one of the pioneers of psybient and dub music. best of the many. please give us some insights to production workflow and what is that touch pad you're using to filter charles?

Hi psyde, thanks for the kind words! Very kind.
Firstly the pad is by ROLI called Lightpad Block, the guys who also made the seaboard Block. Very cool instruments with MPE. Still trying to master the seaboard. The pad allows you to add 2 effects on an x/y axis. eg. Reverb + distortion.
Live production at a high level, I break each track down into stems, such as BASS, KICK, SYNTH, etc. I then break them up into 16 or 32 bar segments. These are then put into Ableton as a matrix. This allows me to punch everything row and play, or mute and add individual stem loops when it's required. This is then controlled by the controller at the back. It's totally flexible.
Additional to this I have an additional mixer which allows me to add additional percussion and give build to the track. Each channel has it's own reverb and delay. I also use a VST (Serum) which has a analog sound. Using Filter cut-off (mapped to the keyboard) adds dynamic. This is feed into the mini mixer allowing me to add additional reverb, delay and distortion allowing me to add more change to the sound. I use the keyboard to play this.
And the keyboard I have some one shots mapped to the pads (crash, reverse noise, etc) that I can punch in at anytime. Everything is quantised, so notes and pads activate in sync.
It's a fairly nice setup. But still forever evolving. It allows at a minimum to punch each row in at a time, but as you get more comfortable with the tracks, you can the break it down and build it up organiclly to crowd. When playing I really want to give "live" aspects to it. It's my way of trying to communicate with the crowd. Even though setlists are pretty much defined with each gig, The final output is always unique.
Anyhow, could go on, but won't. Hope that answers your questions if not let me know, and give me a shout if you want to know something else. Thanks once again!

Thanks once again, for your very kind words. The next album, which hopefully will be out sometime in May / June, is like a sister album to SoloChillin so hopefully you'll like that one as well. Thank you!
