      it is about a woman that was harassed (told how to raise her daughter) by the Parent Teacher Association. She was a single mom, who was doing the best she could do, and was a good mother. The P.T.A. was a bunch of hypocrites. This happens a lot in real life even now days

    I’m here because this song was written by my friend, Tom T. Hall. Nice to see someone reacting to one of his songs. Country music has taken a different direction in recent years and this song and other classics like it seem to be getting forgotten. Thanks for reacting to this song. 👍🏼

I’d pick out people (usually I knew) in the audience and use them for the PTA’ers😳🤣. It was so much fun! It really wasn’t that one side or the other was ‘right.’ It was the nasty JUDGING going on - everybody has a ‘pta’ they’d like to ‘sock it to’ 🤪🥰

    I love the song and liked the way you listened to it with an open mind. You did not try to shut it down because it was of a different Genre. You even started to move your body to it a little bit in the middle. You gave it a chance and I give you a thumbs up

  • @donaldmurray4853
    @donaldmurray4853 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When Jeanie C Riley was given this song, she did not want to do it because it was not Country. Her agent/manager told her to take her anger at being forced to sing it (she was under contract and had no choice) and put that into the song to ruin it and the producers would forget it. But that was just what did not happen. The attitude she put into the song made it very believable and it was a hit.

    In the 1950's and 1960's, the PTA was the formal organization of the "ladies who lunch." The mayor's wife, the pastor's wife, the judge's wife, the largest employer's wife, etc. It may have been technically open to any parents of schoolchildren, but it was dominated by the powers behind the throne, and they could get really nasty to those they considered "outsiders."

A little background for you about this song, she is one of the first female artist to write "and" produce her own song that was a top hit! Not only that, but it went to the top in the Country, Pop, Contemporary & R&B charts. Finally, Rolling Stone Magazine inducted Ode To Billy Joe into the top 500 "Best Songs Ever" list. You've gotta listen! It WILL give you goose bumps!!! Much Love. D

    I think that what struck me most since I first heard this song long ago was, how dare you tell me how to raise my child and call me unfit, when you all act like you do. For me it was always about more than just her personal thing, it was about standing up for her daughter to have a life where she can do what she wants without fearing hypocrites who may be watching.
    It's also about being brave enough to be your authentic self as She does everything in her life openly, she has nothing to hide whereas the PTA members live their lives with as much secrecy as they can pull off in a small town.
    But that's just been the take I've always had.
    Please keep up the wonderful content, I look forward to your vids. Much love and respect and I wish you and yours a great day.

    In my opinion it says those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones if they don't want them thrown back

    Watch the movie Starring Barbara Eden. Watching her walk into the auditorium in that mini skirt with those white boots... Priceless.
    Yes, it was a big deal back then to get a note from the PTA. (Parent teachers Association). They were snotty a...holes. lol

    I love this song and all of the songs on the CD but there are depressing songs included. My parents had it as an 8-track when I was a kid and it was so catchy that I remembered as an adult and had to buy it.

    I've always liked this song. It tells how people jude people instead minding their own business. Jeannie c Riley tells it like it is. Elvis liked this song.

    Small town southern myself and it's sadly true even without hotpants. Just being a single parent for awhile was enough. I felt those judgments before but killed with kindnesses and being myself. Only reason going around those people was my children. Fake and don't play well with others/outsiders. Nannies beware lessons learned.
