That’s why it’s important to save 3-6 months of expenses. Some people even suggest 6-12 months. I’ve heard that it’s good to have a financial safety net before moving to LA.

How hard is it to find an editor job?

It can be challenging at first, the toughest part is to get started. But then after that it’s a lot about networking and putting yourself out there to have steady work.

@@HollywoodEditingMentor Would you say editing for either documentaries/features would be more like leaning towards a creative job or more oriented on orignizing clips and doing daliies and sound tracks? I hear friends who work in films say that 90% of editing are just orignizing and matching shots.

@@seemslegit8858 Editing features or documentaries is NOT 90% organizing and matching shots. It is much more involved (and creative) than that. Assistant editors do more organizing, but in features they also contribute to the creative process.

This feels like a sick joke to those with kids. Like, "free time?" "Go to the gym?" If I'm unemployed, all of my time is watching my 2 year-old child. (Ain't no way we can afford childcare on one salary.) And *then,* I'm legit spending nap time frantically applying to anything and everything-editing, Best Buy, Starbucks.

Totally understand how this video might not resonate with certain people or their situation. I made this as someone that does not have kids. But in general it’s about trying to find some type of distraction from these tough times and staying positive. Maybe it’d be good for you to find a group of parents who are in post production for support. I would look at Facebook for this.
