राष्ट्रपिता महात्मा गांधी की 150वीं जयंती के अवसर पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के आवास पर प्रदर्शन किया गया। पीएम मोदी ने राष्ट्र निर्माण में फिल्म जगत के योगदान की सराहना की। इस अवसर पर फिल्म अभिनेता आमिर खान और शाहरुख खान ने भी अपने विचार रखे। इस अवसर पर राजकुमार हीरानी द्वारा तैयार की गयी विशेष फिल्म 'Celebrate the Mahatma: Bande me tha dum Vande Matram' का भी प्रदर्शन किया गया। इस फिल्म में शाहरुख खान, आमिर खान, आलिया भट्ट, रणबीर कपूर
राजकुमार हीरानी गांधी जी के दर्शन पर केंद्रित फिल्मों'मुन्ना भाई एमबीबीएस' और 'लगे रहो मुन्ना भाई' से चर्चा में आए थे। गांधी जयंती पर पीएम मोदी ने फिल्म जगत की जिन प्रमुख हस्तियों ने पीएम मोदी से मुलाकात की उनमें सोनम कपूर, एकता कपूर, कंगना रनौत, जैकलीन फर्नांडीस, रकुलप्रीत सिंह, आमिर खान, आनन्द एल राय, राजकुमार हीरानी, इम्तियाज अली इत्यादि शामिल थे।
महात्मा गांधी का जन्म 1869 में गुजरात के पोरबन्दर में हुआ था। उनका निधन 1948 में दिल्ली में हुआ। उनका पूरा नाम मोहनदास करमचंद गांधी था। बांग्ला लेखक और विचारक रवींद्रनाथ ठाकुर ने उन्हें 'महात्मा' की उपाधि दी थी।
