I start to working out as a kid during Lee Haney era. Pumped by oldschool VHS videos. Tell You this, if I was a kid right now I would never have that kind of passion watching Phil, Kai, Jay.
I used to work at the gym and I always tell my family how great a sitcom would be based on the characters of the gym. Would love to see a tv show based on what yall are talking about!
i remember joining my first gym i was 18 and we knew nothing! we got a training routine from the owner of the gym but did we follow it ? NO! haha I was in there everyday 3 hours working out and after 12 years i saw the gym owner again he said to me " you trained too much " that was your problem ahaha but i loved that gym it wasn't commercial.
Ya might want to interview Billy Markakis, I used to work out with him a bit in the mid '80's. Solid old school advice, knew the '70's scene, real character.
Ric, I saw Billy Graham in the mids 70's in a place called Sweeneys located in Massachusetts, it was a true dive, he was with some huge wrestler I think his name was Kenny chambers- that guy was gigantic
Would love if the gyms were like that today would be great the best gym i was ever in was when i boxed had a great time but these other gyms have to many serious owners it's sad really, great vid ric keep em coming on a marathon at the moment lol
i am one of those regular guys i think we were one of the last era that didn't knew what we did but just had the guts and will to train 3 hours plus everyday lol
Years ago, we had our fair share of characters at the gym where I trained. Most of them I trained with: Billy- Truck driver. The leader of our strange little group. Had amazing upper body development but skinny legs. Looked a little like Ken Waller. Tony aka Popeye - Lumberjack. Short guy with overly developed arms like Popeye. Could French press a Buick, but had no development anywhere else. Joe aka The Chest- Firefighter. Had an overdeveloped chest, didn't train much else. Jeff aka Cutman - Stockbroker who used to give us a hard time. Constantly lectured us about the dangers of gaining muscle mass and that we should strive to be cut...like he was of course...which...he wasn't. Would do weird karate kicks in the corner of the gym. He was the butt of many jokes in our gym. I even drew a comic strip about him and passed it around. It was a real hit. Then there's me: 16 years old who could bench 265. I had a mullet and wore a Kool cigarettes shirt. LOL
Every gym has em'! Great to hear the funny stories.

Yeah. Dudes spend more time hogging machines just to lean over their phones texting than lifting. They act all entitled.
Ric that was the best.

Ric our gym is nearly as crazy as golds in the 70s lol
Sounds like good times, not like the gyms today everyone is so closed off

Rick, you need to find and interview Heidi or the rainbow hair one Debbie and also try to get Tommy Chong. That would be great stuff!
did gordan scott tarzan train at golds
I'm the guy that is always bitching that the weights need recalibrated because they feel heavy today.
Why bother about weight, its all about the end product
