Then get in front of a microphone and do it yourself, the Libivox readers are all volunteers, (many of them are not English nor is English always their first language,) and personally as long as these readings are intelligible which they almost always are then I'm grateful to anyone who gives there time to benefit the rest of us in this manner. If your sensing certain healthy contempt here for you criticism then you'd be absolutely right.
I reported a comment on here saying that this wasnt "a reading of substance" which totally confused my perception of this reading from the get go. I wish that person would get their ears some ear aides because they obviously cant tell a good thing from a bad and then be grateful for it. Instead they have to badmouth good things and ruin it for people who can appreciate it
Good to know. Most listeners are probably Americans and we can't hear the difference. We just want all our audiobooks to be read by BBC-sounding voices. Or Jeremy Irons. That posh, slightly dour and gravely voice is how all Brits should sound. I mean, America loves Jeremy Irons so much that he was our villain in the Lion King, our Borgia pope and we gave him the Best Actor for Claus Von Bulow
This was actually quite dull and predictable and what is said of York could probably and just as accurately be said equally of almost any other medieval town or city of the same period; if you skip this you won't be missing much.
One of the very best LibriVox narrations out there. Perfect French, too.
How very humanely and warmly read. Thank you!
Great stuff. I grew up in the city of York so this is fascinating. I love Peter Yearsley too, such a great and calming narrator.
envious i love the UK
Peter is an excellent narrator!
this is perfect to listen to before bed
1:52, I've not long woke up and I'm almost heading for a coma myself! I'll save this for my many struggles with insomnia!
Peter you rock. Your narration is classic
Worth a listen, good introduction to the topic and a good reader
Really enjoyed that. The first audio transcript of this type I took the time to listen to.. Thank you.
If only all Librivox narrators were even half as good as he is. 👍👍👍
Kara Schallenberg is amazing
@@emjackson2289 She lacks colour and sing songs through everything.
@Festina_Lente She'd describe taking a dump exactly the same as a first glimpse of the new world from the deck of the Santa Maria.
Karen Savage is great, does English, American and Spanish with clarity and enthusiasm.

Just because youre used to crap doesnt make a good thing be unsubstantial, you %$#^ing cretin
Excellent. Thanks
Visited York in 2005.omg what a stunning town, best underground museum in the world. Also scary as hell at night
York is amazing at night and when it’s snows it’s magical l.
I've been saying on other recordings that a book about anything English, should be read by an Englishman. This should be non negotiable.
Oh, fuk off ...with 2 fingers, not one
Except when the book wouldn't be read at all. lol. I'd rather have a flat American read it then no book at all.
@@-.00__I__o8o__I__00. Abuse is not an argument 🙄
totally agree, I switch off its isnt read by an English accent. At least then towns are pronounced correctly
Yes
Wonderful speaking voice.
Beautiful book 😊
Excellent reading.....still as stated in summary it seems more a tease, leaves one wanting to truly learn something more substantial

When the narrator sounds bored...
You can tell the narrator doesn't know York. "Boot-ham-Bar" is pronounced "Boo-tham-Bar".. The L is silent in "Peasholme Green"

Well then Roman puke, you read it for us, pronounced USsssss......
Sorry, but it wasn't pronounced Boo-tham-Bar in Medieval times. Maybey you should read up on Medieval accents. Your thinking modern accents .
Big deal, "Little Boot", set your magnificent brain to correcting more important issues. Go fiddle!
I somehow never thought of Caligula as a pronounciation nazi. Live and learn.
