In this video, I am restoring an old fireman's axe. It was this form of axes that Günther published in his catalog of fire products in 1911.
Unfortunately, the seller only had an ax head. The handle and plates for attaching the head to the handle were destroyed by time (or simply lost). Therefore, I had to make them myself using old drawings and diagrams.
Axes of this type do not use a wedge to hold the head on the handle, because in extreme conditions (for example, in a fire), it was vital to have a strong and reliable tool. And for this, the ax head was fastened using two slats on the sides of the handle. And these strips were already screwed either with screws or self-tapping screws to the handle.
Restoration process.
To clean the ax from rust, I used electrolysis. Thus, the rust is separated from the whole metal. And no physical damage is done to the relic.
The handle was finished with wax oil. I'm not sure if any handle treatments were used in the old days, but since this ax will never be used for its original purpose, I decided to treat the handle with this oil.

but with the high tone pitch in the beginning of the video, the higher the tone, the harder the steel! Don't think you'll have any problem getting through a few doors with this amazing piece 😂🤩

Wedging has been used for thousands of years. The only difference is they type of wedge used. However it's not unique to those of us that love watching old things restored. It's merely what type of wedge will be used and where. Decent restoration though.

Saw this type of wedge use on a My Mechanics vid ages ago. While I'm sure there are arguments against doing things this way none of them top "I think it's cool."

этот топор не должен быть острым, он использовался для выбивания дверей пожарными.
Протестировать топор не разрешила жена, пожалела дверь в спальную комнату))))

Вопрос ---- для чего делать пожилины с углом 90 градусов , если там другие углы ?
Рукоять необходимо переустановить на 180 градусов .
