- In our first interview, we spoke to Kelly Ann Gill from the Xerces Society and Steve Longwell about insect gardens and other ways people can help conserve insects.
There's a lot of ways to get involved. We spoke a lot about the challenges to insect conservation, and the theories behind how we conserve insect wildlife.
Insect gardens can be highly effective in creating habitat for pollinators, so long as they're done with care and implemented well. These can take the form of a wild area in your yard, or even bee-friendly plants which blend in with your current landscaping.
Insect gardens can be as much or as little maintenance as you'd like them to be. They can look like well-maintained flowers planted by your front door, or a wild patch of prairie that you just don't feel like mowing.
If you rent, there's a number of ways to get involved. You can upload photos to conservation websites, or even volunteer to count insects during BioBlitzes. Your local land-grant university can help you get involved.
