- L'accessoire de SOG permet de remplacer avantageusement, en terme de poids et d'encombrement, le Tool Adapteur de Leatherman, adaptateur permettant d'utiliser des embouts standards (6.3 mm).
Cet accessoire se rangera facilement dans les étuis de Leatherman disposant de trois logements contrairement au Tool Adapter.

Je ne l'ai pas montré sur la vidéo, erreur, mais le porte-embout 1/4" se range aisément dans l'étui Leatherman en le clipsant sur la partie tronquée du prolongateur Leatherman logé dans l'un des passants latéraux de cet étui (comme montré dans la vignette de la vidéo).
J'imagine que des mécaniciens se feront fort d'usiner un peu cet accessoire de SOG pour qu'il tienne bien recto et verso :)

Conseils à Leatherman : l'un des passants latéraux de vos étuis sert évidement à loger votre prolongateur. L'autre pourra servir à y loger une petite lampe. Le problème est que le prolongateur n'est pas du tout bien tenu et risque de s'échapper, l'un des passants étant trop ample ! Réduisez-en donc la section !
Et au lieu de vous amuser avec votre Tread à 200 $, mettez un coupe-câble à plaquettes amovibles à vos Charge ! :)

Years ago I bought a Leatherman Surge after watching tonnes of videos with people who started with a cheaper model and had to upgrade this and that and complained about their purchase.
I've been a carpenter for almost 30 years. Buy the best first time around and forget the rest period.
I added a small mini ratchet, extender and bits.
Together with a Swiss Army Champ and you got all bases covered.
I keep a small 1/4 socket bit that fits into my extension for my surge. It works really well. I enjoy multi tools and love your channel, keep up the good work!

Je ne l'ai pas montré sur la vidéo, erreur, mais le porte-embout 1/4" se range aisément dans l'étui Leatherman en le clipsant sur la partie tronquée du prolongateur Leatherman logé dans l'un des passants latéraux de cet étui (comme montré dans la vignette de la vidéo).
J'imagine que des mécaniciens se feront fort d'usiner un peu cet accessoire de SOG pour qu'il tienne bien recto et verso :)

Conseils à Leatherman : l'un des passants latéraux de vos étuis sert évidement à loger votre prolongateur. L'autre pourra servir à y loger une petite lampe. Le problème est que le prolongateur n'est pas du tout bien tenu et risque de s'échapper, l'un des passants étant trop ample ! Réduisez-en donc la section !
Et au lieu de vous amuser avec votre Tread à 200 $, mettez un coupe-câble à plaquettes amovibles à vos Charge ! :)

I got all of the Leatherman bits (the two dimensional bits) and NONE could fit the clip on my Benchmade... Then I tried a regular T6 bit and it worked like a charm. Btw your vids are excellent, best regards from Sweden.

My improve - put in the little hole of SOG bit a neodyme magnet (5x2mm), slightly second glue and it never fall down from multitool ;)

Hello again! The SOG piece is nice, but the spring is always falling off after you’ve used it a few times. I would strongly recommend coating it in contact cement and letting it sit for a day, the next day presto - you have a great 1/4 bit adapter that is a perfect fit for 1/4 sockets AND the spring doesn’t get lost.

SOG, dans ces nouveaux modèles PowerGrab, PowerPlay, PowerAccess et Reactor, prévoie un logement coaxial pour embout standard à l'extrémité des manches repliés. Je n'ai pas lu que les embouts étaient très bien tenus à moins d'exercer une grande pression sur les manches en cas d'effort important ... Parmi ces modèles, le PowerGrab, bien équipé, admet le 1/4" Driver et son achat me tente ... même si le système d'engrenage de SOG me pose toujours des problèmes (ouverture de la pince/ écartement des manches) ...

I mean, at that point you could just carry a small dedicated bit driver, maybe a 4mm bit driver. Or a pry bar with a bit driver, like the vero fulcrum. I can't believe no one makes a good multi tool that has pliers and either a standard 1/4 hex bit driver or 4mm bit driver. 🤯 Such a simple concept..

A lanyard ring with a cord is used in particular to secure the tool around his wrist to prevent it from falling when working at height.

I didn't see where you keep the cylindrical chrome adapter that connects driver bits to the SOG gadget you stored in the Leatherman sheath.
The adapter can be inserted on the extender and the set fits in a side pocket.

The Tool Adapter Kit is no longer in the Leatherman catalog and it becomes rare even on occasion.

You can find the Leatherman Adapter on eBay every now and then but you need to keep checking very often and make sure it's the exact same design as the one in this video because there are 2 different designs made by Leatherman and one of them won't fit the Wave, Charge or the Surge.
The UNIVERSAL tool adapter is rarely seen anywhere (I bought a new one on eBay a few weeks ago, but I paid a lot for it as it was sold as a "collector's item"). The earlier versions are often available on eBay, and I got a couple of those, shipped for $60). I can use that for my Wave Plus and Free P4.

You have a hard time making yourself understood. So, you want to replace the leatherman bit holder with the 1/4 "SOG adapter.
Leatherman bit holder: 5.02 mm thick and 27,00 mm long.
1/4 "SOG adapter: 4.03 mm thick and 34.82 mm long.
This operation will not be possible because then the multi-tool can not close again, the pliers touching the adapter before full folding.

So between the Victorinox Swisstool Plus (with accessories) and the Leatherman Surge. The Victorinox Swisstool Spirit Plus (with accessories), finer, would rather compare to the Wave or Charge.
Frankly, these two models are excellent in terms of assembly, quality of materials used and robustness. It is the high end for heavy efforts (heavy duty). But, if it is necessary to choose, I say that the Surge equipped with accessories like a mini ratchet (see my videos), a standard bit driver and hacksaws is functionally superior even if it does not have the quality of extraordinary assembly of Swisstool. Difficult question ...

diezelle57 I was a bit more curious about how the Center-Drive holds against the Wave from your experience.
The Gerber Center-Drive is a response from Gerber to Leatherman after the release of the OHT, multi-tool that takes a patent from Gerber fallen into the public domain.
These two models are classified "Heavy Duty", so heavier and more bulky than a Wave for example. In addition, when it comes to the Center-Drive, I find it less well equipped than Wave or Charge (or a Surge for "heavy duty") and it's not its long, very long, screwdriver bit holder centered and the rapid opening by ejection of the clamp which will overcome the deficit of tools which it suffers : it misses a saw, the file does not act as a hacksaw, misses the scissors, etc. In EDC, Wave or Charge, obviously.

I looked at that tool adapter. It's discontinued, and now costs more than a new Leatherman! Ugh.
I work maintenance in a very large Grocery warehouse. I have carried the Leatherman Skeletool for several years and found that the proprietary bits are the Leatherman's downfall. The flat bit holder bends and deforms very easily and having to use adapters and such just to use standard 1/4 bits is a pain in the you know what. I am getting ready to try out the Gerber Center drive because it will accept 1/4 bits without an adapter. Is there a multitool that will accept 1/4 bits and have 1/4 and 5/16 nut driver bit storage instead of the tools no one ever hardly uses like bottle and can openers?

@@diezelle57 unfortunately they discontinued it many years ago, in favor 9f their proprietary but system. Buying an old one on eBay, costs as much as a new Leatherman! What a bummer.
@@diezelle57 they really need to sell a hex bit driver people can drop in, in place of the Phillips or flathead screwdrivers. Why would I need those, if I have a hex bit driver And most of the common bits I use?
@@diezelle57 or they could make one that fits over the Philips screwdriver. I know they won't, though. They made their proprietary bit system to make more money. I'm not sure they realize they're pissing off customers. I have a mind to sell my original Leatherman, and buy an inexpensive multi tool, with better features, and a hex bit driver. I noticed Leatherman has been skimping on their sheaths recently. My 1996 Leatherman Wave, came with a very sturdy ballistic nylon sheath. It's so thick, you can barely bend it. It's still in new condition, despite a lot of use. The newer sheaths look quite flimsy, and a lot of people have had to buy new ones, due to tearing issues
