In this episode I present to you exactly how it is to use the GREAT Nikon 400mm f2.8 TC. I share loads of videos and pictures, including my #NikonZ8 camera setting for autofocus and real world picture quality. It is not enough to simply say that this is the best lens I have ever used from any system. It is something everyone photographer should find an excuse to use and experience. A work of art.
Great experience Frames .. this lens magic is autofocus speed for critical focus . This is the fastest lens in the market when it comes to focus speed . I have tested A1 with 600mm f4 and Z9 with 600mm f4 TC , this still exceed both of them . I did some speed check , compared to A1 , this is 2x faster . Super helpful for kingfishers diving . Even with busy backgrounds or highlights that are distracting . I love the way it renders . Light weight and the CG with Z9 close to the body makes it very helpful hand holding . VR is superb , shooting handheld photos of owl at night at 1/6 second . TC is a game changer .
Dream lens ❤ Using a 400mm f2.8 suddenly makes you feel "Gear Does Matter" if are ok with the basics in Wildlife & Sports atleast. Sadly out of reach of most wildlifers 😢 Renting is a very complicated issue in India. Most of the renters are not absolutely trustworthy. I once rented a Tamron 150-600mm G2 for my first wildlife trip and when I returned the lens he said that a front element screw is missing which I found sketchy but had no proof so paid around 12-20K extra (don't remember the exact amount). Later I learnt he did the same thing to another person who rented the same lens before me, so it was basically a scam thing. I will never rent lenses again after this experience. I think renting should be handled by first parties also like Nikon, Sony & Canon even with a bit of extra rate. Because it will be trustworthy.
@@FramesTM The place was Jungle Beckons Beyond in Kolkata, I have also written it in google reviews. It was back in 2018-19, I was a newbie and so he might have taken advantage of that.
Hi, Great video. Very insightful and practical aspects that you discussed on. Do you have a reference for a trustworthy rental place in Delhi NCR? BTW, Sultanpur National Park is just 10 Km from my house and a place that I visit very frequently. Thanks.
@@FramesTM muahahahahaha! 1 and half. I won't buy it yet, because it is still the dead of Winter here, so I have some time to save up for it. At the moment, I am waiting for my Blue Zf to arrive. In the meantime however, I am getting the Carl Zeiss Classic (silver nose) lenses. The f1. 4/50mm planar and FTZ adapter were already delivered. The f2/28mm and f1. 4/85mm are on the way. When the Zf gets here, there will be quite a lot to learn and explore (especially related to video, as I haven't done any of that yet), before getting this 400mm f/2.8, with the TC. The options from Nikon, in terms of digital, are finally viable for me now, and I can hardly wait. Thanks for putting out the Zf setup guide, by-the-way. I have saved that and shall return to it for help when the Zf arrives.
For us mere mortals living in the UAE and not making a six digit figure, rental of such gear is out of the question because Nikon UAE expects you to deposit the lens cost as a "guarantee" in case you damage it or run away with it... What's the point of renting it if you need to shell out the full cost upfront anyway in addition to the rental charges?! That said, I don't personally shoot wildlife much so this won't interest me for rental, but I am interested in trying the 800mm if they didn't have this stupid useless policy!
@@FramesTM there are a few, but none have interesting gear. Just standard bodies, standard Zoom and prime trinities as well as cine focused glass. The ones that offer long super telephoto primes are mostly Sony and Canon, and the rental charges are outrageous! If you rent your lens of choice for a week, in some cases you nd up paying as much as owning the brand new copy of the lens!

I've had mine since it was released and can honestly say it has never disappointed me.
What other tele do you own?

So are you back to using Nikon? Or have you kept the Sony as well?
Thank you for your review and thoughts on this. Brilliant work!

Very interesting. You can publicly state here which place you rented it from. People should know.

Tempting but my 400/4.5 pulls through most of the time. I wish the 600/6.3 was at least 5.6 I actually might have bitten down on it.
After visiting a safari park, I can see how the 400 2.8 is perfect for wildlife.
The 600 4 is much better for birds IMHO.
Agreed

We might just bump into each other any day haha! I take it from Future Forward rental and from Baldclicks (Gurgaon).
The only Nikon lens I really want.
How many kidneys!

You should rent it for some time definitely

That’s so strange! But don’t you have rental businesses renting gear out?
