We have been coming to Whitby for years and love the place, but the last few times we have seen a change in the place . Not for the good I’m afraid, it’s becoming less charming and quaint.
It's been less quaint now for some years. I've been going back to Whitby for over 20 years and noticed a change everytime I went back. Last time I was there in 2023 and noticed a lot of unsavoury characters in the area are bringing the place down. I went to Wales this year and immediately fell in love with it..has all the charm and character Whitby has lost and will now be going there instead.
@@expletivesnotdeleted6362 I couldn’t agree more, we were y There at Easter and significantly noticed the difference. Although we did see a lot more unsavoury characters there a year or two before. We will be giving it a miss for a few years, a shame because we love Whitby.
@ElizabethTurver don't get me wrong I love Whitby. But the constant need for more bars/takeouts etc etc is just attracting the wrong sort of people to it. I started going to whitby way back in 99 when it was hardly known about. Now Whitby has just become yorkshires answer to Blackpool. Full of chavs and unsavoury characters. Wales and Shropshire is our calling now.
Sadly true. Times have changed. I know many local people who now avoid the town unless they really have to go in. Too crowded, lots of drunkenness and loutish behaviour from lunchtime onwards,, and the mix of shops - many of the local shops, banks and so on locals used have gone, replaced by micro pubs, bars, fast food places and tourist honey traps 😢
Feeling so grateful I happened to be there last week as weather was sublime… Walked from Whitby to Sandsend along the beach in a short sleeve dress!! Love it there and Simon and Mrs. M. have shared new corners to enjoy 💙☺️💕
Walkers, St Thomas St Scarborough. A good place for your electrical appliances, Simon. They are part of the Euronics buying group so their prices are not much more than the online retailers. Great service though and they deliver free to Whitby.
Because these chains can undercut the traditional independents and take all their business , shut them down the increase prices . It’s capitalism at its worst but inevitable by definition , shame for the locals .
When you think about it, its cheap parking, say £30 for ticket paid promptly for 12 hours parking / working right outside the door with no risk of theft, tools to hand, team of lads feeding from it, all the heavy stuff taken out and put in van for disposing back at base, no skip cost. Basically a mother ship on hand for peanut cost. They’d have to pay anyway in the car park.
Morning Simon and Mrs M. Another lovely day at Whitby. There isn't much social life there after 8pm but that is my guess. You need to get some fangs and recreate the Count.
I wish there were more mom and pop watering holes than chains ones .Bought my first liquor at a mom n pop watering hole that was established back in 36'.its closed now. But I do remember the owners being so friendly and didn't care if you paid with change.
Great video as usual here for a week but don’t think it will be done so have to come back just met you outside the Cornish bakery pleasure to meet you and one off my bucket list chin chin mate my name is derek forgot to say
Hopefully Osbourne's keep it cheap and cheerful as in Yarm. It'll certainly give spoons a run for its money if it does. Mind you all the day trip loons will probably ruin it.
Another day, another bar. It must be Whitby 🍻🍾🍷🍸🍹🍺🥂😢. Now got to be said Simon, got to be said. Your videos show at least two inhabitants of the Town like a drink or four. Be it ale or falling down water or the legend that is " vino much callapso" Whitby, home of the grand scenery, odd sights and tales of the dark past. But I've heard tell of the latest monster who prowls the streets. Apparently the frequently spotted reeling man and a fair lady weave a path of unknown destination. And woe to any who follow. 👻👻👻👿😈Now about their ticket, the workers weren't causing an issue on the road 🚗😉they were parked on the pavement 😂😂😂. Any🦉 hoot, Tally ho🦊🐴🐕Allan&Family
I'm a big fan of your content Simon but the Poco isn't serving you well. I've had a number of Xiaomi phones myself and I'm a fan. However I think you would be better off with a Pixel (just as cheap but really good) or an iPhone. Love the channel Chin Chin👍
Working to improve the place and get a parking ticket. Disgusting, let the men work Council will be holding their hand out for the rent/rates/council tax.
Whitby folk are mostly the salt of the earth but in my opinion the place is just too busy during the season and you are getting every Tom,Dick and Harry 'not Harry's bar thats brilliant ' wanting a piece of the action and some of these companies don't give a hoot about anything they just want your money£££'s😮.

Was in Whitby yesterday and had a full English in sackys. Absolutely fantastic! 😜
Nice!
HOW THESE COMPANIES CAN CONTEMPLATE OPENING ANOTHER PUB, CONSIDERING PUBS ARE CLOSING DOWN EVERYDAY THE LENGTH AND BREADTH OF THE COUNTRY.

It's a very expensive town now for accommodation, food ,drink, boat trips etc etc!!!
It certainly is

Whatever the case, Traditional Whitby wins out in the end.
Ahh for Willisons a little piece of traditional Whitby. Sad to say heart is being ripped out of the place.😢
