  • Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757)
    Sonata in D minor K.32
    Aria
Domenico Scarlatti’s Sonata K. 32, originally titled Aria, is conceived as a masterfully simple and expressive Cantabile above a simple accompaniment. The Sonata is part of Scarlatti’s collection of 30 Essercizi per gravicembalo, published in London in 1738. This edition possibly influenced Bach’s Goldberg Variations which appeared three years later and consist of 30 variations on an Aria. In his self-deprecating preface, Scarlatti warns the reader not to expect “to find in these compositions any profound intention, but rather an ingenious banter in the art to exercise you in rigorous play of the harpsichord.”
This piece is featured on our CD "Sound Stories", released in October 2024 by Accent/ Note 1.
