of the opinion that more retro-sounding synthesizers sound more fitting and organic in those settings (imagine a prog-rock-keyboardist in a natural habitat). Concerning synths, we are spoiled for choice and the point of entry into the synth world is a bit lower than full-on orchestral scoring both financially and know-how (in spite of leaps and bounds in that regard). I'm convinced that even freeware synth plugins can get you a capable sound that non-connoisseurs cannot discern once all the other elements are in the mix.
Thanks a lot for your tutorial. I have one (for me important) question: I use Logic as well, when I load only the instruments (without the the analog lab 5) I can automate all parameters without a problem. When I open the instruments in the Lab, automation doesn't work when I move the knobs and sliders, can you help, please. All the best Dirk
Super video thanks. Has opened my eyes to the Arturia instruments. Subscribed too. On another note, I happened to notice that you’re one of those musicians who fully uses midi and midi keyboards. Would it be possible to do a tutorial explaining the basics / fundamentals for those of us who might occasionally confuse cc with carbon copy. Thanks.
If you see a chance you take it, to find romance!!! First chords,,,, was that sound, but forget who it was 90s. Or the Lionel Richie "You are the Sun, you are the Rain." Song. And im not a huge pop fan. But those thick smooth, are deep hitting analog sounds.
The acoustic piano sounded way better than I thought it would being a synthesizer. I wouldn't use it for any orchestral music, but it'd be perfect for some Pop tracks.
Hey Guy, thanks as always for your funny and useful videos. Did you know AudioGridder? It’s a sort of VEP…. But free! It’s quite promising. I didn’t tested yet, but I’ll do asap. It can work locally and remotely on several slave machines and it can be installad on Windows, Mac and Linux. Cheers!
Hi guy, i need help , why when i use: clear ouput section and create one individual channel for each load instrument, on kontakt the volumen is too low vs the default when u open kontakt and load the libraries
It would be great world if sound from VST will be same as original hardware, but maybe not. That will be destroy hardware vintage and modern synths selling. So far, plugins and hardware aren't sounding same. They are sounding close which is also good. Recently I check Arturia Synthi and definitely sound isn't same with hardware. I will not tell where is biggest differences is, but it is :)

Lol
I am quite satisfied with just the offerings in Analog Lab to keep me busy.😁🎶🎹🎶Play On
Arturia did a Jupiter 8 but haven't yet done a Super Jupiter that had a very different set of classic presets.
For the old Roland synths and drum machines, I use Roland Cloud. But sounds good for any of the other synth brands.
definitely upgrading ..love your channel always refreshing
Most things in the V Collection are awesome. Everything in the collection is at least, really useable. I find I’d rather use Pianotech as my piano in most situations, but I don’t find myself considering deleting Piano V or anything. It’s not too big, even. If it’s really sample based, they achieved smart results with the space it even takes up. And Arturias copy protection is also pretty painless. Hooray!
It's not sample based, though it has some samples iirc. It uses sound emulation like Pianotech, but it's not as accurate still -- they're getting there though, v3 is good enough now.
Both Piano V and Pianotec use physical modeling with software alogrythms, no sampling involved.
@@foljs5858 I've heard that Piano V is based on an older or limited version of Pianotech.
Start with one track of legato one of longs and one of spiccato. If you need more duplicate the track and change the patch
Amazing video and great composition! You may have just sold me on it!
Thanks as always Guy! Brilliant!!
I have version 8 love it, big fan of 80’s synths (my teens)
me too
Picked this up for about £100 (as I own some Arturia effect plugins). Cheap and sounds good!
All true
Nice composition. Had the nostalgia I got from listening to the stranger things soundtrack, reminding me of the films from my childhood
2:45 My brother said in Windows 11 task bar is now centered, like on the Mac.
I said it won't matter much to me.
My taskbar will look much like yours here anyhow.
Bought Pigments 4 for €99 and Arturia then offered me the new Minifreak V AND the full V Collection 9 for €179.
Naturally I was all over an offer like that, steal of the century for everything you get.
Awesome collection.
No, the steal of the century was obtaining online for free thru the proper channels😂😂😂
@@MrScrooge1980 yeah you can't top free buddy, that indeed is the ultimate bargain.
Your name serves you well lol
For clarity, if I purchase V Collection 9, that would give me access not just to the presets, but also the ability to edit the instruments, right? Right now I have a package that has lots of great presets, but when I try to edit an instrument, it takes me to Arturia's website where I can purchase that individual instrument. If I get V Collection 9, do I get full access under the hood like we're seeing in this video, or did you also have to purchase those instruments?
Brilliant video as always, mate! And I always learn something new. 🎉🎉🎉
Love this channel. Thanks for the vid. Installed yesterday 9.2.
I had a small chuckle at your Synclavier... or is it Synclaviaye? 🤣🤣 so British.
Had a blast watching this
Looks as if you had switched to Logic permanently,I seem to have missed that video. Nice walk down memory lane soundwise, puts me right back to the 80ies with the funny hairdo and clothing... 😂😇(and all the great music, of course, and when vintage synths were the latest and greatest everyone pined over...)
A great collection! Though I prefer u-he Repro 1,5, Diva and Synapse Audio Obsession and The Legend for a really good organic analog sound.
Hi Guy, Ive got some good moth traps. Looks like you could do with a few !
Thank you for the great Tutorial and Sound ! Keep it up and well done.🙂
Thanks.
Thanks for the video Guy, good review. What earphones do you use? I've seen them in quite a few videos and I'd like to check them out
Will investigate... thanks Guy.
If you see a chance you take it, to find romance!!! First chords,,,, was that sound, but forget who it was 90s. Or the Lionel Richie "You are the Sun, you are the Rain." Song. And im not a huge pop fan. But those thick smooth, are deep hitting analog sounds.
The track you made reminds me of one of the tracks in National Treasure.
The acoustic piano sounded way better than I thought it would being a synthesizer. I wouldn't use it for any orchestral music, but it'd be perfect for some Pop tracks.
thanx Guy 👍
Hey Guy, thanks as always for your funny and useful videos. Did you know AudioGridder? It’s a sort of VEP…. But free! It’s quite promising. I didn’t tested yet, but I’ll do asap. It can work locally and remotely on several slave machines and it can be installad on Windows, Mac and Linux. Cheers!
You do fabulous videos.
You can get the entire collection 50% off for 300€ on Pluginboutique until 14th of February. Also FX Collection for 200 and Pigments for 100
Hola Guy, Uno de mis pluggins favoritos, trabajo con Metal Extremo y lo uso mucho en mis composiciones, otra cosa Hablas Español?
What controller are you using here? Weighted?
Hi guy, i need help , why when i use: clear ouput section and create one individual channel for each load instrument, on kontakt the volumen is too low vs the default when u open kontakt and load the libraries
It would be great world if sound from VST will be same as original hardware, but maybe not. That will be destroy hardware vintage and modern synths selling. So far, plugins and hardware aren't sounding same. They are sounding close which is also good. Recently I check Arturia Synthi and definitely sound isn't same with hardware. I will not tell where is biggest differences is, but it is :)
Hmm! Have you stopped using Cubase? Or do you use both Logic and Cubase on occasion?
I use both
Hi Guy! What keyboard you´re using in this video? And the button box on the left? Thank you!
Great video thanks 👌😎
Half off Black Friday! Also Xmas and July 4th...
Guy - Your the best . . 👋💫🔥
Hi, I would like to know if there is a list somewhere of which instruments are played together so that it sounds good, for example xylophone + double bass or something along those lines. Instruments that are made for each other so you can't destroy the sound.
The left hand had a Blakes 7 vibe
Soo good videos you got.
Interesting collection
Random question: What camera/lens are you using. Your image looks great!
Thank you - first bit is my Sony A7S3 which is I think the best vlogging camera ever made. The shed camera is a Sony ZV-E10
@@ThinkSpaceEducation Thank you
Price Arturia Collection 9 is atm 600 Euro. I own the collection 8. The upgrade to Collection9 is 300Euros, so half the price This is my "special" upgrade price and i own a lot of other Arturia VST's and hardware, like the Keylab 88. What do you think, should they make me a better offer? Like 200 (a third of the new price)?
I thought the same but you do get a lot of additional instruments as well.
@@ThinkSpaceEducation The full Upgrade is now 99 Euro's 🙂..black friday...
Also be a ware of give a ways during x mas and newyear, some good stuff
I don’t need the analong lab to use all those presets right?
The problem with the V Collection is the cost price of upgrades.
