I got the Primal Prime (Gorira Prime) version from BBTS and he's absolutely epic in this color scheme and I LOVE the comic-accurate head they created for his bot mode.

High Moon could have even done a bit of Open World too, explore the prehistoric world for energon and pick up side missions to do for various characters. The Axalon/later the Ark could be a central hub to change characters and pick up the main missions.

Remember these being One of the most sought after toys back in christmas 98 but my parents gave me razorclaw with a vhs of the first 2 episodes of beast wars season 2.
I had the red and blue version of the original back when I was a kid. But I do prefer the original with the proper colour scheme. In fact the orange, blue, grey and plum colour scheme is something I always come back to when thinking about colour schemes in design because of this Optimal Optimus.
So very well detailed and nicely moulded really cool, colours are perfect and the details on the face are beyond perfect, still love the original though
Did not know about the missiles hidden in the leg wheels. Also, the blue shoulder peices lift up for added arm articulation. When the chest is open, you can see the hinges inside. Theyre super tight but it works.
I assume the peg in the middle of the arm covers is to peg them into the middle of the arm and spread them out. He used them as shields one time in the show.

I begged for the original figure for Christmas or my birthday (can't remember). I had every G1 Beast Wars toy because I was obsessed. But, I remember the original being "Fisher Price" random transforming garbage; nevertheless, I still managed to fall in love with this gigantic figure. Robot mode of course was the shining star, but I felt that the beast mode was so far away from Beast Wars concept. This figure to me made me think, "Why even have a beast mode? Blending in with the surroundings is happening." I love all of my Transformer memories as a child. Silverbolt's fusion kinda confused me, but this one took the cake! As a child I thought all the figures looked so realistic and looked like real bugs, rats, etc.; despite the fact, they were not that realistic and was only the view of a imaginative child. The coloring, the beast mode, the transformation, it all lacked substance. Optimus Primal throughout had to have the most lackluster transformation (human-like creature transforms to a more upright humanoid robot), but the first Primals had such imagination and character to them. Even though this last Optimus of the original Beast Wars was so much more complex; I really thought its execution was rather weak. It is weird how much I love the first Primal even though the the transformation was so simple. Thanks for the review man!!! I am so addicted to you videos. the problem with most of these multi-mode transformers is that the designers try to avoid transforming the arms and legs as much as possible which is severely limiting. I bet if someone redesigned this so that the arms and legs did transform a little they could make the jet and tank modes look much better while still having the general style of the modes from the show.
Though I like most of the re-imagining here, I miss the fact that the original, when his feet are flat, act as thrusters, and there's zero thrusters for the back of this re-imagining.

Most reviews, including yours, laugh and make remarks about the ground and air transportation modes almost as though they are supposed to be an actual jet and truck, so they are so silly, like they were in the show... Optimal Optimus' vehicle modes aren't supposed to be a jet and car anymore than transmetal Cheetor turned into a jet, TM Rattrap turned into a car, or TM Tarantulas turned into a motorcycle. They are beast/vehicle hybrid transport modes, and cool bonus extra modes that pull off exactly what they are supposed to pull off just about perfectly. I think Gorira makes as nice an ape-truck and ape-jet as Tarantualas made as a spider-bike, etc. I loved the transmetals with their weird 3rd modes back then and still do now.
Optimal Optimus has got to be the best Optimus in the universe. Half Maximal, half Autobot.
