    I don’t think 10-bit color is a necessary feature for me. The Ace Pro 2’s built-in Leica color profile is certainly enough for my uses. I’m sure we all know that 10-bit is not even supported on social media.

    • @SnowboardABCD
      @SnowboardABCD หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most people don't upload HDR to TH-cam. But, whether the footage is filmed with an iPhone or something like Osmo Action 5, it is possible to get an HDR badge on the settings cog.
      This means (in most cases probably?) that the video is in a larger rec2100 color space, has 10-bit color depth, has per-pixel brightness data (so the same color lit up differently doesn't necessarily have to be represented by a different color), and the separate exposure of dark and bright spots when recording.
      The lack of proper HDR on Ace Pro is a deal breaker for me since I do stick to an HDR workflow across a couple of my channels. Last year Osmo Action 4 also had something like "active HDR" but it's not real HDR as the footage is still in rec 709 color space.

    • @malcolmmoore
      @malcolmmoore  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @SnowboardABCD interesting to know this stuff, I thought when I first got the camera that it was awesome, when looking at it on my phone, but as I actually edited the footage on a larger screen I think I prefer it off!

    • @SnowboardABCD
      @SnowboardABCD หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@malcolmmooreI actually somewhat regret spending so much time researching all of this haha!
      I got addicted to getting the HDR badge at some point, it kind of fascinated me since I got an iPhone 12 a few years ago. I was really surprised to learn last winter that none of the action cameras (available at the time) support a proper HDR format like HLG. And HLG is now 10 years old 😅
      Most modern phones and TVs are compatible with HLG HDR and similar. But I'm not sure at this point if my videos are doing better or worse because of HDR. There are still plenty of viewers with hdr-incompatible screens, and HDR footage does look quite washed out for them.
      On my other channel half of the views are on TVs followed by 25% on mobile devices. But I might be pushing away a portion of the audience so I totally understand creators who prefer to stick with the usual rec709!
      It makes a lot of sense to use it for shorts. I usually see around 85% of views on mobile phones. Unedited 12-second clippings of helmet-mounted iphone footage leisurely filmed during a couple of powder days in Hintertux last April/May yielded me ~ half a million views. If only shorts meant anything haha!
      There are still a few quirks with the whole workflow. Until recently in editing programs like Premiere or Capcut the color space of a project wouldn't get automatically set to rec2100, and exporting was a PITA. It's much easier now than 1.5 years ago but it still takes a day or two for TH-cam to process HDR.

    • @SnowboardABCD
      @SnowboardABCD หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@malcolmmoore yeah it's way too technical for most people to even bother really 🤣 HDR is loosely used by various companies to describe different things. Sometimes it even means different things for different products of the same company! DJI volunteers on forums are/were confused between the "high dynamic range" available on Osmo Action 4, and proper HDR like the HLG on Pocket 3 or Osmo Action 5. I found some really funny forum threads where owners of OA4 were condescendingly suggested to buy a 7 grand camera if they want HLG.
      For shorts, HLG HDR (or iPhone HDR) makes total sense as majority of views are on mobile and the footage really pops as the video takes control of brightness of various areas of the screen. I've got some incredible results last Spring. But there are also hardcore haters of this
      😆

      The purpose of 10 bit is only for post production / editing. If you shoot in a log profile you need to color grade the footage later and 10 bit is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY here.

    Hey Malcolm, thought maybe this season for you, you could show us some of your park riding or add a bit of freestyle flair to your riding with butters, side hits etc. I love watching you carve of course and can understand if you’re just not really doing much freestyle stuff anymore but you are so in control and also break things down verbally so well, I think it would be cool to see you do a bit more of that riding. I think the last time I have seen you do a little of it was when you were riding a Dancehaul.

      @malcolmmoore  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PacketOfCereal every year I tell myself I'm going to get back into park riding and every year I seem to steer clear of most things freestyle 😂 you're right though, I should get back to it! It definitely won't be early season as my resort doesn't build a park until mid January, but yes I will try and endeavour to make a park tutorial, my back 3s are still pretty good so I should at least be able to do a tutorial on those!

    • @PacketOfCereal
      @PacketOfCereal หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@malcolmmoore hahaha, all good. Don’t put pressure on yourself feeling like you have to be riding like a pro in there and throwing crazy stuff. You are so in control with your board and body you can hit small stuff and make it look good. I think I just remember you cruising through the park on the Dancehaul and just looking calm and hitting things so naturally in a smooth line. It’s fun to watch someone riding like that and not always about throwing big spins or crazy stuff. If you want to do tutorials in there, personally I think frontside shifty with a backside 180, and backside shifty with a frontside 180 would be good to hear from your perspective. This season in NZ I managed to progress well with butters and backside 360 off side hits but was too scared to throw a shifty with a 180.

      Ah thanks, I've updated them, the new link will give you the 15% X4 discount and a free snow kit. They are both great, basically the X4 has a better image quality but if the clips are never going to go further than your phone then the X3 is totally fine. And it is actually smaller and lighter so when you hold it out on a stick then it weighs noticeably less. All my videos last season were shot on the X3 and they're fine. But yeah, for better image quality, X4.

      @@d-redfox Yeah I still use them. I haven't ridden the Clews so honestly I cannot say totally fairly what they are like, but they for sure don't have the best reputation. Nidecker do now give me free equipment, and although that doesn't require me to speak positively about them, its just something you should also be aware of! With that all out of the way I am still using them and what I can say is there have been multiple small improvements to the bindings since their initial release. Small things like the amount of pressure required to release the binding have been tweaked and adjusted. So, all in all, everything I said in my original reviews still stands, and small upgrades have been made along the way, but you wouldn't know about these unless you tried an old set straight to a new set. If you want a step in binding, then they work very well, but they don't offer anything performance wise over a regular binding.
