I personally think this is one of the best episodes of GMMD i've seen in a long time. I've been a pretty faithful follower for the last 2 years or so. I love the music in this episode, and these are some of my favorite songs. I really enjoy and love the stories, cinematography, adventures, and love the little bit you did on "what happens to your finds".

As I'm sure you discovered, Sousa refers to John Philip Sousa, composer of The Stars and Stripes Forever and many other marches. He's also where the name "sousaphone" comes from. :)

I know when I was actively hunting Arrowheads and other stone Artifacts, the main rush for me was the knowledge that I was the first human hand to touch my find since the guy that lost It. I can imagine metal defecting is much the same! Great video! Thanks for taking us with!!!

love your philosophy Brad. Giving the finds to property owners, historic societies, etc. Most all of my finds at this point go to others. After 38 years of detecting, I detect to share.
It's all worth it, just being there, and enjoying the outdoors.

gas fitting, they were decorative in t \he early piped gas lighting days and also the same with free standing heat radiator parts, brass and fancy.
I absolutely love watching your videos & I love your passion for history. When I detect, I always wonder what was going on in that spot 100+ years ago. I wonder the same things about how valuable some things were & whether the owner searched for them unsuccessfully. I study old maps & try to find out as much as possible about the specific area going all the way back to when it was settled. It's such a fun hobby. Like you, I love being out in the woods enjoying nature & all it has to offer. As a Forester, I spent most of my days out in the woods until a couple years ago when i became completely debilitated by chronic neurological Lyme disease. Taking up metal detecting has been an absolute godsend for me as I was about to lose my sanity not being able to do all the things I once did. 😥 I am so lucky to be able to escape to the woods with my metal detector for short periods of time on my good days - it's amazing how wonderful it is for my mental wellbeing!!!! Keep up the great work, I love watching your videos. You are such a great guy with a kind heart!!!

Living here in North Eastern Vermont is a Blessing. The winters are long and strange especially over the last ten years. The beauty of the mountains is breath taking not to mention the streams and wildlife. Where I live there are many areas to explore and many open places. This time of year in the woods we have to be careful of the bears. The ground is getting soft from the thaw and dumping and metal detecting is right around the corner. Really enjoyed the video but more so the beauty of our state.

Have you found any ancient coins there in Italy?
In Italy metal detecting is not a common hobby, cause the most part of country is under archeogical restricted laws. There is a prison for that. I love detecting old farms and we have so many artistics artifact that in Sardinian sea, this summer I have found a decorated spanish pottery dated 1500 during having a simple bath in the sea!
Or walking around my house, in a new part of Rome, I found part of anciant roman giara

Thanks for yet another trip back in time! You were right about the brass piece being a "valve" it is the main part of what is commonly known as a petcock. They were/are used primarily as vents or drains in various high pressure machines especially steam vessels.

Great videos brother. I have respect for you. Your discussion about our hobby was right on point. I detect on long island Suffolk county. I client of mine let me detect his home in east setauket. I found a brass plate from the orginal dairy farm that was there. Then some old buttons from the ship yard that was there after that. I gave them to the owner and thanked him for the permission to hunt. He was surprised to find out what was there and very thankful. I know what your talking about and it feels great. Be well brother.
Being 61 and collecting coins since i was 5 I just couldn't go thru all that work and give them up....everything else would be cool to find and Landowner could have them or I would donate to the historical society ...Hats off to you for you are better man than I Gunda Din

The mystery item is a drain petcock. Date from 1870s thru 1920s. Could be older if it had a design.
It could also be a bed piece . As in australia here we have bed end which are brass bars upright an ench one between the corner ends has another brass rod goin corner throu a little brass piece the same as this find an on the top is a little decorative brass spear . The beds are late 1800's to recent
Yep petcock. I was going to guess a similar date timeline as well.
Definitely a peacock 100%. Very similar items were fitted to cars and motorcycles of teens and early 1920s.

I find your methods of sleuthing very valuable, especially in an area that’s been hunted in the past your finds of the day we’re definitely fantastic digging up a couple of coins.
I’ve taken up this hobby and have been venturing on my property and a few neighbors that I border all in all a good 90 acres combined. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to use my detector I’m not finding the lost Dutchman, but the odds and ends are cool the history in my area is amazing.

That harp cover is probably named after John Phillip Sousa and am American composer know as the march king. That brass item is most certainly a valve missing the guts.I'm wondering if the valve is part of a gravity oilier since there are only pipe threads on one end.

Old jump trap leghold..collectable item..they jump up for a better hold when sprung..i got a few in my collection.they still work altho i dont use them.allways enjoy yr vid.s cheer.s ron
Made by Oneida Victor and also known as an under spring trap likely a size #1.5 or #2. That particular trap has not been set in years.

That double-wick style lamp burner was common on whale oil lamps. There would have been two hollow metal tubes protruding up from the holes that held the wicks. Very cool!
I see this was a year ago. Same as you, I always enjoyed getting permission to hunt historic old property's. I always gave the land owner whatever I found. As you stated, its history, that makes it more important than value. Generally, land owners never had that much money to lose. Mostly it was barter services. I always found my coins in town parks.
That unidentified brass thingy could be off many things but my 1st thought was a part from an old drip oiler that belonged to either an old steam engine or a hit and miss motor which were used in all kinds of farm uses including tractors, water pumps etc as I have found a couple of old oilers in the past. Awesome hunt mate :))

Awesome video Brad , the brass valve is missing the turning part , they were tapered snug fit . all cool finds, love hearing your reasoning on what areas your hunting.
Tje brass piece in the beginning looks like a valve that we've found in our old house. If they could have had gas lighting it could be for that. But being in the mountains that's probably not likely. Or a spigot off a oil can for oil or kerosene.
FJH12 a piece of gas lighting was our first thought as well.

I enjoy your show. You should do a restoration video of that hammer or other tools you find. I enjoy restoration videos on youtube also. It would be cool to see a video like that thrown in
Those large cents coppers are in beautiful condition.
ADVICE....be very careful cleaning them off.
EXAMPLE....The 1803, in that condition, BUT a different “variety”, would have been worth about $25,000. One scratch from a thumb could literally wipe $10-$15k from it.
The 1834 seemed to have a bit of luster to it.....just beautiful, considering how long they’ve been there in the elements. Some coppers completely corrode beyond recognition. There are people who dream of finding ONE large cent, and you just found two in good condition. Wonderful pieces of history. Great job!
As a kid, my grandad and my mom played harmonica. I was good for a few songs, but not my fav instrument. Luckily, the also played guitar. It makes a lot of sense getting married in winter. Nice tidbit to know.

I believe the the brass valve is a petcock valve off of an old tractor to release the cylinder pressure for easier starting. It's missing the center piece to open and close the valve.
