Fast fashion is cheap. After I have received my first job, I was the kind of girl, spending a lot on Zara and H&M: I didn’t care about the materials and a lot of times my friends speak me in to buy. I have cutting of the numbers of items and buying quality for 3 years- still I have 7 Zara and 8 H&M pieces- now I have items that I thought I could not afford 😂.
Oh goodness, there is the H&M “bring your old denim, we will recycle it and give you a coupon to buy more”. There is video on TH-cam where researchers put an airtag in the denim and most ended up in landfills.
Yes! That's what I was talking about in the video, there's an investigation about that. www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/a/jlME1e/aftonbladet-investigation-into-h-m-s-recycling-airtags-in-items But it's sooo good, someone has finally started questioning it!
11:02 here in Brazil I'm very lucky in that regard, I happen to live in a city where there is several people willing to fix my clothes for me for very little money, usually less than 5 dollars a rip. even when they say it wont last very long, it usually holds up to 15 or 20 washes before damage starts to show again.
oh yeah, having your go-to tailor or simply someone who can fix your clothes for you is HUGE. I lived in different countries and sometimes it's so hard to find a good tailor. I'm lucky to have my go-to tailor here in Slovakia. But yeah the damage shows veeeryyyy fast 😢
Yeah over time i am learning about importance of item durability. Starting with owning too much clothes but not wanting to discard unworn items on a whim, i started decluttering method where i would inspect items i love to wear frequently, discard the ones that started visibly fall apart (develop lint etc..). Rest of the favorite items i would store away. That forces me to find new favorites in rest of the clothes i own and wear them. After some time i can see which of THOSE start fall apart and which dont. Then i store probably durable favorites again. What looks badly on me or falls apart i get rid of. Over time that helps me to learn which companies do quality items and which dont. It does not always corellate with price as expected . Some pricey items are crap and some cheap are not! :) . I have some supermarket t-shirts that maybe are not 5 out of 5 for looks, maybe just 3 or 4 out of 5 but considering how often i wear them they are AWESOME (at least for activities where i dont need 5 out of 5 look).
You're absolutely right about price/quality. It's difficult to predict what's gonna wear well and what won't. I also find that quality even in "stable" brands changes from collection to collection and from season to season 😢 Great idea about the storing of favorites! 💜
as a man, who isnt into fashion, or clothes, I have no clue how I got here. I like your cause though, fast fashion is just wearable trash, and if your clothes cant last a few years, why the hell are you buying them. I haven't bought clothes since before the pandemic and im fine, other people should learn to be fine with it too.
thank you for commenting ❤️but also, I have to say that the quality in the men's department in any fast fashion store is sooo much better! even basic things like t-shirts are made from better-quality cotton etc. so, unfortunately, if you're a woman, you're facing inequality in the fast fashion stores as well. coming back to the t-shirts examples, the ones in the "pink" department are also more expensive. I have a lot of feelings about this, as you can see 😂 and as for the cause, I just want us (consumers) think twice before we buy and make better choices (but not all my videos are this intense lol)
What's your favorite lie from our modern fashion brands? 😅
