    David, the problem of getting older is not arthritis or slowing down. It is seeing trusted friends and family disappear before your time arrives. After saying that, I am pleased you can still produce videos like this so that others can learn the correct ways to build engines.

    David in the 1970s I built a 327 with 12.5/1 jahns skirtless pistons and 202 heads and an lt1 solid lifter cam and wiend semi hi rise manifold holly 850 double pumper carb and truck rams horn exhaust manifolds man it went like stink.

    This is great stuff! I'd love to see a video some time, on what to do with the goodwrench 350 to help it along. When i was car hunting this motor was in over half of the cars i looked at. It has lousy 76cc heads coupled with really low compression.

    🥝✔️There is another metric for proving the right lobe centre is used..Take Cubic inch displacement (355 in this case) , multiply it by the peak power rpm (5000 rpm in this case) and divide it by corrected SAE Gross HP ( 381 HP) . (355*5000)/381. The number you get is 4658. If you use a 114 lobe Center, the likely result will be 5335, (355*5200)/346. The lowest number from an average of five runs is the best result. The late Australian engine technician Phil Irving (1903-1992) used this method, and so does Former Open Wheeler and Touring car Engineer Larry Perkins. (1950- date)

      Or in this example: 305cui x 5500/289hp = 5804,498 and now what?

      @@t.g.5832 You try five different lobe centres and the one that makes the most peak power for the least Revs wins. That is, the lowest number of CID* Peak Rpm/ Hp ( Ai, or Aspirations Index) proves you've optimized the combination. The Method is called the Hilth Method, for determining the idealized peak on a polynomial data set. You have to do Dyno tests, and plot the results to find the combination that gives the most peak power for the least Revs per minute. To answer your question, if 5804,4 is the lowest factor, then it's best. If you had 5600rpm and 290 HP ( Ai = 5889,7) with another LCA, and 5800 rpm and 292 HP with still another ( Ai = 6058,2) , the 5500 rpm at 289 HP still makes more rev specific power. Just pulling 100 or 300 more revs to make 1 or 2 HP isn't worth it if the engine is losing port energy. The tightening of LCA normally pays dividends in just this way. People who do statistics and calculus often twig to this concept. The vast majority of people are peak power motivated, and don't understand that pulling an extra 200 rpm to get an extra, say , 2 HP isn't an improvement in efficiency.

    Tim here.......rockers......my Stock Eliminator buddy (who broke the record for his class in '87, and NHRA had to retire the ET/MPH record, cuz nobody cud touch it)....went thru 120 rockers to find 16 that had the MAX ratio NHRA allowed..........'nuff said......GREAT STUFF!!!....LOVE ur new chanel sir!!!

      @@hotrodray6802 i dont mind a roller tip, but it is of VERY minimal gain, as MOST ALL the friction is in the ball.....so the $ spent will be for almost no gain, where a full roller frees up ALOT of friction due to the roller bearing trunion

    could you please make a video about multi carb set ups? specifically dual quad Holleys. Theory, set ups, manifold preparation, tuning tips, ect. I would love to see a technical video on that topic. Im putting a cross ram on my 383 and would appreciate the knowledge.

    Every time he introduces himself, I find myself wanting to correct the way he pronounces his last name. Anyways I'm so glad I stumbled across this Channel and I would love to see more info on four valve heads if possible. I will say too that I have learned a ton of of this channel but I know that if I wasn't penned up in a recovery bed for a good month now, I would be working and donating to the channel.     The Edelbrock Air Gap is one of the best dual plane because of its air-gap?
    I will completley block off my exhaust heat passages and maybe use a heat shield / heat refelcting paint on my 283cui to get some power back !

    Hay Dave I have a 94 ranger with a 2.3 . I put a new trimming belt on and it doesn’t seem to have as much power.? Maybe slack in the belt idk .?? Wold it be wize to advance it a tooth ? Grate content btw thanks for all your R/D save us fellas time for sure!!

    Lots of great information in this video. I especially liked the armature paint to seal the shot blasted surfaces. Some questions come to mind.
    Can the armature paint be used everywhere inside the engine?
    How many HP, roughly, does back cutting the valve stems and modifying the seats good for and does this increase with ported heads? If I understood correctly in the Vortec porting videos Dave mentioned that the seats affect low lift flow more while the porting affects the higher lifts more. I'd imagine that the seat modification would work more at lower lifts while the back cut stems should work more at higher lifts is this correct?

    Hey DV, I have a question. In the video "Race winning low buck 383 sbc build", you've instructed us to use a LSA of 107 for a flat tappet cam. In this video you say to use a LSA of 108. Could you please clairify? Thanks in advance, love your video's and knowledge sharing:)

    I think I missed something here was the externally balanced engines crankshaft and rotating assembly balanced or is the 400 Cid dampener better then the 8 in dampener that originally came with that engine I understand that each are externally balanced or is the recommendation due to the material used between the inner and outer dampener pieces

    You jump back and forth in subject. You use constant filler as search for words.
    You have a ton of distracting and interfering noise. You know engine beefing but really need to learn some communication skills.

    Only back cut the intake valve, not the exhaust. Doing the exhaust can increase reversion and destroy flow.

    Come on David, doing a video in a operating shop doing business is just dumb. I made it less than 2 minutes before leaving this comment and then leaving. It's happened in other videos and I just don't understand it, you can't be so deaf that you can't hear it. You might be able to ignore it but I'm sure there are many more like me that find it EXTREMELY annoying. There has to be another room you could use or do the videos at home. I would be willing to bet that there are very few of your fans that aren't bothered by this and honestly it's just stupid that someone on your team hasn't brought this to your attention. I would be willing to say that absolutely nobody wants to try to make out what you are saying over the background noise of a die grinder!!!
