- Here is Maya Plisetskaya in what I believe is her only time dancing the choreography of Jerome Robbins. This is the 2nd Pas de Deux from his IN THE NIGHT which he choreographed originally for Violette Verdy and Peter Martins. Her partner here is A. Bogartyrev
I have never seen this before and I'm spiritually overwhelmed with her art. She has an unmistakable mien, and a unique form that's elastic and geometrically angular at the same time. I think that angularity increased as she matured, but she never lost her fluidity. Is the ability to shape space into form called plastique? I know she was dancing with a good looking man but I could not take my eyes off of her for a moment. This was spellbinding from beginning to end, and it went quite well with Chopin. Thank you sincerely for this exquisite post. And by the way, I enjoyed your book very much.
Incredible. Such clarity and musicality. No need to “emote,” as she IS the music. Thank you so much for posting this, and I echo another’s “thank you for your book.” It was a burst of positive energy and love.
It's a beautiful pas de deux performance by both elegant dancers 'Aleksandr Bogatyrev' and 'Maya Plisetskaya'; and nice music by Chopin. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks dear John! this vid. is a treasure.
This is exquisite. TY for posting.
Wow, she is really something: beautiful, musical, and with an "aura". I actually have not seen a lot of her dancing, and most of it is in films that are in poor shape. I really appreciate being able to see dancers whom I've heard of, but haven't seen very much. Thank you.
So cool to see this.
Performed by Violette Verdy the choreography looks beautiful ❤
Exquisite. Thank you.
I know it was last week but happy birthday Mr. B ! ❤️
Как говорится "во всех ты, душенька, нарядах хороша!")
wow!
Brava Maya 😊
Wonderful ❤
je viens de lire les commentaires je les partage tous je pense a ingar bergman le genial cineaste suedois cris et chuchotements le duo l exprime a merveille
Thanks so much. Fascinating in every way!
I cannot recognize the duet that i first saw with Peter Martins being heroically doical while Violette Verdy reveked in having him on her arm. Mme P's dress is all wrong. Perhaps that's why the upside down lift was changed. This version is meant to make Jerry Robbins turn over in his grave!!😢
Agree, the costume is all wrong. It ruins the line.
Can’t find that clip anywhere, is there one of them on Utube?
Thnx
That’s amazing. I’m distracted by her old fashioned Soviet pointe shoes. They look miserably uncomfortable.
Are the new shoes for example the bolshoi blocks more comfortable and in any way better? I dont think so.
@@susannevollmer2347at least they are not as valuable and hard to get as it used to be in the old times. My teacher told me that in Russia they had to wear their point shoes for a long time. They couldn’t break them in to make them fit perfectly for their feet like today‘s dancers do, because that drastically reduces the life span of a pointe shoe.
She is over 50 here🎉❤
Forgive me, IMO there are sloppy moments in this interpretation. The costume is blocking the line of her neck. Robbin's choreography lends itself to simple, flowing garments that accentuate the line. I don't get the choice of a gaudy circus costume for this gentle piece.
Nooooo!!!! Forgive me for the blasphemy but no, such dancey choreography and so choppy. This is all about the legato line and here we have a metronome. As much as I revere Soviet ballet but like every good thing it has its limits!
I love Maya and "In the Night", but I also thought of a metronome while watching this. There are moments of beauty but the whole performance is not fluid. I appreciate seeing it though. Thank you, John Clifford.
Awkward choreography not really fitting the music. Even the legendary Maya couldn’t make this look good.
