0:28 Yep, that famous white balance drift is still there. Check the color of the snow right after your pass across the field of view. It is cooler before and warmer after.
I don’t think 10-bit color is a necessary feature for me. The Ace Pro 2’s built-in Leica color profile is certainly enough for my uses. I’m sure we all know that 10-bit is not even supported on social media.
Most people don't upload HDR to TH-cam. But, whether the footage is filmed with an iPhone or something like Osmo Action 5, it is possible to get an HDR badge on the settings cog. This means (in most cases probably?) that the video is in a larger rec2100 color space, has 10-bit color depth, has per-pixel brightness data (so the same color lit up differently doesn't necessarily have to be represented by a different color), and the separate exposure of dark and bright spots when recording. The lack of proper HDR on Ace Pro is a deal breaker for me since I do stick to an HDR workflow across a couple of my channels. Last year Osmo Action 4 also had something like "active HDR" but it's not real HDR as the footage is still in rec 709 color space.
@SnowboardABCD interesting to know this stuff, I thought when I first got the camera that it was awesome, when looking at it on my phone, but as I actually edited the footage on a larger screen I think I prefer it off!
@@malcolmmooreI actually somewhat regret spending so much time researching all of this haha! I got addicted to getting the HDR badge at some point, it kind of fascinated me since I got an iPhone 12 a few years ago. I was really surprised to learn last winter that none of the action cameras (available at the time) support a proper HDR format like HLG. And HLG is now 10 years old 😅 Most modern phones and TVs are compatible with HLG HDR and similar. But I'm not sure at this point if my videos are doing better or worse because of HDR. There are still plenty of viewers with hdr-incompatible screens, and HDR footage does look quite washed out for them. On my other channel half of the views are on TVs followed by 25% on mobile devices. But I might be pushing away a portion of the audience so I totally understand creators who prefer to stick with the usual rec709! It makes a lot of sense to use it for shorts. I usually see around 85% of views on mobile phones. Unedited 12-second clippings of helmet-mounted iphone footage leisurely filmed during a couple of powder days in Hintertux last April/May yielded me ~ half a million views. If only shorts meant anything haha! There are still a few quirks with the whole workflow. Until recently in editing programs like Premiere or Capcut the color space of a project wouldn't get automatically set to rec2100, and exporting was a PITA. It's much easier now than 1.5 years ago but it still takes a day or two for TH-cam to process HDR.
@@malcolmmoore yeah it's way too technical for most people to even bother really 🤣 HDR is loosely used by various companies to describe different things. Sometimes it even means different things for different products of the same company! DJI volunteers on forums are/were confused between the "high dynamic range" available on Osmo Action 4, and proper HDR like the HLG on Pocket 3 or Osmo Action 5. Hey Malcolm, thought maybe this season for you, you could show us some of your park riding or add a bit of freestyle flair to your riding with butters, side hits etc. I love watching you carve of course and can understand if you’re just not really doing much freestyle stuff anymore but you are so in control and also break things down verbally so well, I think it would be cool to see you do a bit more of that riding. I think the last time I have seen you do a little of it was when you were riding a Dancehaul.
