This pedal is one of those things where you don't realise how good it is until you have it there to play with. This video shows a lot of different synth effects but they don't show you much in the tone modelling department. This video merely scratches the surface of what this pedal can do! From experience this pedal is absolutely jaw dropping if you ignore the terrible presets and quite literally dive into the pedal to figure it out. I still get pains in my lower back but it was totally worth it!
my dad got this for himself and put it on his Strat. it really is amazing what you can do with it. he showed it to my guitar teacher who turned it to 10 different instruments which i've never heard of, and played this kind of japanese-esque tune he wrote himself. blew everyone in the room away.
Thank you for the fantastic demo! The included hex pickup and GT-10 class effects makes this a very good package. For me however it has always been a problem with Roland guitar gear that amp modeling is artificial sounding with a nasal midrange, and all the models have this in common. With the GT-10 this has lessend somewhat, but this characteristic is still there. On the other hand I am impressed with the synth capabilities and both Alex and Chappers are artists whom I would love to learn from.
@MyCatLovesMetal you do need to add the little pre-amp thing that hooks up to your guitar cable or MIDI cable. certain effects use the actual pickups of your guitar, but certain effects need the GK-3. so it's recommended that you get the GK-3 installed somehow. it's a pain in the ass but it's worth it so that you can do everything that the system can do.
When Alex did this presentation. How many months did he have with this GR55? Cause I've seen more of these demo's. And now you see all new things emerge from the possibilities the GR55 offers. Wich is great. But this sorta says how long you're gonna be amazed (and perhaps frustrated) by this unit when you decide to buy it...
yes the video is back :-) alex a alien that visited earth to show us, how to use loopers and virtual guitars. back to my question, do you think i'ts a good idea to buy this when i have already a vfg 99?
@coffeeflush I believe you need to use a special pickup that you put in between the bridge pickup and the bridge unless you have a godin electric guitar with the 13pin synth access built-in
@gooddario I may be totally wrong here, but AXE-FX is only sold on their website, not through retailers ... and that wouldn't be too much gain for andertons, would it ;)
Man, I'd love to hear Derbyshire's Doctor Who theme song played on this. Or perhaps even the synthesizer from 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. Anyway, awesome unit. Opens up a plethora of new sound possibilities
Maybe a year to late to answer this but yes, in fact if you plug a bass into this pedal you get a different choice of modelling tones. The synth tones remain the same though! You need the GK-3b for it to work though instead of the GK-3. It's simply the bass version of the pickup. I've never tried my pedal with a bass yet as I don't have the pickup for it.
sounds kool, rock sounds are a bit too digital for me, but i guess thats not its main purpose. I can see it being an alternative to installing something like a KAOSS pad in your guitar and doing some muse stuff.
Cool, but too high tech for me. All I use is a wah, overdrive, and chorus into a splitter into a Marshall MA50H on one side, with a Boss RCL-10 into a VOX VT50 on the other. I'm still trying to figure out everything the VOX does

those tones are ABSOLUTELY crazzzy! and awesome!
wow, it's so cool that you can chance the tuning like that.
outstanding demo by an excellent guitarist! thanks so much
i just would sit there all day listening to alex.
One of the funniest demos I've seen in a while! Keep up the good work. ;-)
Up until about 17 minutes this is good video... After that, IT BECOMES AN AMAZING VIDEO!!!

Great player. Rob really is the perfect side man here.
the part Alex plays starting at 13:07 is amazing. I am in love with his phrasing!
Alex the jazz player and Rob is the rocker!

Sweet vid, been considering one of these, think I'm sold
Fantastic playing, Alex seems like a good guy. Nice to see some Canadian content with the Godin too!
Great stuff. You are an amazing player Alex.
that DADGAD tuning with the strings is soooo nice!!!!
thats the best acoustic simulator ive ever heard
yay i requested this and its possible that that is why they did it!
Will be sharing with the musicians on my channel
Thanks!
Awesome! I have that guitar as well with a Roland GR20, I like them both very much :D
i would buy this just for that pat metheny synth tone..o my god its so beautiful
Chappers! I LOVED THIS!
And I'm so getting one, though they're not cheap
best channel on youtube!
13:08-16:20, absolutely fantastic!
OMG that sample he did BLEW ME AWAY! I sure hope I have cancer, because that would've cured it!!!!! :D
That is cool!! I gotta get one!!
Rob, the look on your face is like a teenager watching an idol ;) Never too old for that if you ask me!
Haha loved the wee dig at design the skyline ;)
Love Alex playing. He's one of my favourite demo guitarist. Makes me want to buy the GR55 100%...now, what can I sell?...
Can I also get some of those shoes from Andertons?
I use Ultex Sharps and I'm an alternate picker. Those picks have the best attack for chords and the best clarity and speed on licks and arpeggios.

Rob Alex is not using the GK3 pickup. His is built into his Godin.
Other than that an awesome demo.
I love Chappers face at 13:24 = "Are you guys getting all this on camera? lol

you've convinced me I need one of these....how easy are they to set up and play?
Steve Vai would like this pedal.....love you Rob!
Little track made around 12 mins is great
@imorez1 Yep and Alex will be there again! ;-)
I gotta say Chappers, this is one of your most ridiculous and funny videos ever! Love it!
Brilliant!
yes the video is back :-)
alex a alien that visited earth to show us, how to use loopers and virtual guitars.
back to my question, do you think i'ts a good idea to buy this when i have already a vfg 99?
creative guitar player
I´ll contract Alex and his Roland GR55 to my wedding. :DDD
@RobChappers awwww YEAH!! awesome!
YES Design the Skyline joke! I love you Chappers
WHAT
My two favourite guitarists on TH-cam together.....as one.... :0
Only ones missing now are Tom Quayle, Rick Graham and Jack Thammarat. :D
@coffeeflush I believe you need to use a special pickup that you put in between the bridge pickup and the bridge unless you have a godin electric guitar with the 13pin synth access built-in
Chappers did the Furious dance haha. :D
3:26 "That sounds like the bridge part from a Design the Skyline song!" Hahahahahaha
@gooddario I may be totally wrong here, but AXE-FX is only sold on their website, not through retailers ... and that wouldn't be too much gain for andertons, would it ;)
invite alex around more often
Man, I'd love to hear Derbyshire's Doctor Who theme song played on this. Or perhaps even the synthesizer from 'Won't Get Fooled Again'.
Anyway, awesome unit. Opens up a plethora of new sound possibilities
Please show us how to create our own sound, how to rename and save it...come on guys.
Can I use it with a bass? And can it for example mute the two lowest strings and tune the others to ADAD?
Maybe a year to late to answer this but yes, in fact if you plug a bass into this pedal you get a different choice of modelling tones. The synth tones remain the same though! Chappers where could i purchase a beautiful Andertons T Shirt?
where can i get this epic backing track? :D
darn I only just bought the gr-20 =( Cracking video :D
great entertaining vid thanks...
Haha I was about to say that at around 9:30 it sounded like the original Tron, then Chappers says the same thing while I was typing :D
Oh Monkey Lord you have a titan on your side... this was in-hu-man...
sounds kool, rock sounds are a bit too digital for me, but i guess thats not its main purpose. I can see it being an alternative to installing something like a KAOSS pad in your guitar and doing some muse stuff.
Great demo chappers! How much is this box of naughtyness?
@RobChappers Has to be before December the 21st though
Can you run other pedals along with this into your amp?
he just say "kurwa" in Polish lang. Kurwa
Alex is a fucking beast.
Is there a sound difference if I don't use the gk pickup?
Would this integrate well with a Kemper?
13:06-16:20 daaaaaayuuum!
Do we need to install the GK3 pick up to use the GR55 ????
how would it sound if you threw the pickup onto an acoustic?
well this is fucking epic
does the pickup that it comes with still work with a regular amp?
@iamrichlol Ha ha if you mean Alex then you re listening to a Bristol (UK) accent ;-)
I don't know how you are going to explain those dance moves to your kids in the future...
at 14:36 the heavy acoustic guitar is so awsome.
13:35 to be AMAZED !
so could you use this with a midi keyboard plugged into the computer?
I use those picks =D
Wait, so this can tune individual strings rather than just pitch shifting everything?
+AirCommando12 in a word, yes. You can tune different stings to literally anything and even have a different sound on each string.
James Metcalf How does that even work? o_0 I guess that could help with drop tuning floyds too...
hutchings!
So does anyone know how the hell Alex tunes his guitar in fourths ??? Sorry to sound thick but would like to try it .
holy shit alex pwns
fricken one man band awsome
@RockGuitarDave No way! He should colour it instead! Pink would be awsome!
@SplatterGuitar The haters \m/

does anyone know if roland or any other company does a pedal which does only changing tuning?
Can ut be used into a guitar amplifier?
Yes, as long as your gain is zero. They say piano amplifiers work better for gr-55.
GRRR fifty five. LOOOL
hahaha stixx box of tricks great
but can it do bandit tone?!
you guys shold review the AXE-FX
what is the rolling stones song at 4.43? i cant think!
chappers why haven't you reviewed any godins before?
