Sadly, my player actually broke on me and I just got done with an emergency procedure so I’ll be paying hospital bills for awhile but I’ve been waiting for this for so long, so I can’t wait to be able to pick these up! The screenshots on this first one look absolutely amazing! Your Dad would be proud!

Kudos to whoever helped you get that set, what a cool thing to do! I loved these movies back then but I haven’t seen them in many years. I had just turned 13 when the first one came out and I was giddy with excitement over a superhero movie coming out. Hope I can check them out in 4k soon, I bet they look great!
The 4k transfer on this movie has been trashed by many people and many reviewers, but much of this is due to the natural intention with the way it was filmed, with soft diffused lenses and a smoky, dreamlike appearance. A number of these people will be the first ones to complain had the no ie been grain scrubbed by DNR.
Professional reviewers like the digitalbits, hidef, and others have all given it an A or a 5. But yes you hit the nail on the head with The majority of those who trashed it are the ones who do not understand the look of the film is not a from a bad transfer but inherited and intentional. This is why I included a brief segment about that. Also most people don't have their TV settings set right or use manufacturer presets.
I've got to be honest and say that while some of the 4K shots look better than the Blu-ray, some of the Blu-ray shots actually look better than the 4K to me.. but that's just going off the screengrabs...in native 4K UHD it might look better.
4k ultra hd of Superman looks great I have my copy I saw this movie when I was 12 in 1978 in metarie Louisiana at The Lakeside theater which has long been torn down . My mom loves superman we took her to see it on it!'s 40th anniversary in 2018 she passed away in 2020 of dementia it was her idea to see it in 1978 thanks mom for introducing to superman R.I.P Mom I love you
Also, someone else I respect says that the Atmos mix is not based on the original 70mm mix, and the 5.1 that was on the previous 4K release has been dropped from this new 4K disc but that was supposedly based off the original 70mm mix so it should have been included.
No there was problems with the 5.1 mix and not from the original source. The Atmos is a new mix from the source audio elements. Meaning they took from what they could from the orgrinal audio source and used it to give a new mix.
Hello ,with your background that you seem to know a lot about the mastering process do you know what happened to the supposed 1978 Superman new master that we're supposed to get or do you suppose they're going to release a 50th anniversary in 5 years from now .I just don't like the color grading on 78 Superman I think it looks terrible let me know thanks .
As far as I've heard this is it. They didn't do a new color grading. The HDR10 only elevates the colors that give it more pop. You have to remember back in the day studios would have to change colors and manipulate the image for home viewing on NTSC 4:3 TVs. Now we all have big 4K tvs with all the bells & whistles they no longer have to do that. When they restore a film in 4k they bring the film back to its original theatrical colors/presentation. So what we've always been accustomed to for years, That's the wrong color grading.
@@TwinFlicks I guarantee you the color grading is wrong it's consistent throughout most scenes but there are a lot of scenes , when Superman takes off to save Lois from the chopper coming out of the revolving doors that scene is way too dark looking . Superman takes off /lands after delivering the criminal to the police officer the blue in his suit looks way off . the scene where Superman is ripping the door off of Lois Lane's car all the way up to where he screams and takes off the color grading of the blue on his suit is way off as well as the blue in his suit again when he's talking to lex luthor and if you watch Superman 2 theatrical version on 4K and you watch that opening recap scenes while the Superman theme is playing those same scenes on part two on the 4K for the part 1 recap are all color graded correctly so that's why I know that they can fix this but they choose not to for whatever reason . I really do think the 78 Superman Blu-ray looks way better the, 4K looks better focus wise and texture wise but color grading wise it just gets on my nerves . it's my favorite movie of all time . I think part 2 and the rest of the films for the most part look really good .Well that's my gripe but thanks for getting back to me . .

I do agree a couple shots look better then the 4k and of course your looking at compressed screenshots. Overall it's looks great
The 4K totally looks better. There's detail in the highlights, which makes the Zoptic front-projection process flying shots look more real.
