Nice walk and scenery. Thinking of going to Taipei next year. I'm open for a quick hike about 3 hours long. I'll contact you later in the year for suggestions. Over and out😊😊
I believe there is a longer version of this trail , and it gets you to 20 waterfalls, there are lots of waterfalls around this area, even there is one hidden in the trees at Sandiaoling station platform towards Taipei end,
9:58 there is a popular nameless noodles shop in front of the railway station, apparently its very good, and I am guessing you were there on a weekdays, weekdays the settlement is quiet, weekend is completely different story!
Don't go there on rainy days. The road section will be cut off by the swollen stream, and the road surface may turn into a creek. There is a fork in the road that goes back to the entrance of Sandiao Ridge through the Hidden Dragon Canyon. The road is very narrow and primitive and adjacent to the cliff. It is not recommended to go there. The fork in the road Pay attention to the direction indicated by the wooden sign and you will not go the wrong way.
Actually forgot to mention about the hornets while I was at the cat village. Later on, soon before I left and had my scooter helmet on this massive hornet hovered right in front of my face for a good few seconds. I could see it's eyes. I didn't swat at it because I know you're not supposed to (because apparently they have a memory for faces, also it was the size of my pinky) and I guess it didn't recognise me as someone who swatted at it before and it moved on.
I did this hike when I visited Taiwan in 2015. The best part of the hike is to walk behind the 2nd waterfall (摩天瀑布) via a side trail. In your video, I can see the side trail @3:04 but you didn't do it. I'm guessing either you missed it or the side trail is closed. Not sure. Also, not too far from the waterfalls, there's an abandoned villa called Yerengu If you manage to get in, it can be an episode similar to your "abandoned UFO village" video. Here's a link to my 2015 video which covers both of the above: th-cam.com/video/enZ_n9DmQdE/w-d-xo.html

I went to Houtong Cat Village in August. Was a nice little place to visit.
A fun and exciting experience. The place is calming and relaxing, perfect for a peaceful hiking tour!
It really is!
Enjoyed the ASMR music in this one! Very relaxing to watch.

It was very quiet and I didn't see anything that took my fancy. So I stopped in Nangang for 胡椒餅 on the drive home!

You can try a 10 falls loop hiking next time.

The large orange and black ones don't seem to be too aggressive. But the smaller black-bellied hornets are nasty. That's the kind that stung me
