Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar , Companion of the Indian Empire (CIE), from a Bengali Hindu Brahmin family was a polymath from the Indian subcontinent, and a key figure of the Bengal Renaissance.
He was a philosopher, academic educator, writer, translator, printer, publisher, entrepreneur, reformer and philanthropist. His efforts to simplify and modernize Bengali prose were significant. He also rationalized and simplified the Bengali alphabet and type, which had remained unchanged since Charles Wilkins and Panchanan Karmakar had cut the first (wooden) Bengali type in 1780. He also forced the British to pass the widow remarriage act (If left to Modi, Shah and BJP goons they will again begin Sati and Devdasi!).
He received the title "Vidyasagar" from Sanskrit College, Calcutta, due to his excellent performance in Sanskrit studies and philosophy. Noted Bengali mathematician Anil Kumar Gain founded Vidyasagar University, named in his honour.
In 2004, Vidyasagar was ranked number 9 in BBC's poll of the Greatest Bengali of all time. Shortly after Vidyasagar's death, Rabindranath Tagore reverently wrote about him: "One wonders how God, in the process of producing forty million Bengalis, produced a man!"
What can be more shameful than the dishonour of our national heroes, a personality as Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Highly infuriating.😡
As an example vidyasagar ji got his son married to a vidhwa plus just like the milestone story he is supposed to have swam across "damodar ' river on a rainfilled stormy night...... yes to meet his mom....... plus it wasn't alphabets rather something like vowels that this great sanskrit scholar gifted us with like awe aa ee iii o oou etc... and the language though borrowed from magadhi is sweet worldwide........ irrespective of who broke the 200 yrs old statue and yes ishwarchandra used to keep a tika on the back of his hair....... we can discuss further after monday
