I agree with Dr Marwan, have got a chance to be in few clinics in Canada, there is quite a politics in the administration side, and sometimes the associates dont get the proper respect and encouragement that they deserve. Well I have witnessed at some places the front admins manipulate with the owners also. Because of the vast interdependence of admins and assistants and hygienists and dentists the dentistry becomes real challenging. But there are always the good ones out there who play the game very safe.😊

Hi, Doctor! I am sorry to hear about what you experienced. Like Dr. Marwan and you have said, there are great clinics out there, but you are right, you just need to go through the bad to get to the good.

Owner will always side with staff over an associate. Especially with shortage of CDAs and hygienists in Canada right now. It's easy to replace an associate as there is a surplus of them but very difficult to replace a good CDA/hygienist. Owner dentist (and staff) knows that associates don't really stick around long enough anyway, so associates really are the least respected in the dental office hierarchy. Just the nature of the beast.

I think it's crucial to make sure both owner and associate have similar treatment philosophies. If one dentist is conservative and other dentist is more aggressive in how they approach things then that will lead to a bad outcome. Staff, patients end up getting confused. Dentistry can be very subjective, so it's very important for both owner and associate to make sure their treatment philosophies align before starting the relationship. Just my opinion.
