I was fortunate and blessed to be at the Vatican during the 1975 Holy Year and received a general blessing by Pope Paul VI in Vatican Square before walking into St. Peter's Basilica through the Holy Door. I also attended the Canonization of Elizabeth Seton's in an outdoor mass in September of that Holy Year. I'm still blessed by the memory of my visit to Rome. Peace of Christ be with you. ✝️
In those days, two miracles were required for both beatification, and canonization. (John Paul II changed all those rulings in 1983, when he massively reformed the process of making saints). But to help the process along, John XXIII waived a second miracle for St Elizabeth Ann Seon. He obviously thought it was important for this to be fast tracked, so America could have its first saint, which as you say happened in the Holy Year 1975, and on the eve of the country's bicentennial. NB Mother Seton played an important part in those historic events of the new nation. Her father was the first Health Officer of New York City, and she and her husband Will Seton danced at first president George Washington's birthday ball.
He never carried a crosier, he carried the papal staff or papal ferula, which was actually used by several popes, including Pius IX, Leo XIII, John XXIII etc.

No one was expecting that rubble to fall down when they opened the door! That was too close!
I remember seeing that when I was 11 years old on the television. You saw that Paul VI actually flinched. But thankfully he was not injured.

Poor old Paul VI: symptomatic of how the Church went too!
He was an Anti-Pope
Hace 50 años.
Why did Pope Paul VI begin the use of carrying the crosier?
He never carried a crosier, he carried the papal staff or papal ferula, which was actually used by several popes, including Pius IX, Leo XIII, John XXIII etc.
