First up, My Condolences on the loss of your Dad Jason.
Its great to see other peoples projects even if they decide to sell along the way with the big bonus being the Sound of "Screaming Jimmy" 2 stroke goodness.
I've been a bit deprived of GM content since my subscription purge and apart from Phil and Indiana diesel you're it!

Condolences on the loss of your dad. Many "firsts" without him.
The ONR here srips the Go transit rail coaches with a very viscos paint stripper. Removes most of the paint to bare aluminum by scraping and hot water pressure washing. 3000 psig.

Joe's the man!!!! I'm glad you guys talked and he is helping you, advice wise...He is a world of info. We will be putting a breather on our aluminum valve cover per Joe's instruction also....If you watched our videos you can see how he plugged all the relief drains and we are putting release valves that operate under pressure...plus we got rid of all the lock washers, he says that should stop all the leaks...keep watching Jason, Joe will be back and after we get the block bored out we with Joe's help will be putting this old girl back together and this time I'm sure it will pure like a lion....And be sure you watch Joe putting our new double weight governor back together...sorry about your dad we know how that is....

Modern paint removers are almost worthless. The strong chemicals in the older formulas were remove for safety reasons. The new products are revealed by the term "odorless". Also they are defined by the statement " rinses off with water", or something like that. Sometimes I can find new old stock paint remover online.

I just got done stripping the 7+ layers of paint line off my bus. (+ interior)
"Jasco" is what I used, it worked alright, it took it layer by layer. I would let it sit about 12-20 min depending on the temperature outside, then scrape off a layer of paint, then brush on another layer of Jasco. The thicker the better because it dries quickly and absorbs into the paint, then just hardens the paint back up.
For the last layer, I used a 3" medium Roloc or 3M abrasive disk as to not scratch the aluminum too much (with Jasco).
It's seven or eight feet up, so the scratches don't really show.
After that, a sponge drenched in mineral spirits will wipe off excess residue.
I watched a video where a guy tested a bunch of different paint strippers and found Jasco and the Airplane stripper to work about the same. Jasco was just cheaper.
Best of luck, see you on the road!

With the different paints, some work better than others depending what is on the bus. I have to try another one.

Hi Jason, just wanted to comment on your bus roof, don't know how much research you have done but I have seen some automotive paint products similar to bed liners that are absolutely no prep that you can roll on yourself and they come in different colors, if I were you I would research some of those one step products! You wouldn't have to strip your roof. Also Sorry for your loss. Gus is sounding good!

Nice bus! Mine is a 1947 , pd3751, new high block with four valve head and jakes , complete rebuilt . Put the outside back to original greyhound colors and dog decal , all new air system , alternator , but needs electric work , have a problem with pushing starter button and only getting a click in the back , have to with screw driver to spin solenoid then going up to front and hitting the starter button then she starts right up . Any one have an idea ? New starter 4000 miles ago ! New battery’s could it just be a bad connection ?

  • @richardboisvert9998

Also once in a while around 45 mph it will go into a violent front wobble ,have to slow down then once tires are warmed up it never happens , any ideas!
