    So happy you saved her! I cringed when you showed the broken window😢 she has a lot of potential. I’d love to see what you did with her. I’m looking at a 56 mansion myself..

    I believe the funny little slots you refer to are for air circulation. there are lots of grates and holes throughout the camper. Possibly to dissipate heat from the old light tubes and ballasts. I have the exact same camper. 49 royal mansion. Really fun restoration, but it is a ton of work. I just finished pulling every panel, all insulation, and reinstall. good luck to you. Thanks for posting your video. Very helpful on a few details I was looking for.

    • @Nick-xu7wm
      @Nick-xu7wm 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, they were for ventilation. older mobile home had moisture problems, I guess because insulation wasn't very good.

      Thanks for the replies. That's what we thought and after pulling a few panels saw similar slots in the aluminum framing. We will make another video soon with the progress and another when it is in California for Independence Day. All paint is stripped, sides lightly polished. Top and rear are staying the dull aluminum to keep heat down. Adding larger LED taillights and new wiring for the brakes and turn/stop, running lights.

      Everett, Did you restore with original type interior or update everything on the inside? Curious cause I know a guy selling one extremely similar to the one in the video here. Not sure I want to redo everything as it was. I'd like to seriously modernize the inside and keep the outside original as possible.

    I had a 1952 Royal Spartan they were really built very well. Mine was in perfect condition. The wood paneling inside was gorgeous. They don't make them like that anymore.

    The cutout slots were just for ventilation, but they had a visual design element to them also. I am a '49 model too. The house my father built in '48 and several friends homes had the same type of slits and some round drilled holes in their cabinetry. Used in upper-upper cabinets, in bath, top part of closets, facing of the sinks. We were in south Fla., high humidity and no air conditioning. My father replaced the trim under our kitchen sink with a slot design when my younger sister stuck her finger in the original hole design. Took quite a while to cut her out. Screaming the whole time. I remember people with a place farther out in the county had added screen behind the slits, fear of rodents. The window cranks aren't surprising when you realize that the first trailers of this type were put together with existing auto/truck body parts that were available to the makers. And they were less likely to break while on the road.

    $1500 for that was a steal. 90% of those wood panels are restorable and will be stunning if done right. Same with the aluminum

    I have just found this same camper trailer, 1948 model, the interior is spotless. I am having it delivered next Friday and will need to learn what will need to be done with it. Want to learn how to either polish the outside or do a really high quality high gloss paint job on it

    I was thinking about building a self contained tiny home on a 39ft trailer and was actually wondering if I could make power windows from a car work ... Maybe put rain guards up all the way around the window to keep the wind from wearing out the screen from driving ... But that's cool to see the roll down window ...

    • @Copper-gl7ws
      @Copper-gl7ws 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We made it useable. I have a video from a few years back. TH-cam had some changes (forcing to use a gmail account) and I couldn’t get the new videos uploaded to this channel. Use Copper 1938 (with a space before year, to see a more current video. Also about 17 minutes into (Lake Havasu vintage trailer rally) from February 2019 there are videos and pictures of the current condition.

    I would make that look like a speak easy. And play Black jazz. The clothing was so sleek So jazz.
    OMGoodness. That bathroom is fucking dope. You will never find a sink like that anywhere sept in another one. Yes I meant to say sept.. I would turn that into a steam room and yes that means a fan in the sealing for when you are finished. You could even set it up to come on by remote from your phone. Like my son has done with the lights in his place.
    Love this trailer. Looking forward to seeing it's progress. I have that same water damage in the Skyline I just purchased yesterday. And the way you played that off I am hoping my damage is as minimal. I took pictures but I couldn't investigate. The family still needs to remove stuff from it. The title is in the mail so I can't attack it yet . But, I am making planes and decisions. A chance to breath again.
    I love fabric and I have plenty of it. I love all mediums.
    That bathroom makes me think of Steve Mcqueen. I want to see it when you find the toilet. I can't wait to see what it looks like.
    My guess for the slits would be vents for air to keep it from forming moisture pocket but finish off the sleekness. Plus ornamental . And the ornamentation would have been sleek and line forming like that. I would put branches from rosemary lavender and such. Beautiful, awesome find. I have only the slightest idea why the lettering turned red. Thank You for showing this. I will look for more.

      Waynes Grid We are in the process of adding the new running and brake lights. Stripped out the bedroom to access wiring and replace insulation. Paint is all stripped off and a light polish to the sides. Top and rear are left dull aluminum. I will make another video in July when we have it in California.

    Restoration is going slow. Finishing a few vintage John Deere snowmobiles and selling them in Minnesota in February. We have the interior all cleaned and 90% of the paint stripped off of it. took it to a Orphans car show and won the Biggest vehicle award. Probably finish stripping paint and gutting it the end of March. Yes, I do know about the asbestos. I have a few cartridge type masks to use during that process.

    • @alcoholic2412

      Evaporative (swamp) cooler. That's how.

    • @abseconPC
      @abseconPC 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would only work in a low humidity environment I know window units has been around since the early 50s and carrier invented the AC in 1902

    • @alcoholic2412
      @alcoholic2412 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abseconPC You are correct sir. Swamp coolers work great in Arizona, or anywhere with low humidity. The problem with old style AC was that they draw A LOT of amps. Sometimes 30 amps and trailers usually are only wired for 15-20 amps max.

    I remembered that one EXACTLY! But, I am not sure if it was ‘49. In early 60’s my grandparents bought it used. They’ve lived in Rockport, Texas shortly. Probably bought there.... Later moved to a ranch outside Roswell, New Mexico. Property including a small house which, they moved in and parked the trailer aside. Hooked up plumbing and electrical to use for guests house which, I did slept twin beds in living area. I remembered heating Tower was there. Build in dining booth. And I remembered my grandmother told me a small dry bar next to dining where they put their “19 inch TV on top. Flooring was dried thin wood... It creaks. Bathroom with shower head over sink. We bathed in main house but only use a toilet since the bathroom was bit rusted and my parents did slept on rear and at their door was added a passenger way to rear to the kitchen to main house. Until early 70’s they sold property again including the trailer too. Moved over 50 miles away.
