The original Speer Quartet was formed in 1921 by George Thomas Speer, his wife Lena Brock Speer, his youngest sister Pearl Speer Claborn and his brother-in-law Logan Claborn in 1921. George Thomas was a gospel songwriter, teacher and farmer. As time went by, he and Lena would come to be known by fans and family alike as Dad and Mom Speer.
After 75 years, the Speer Family announced their retirement at the National Quartet Convention (Louisville, KY) in 1998.

I love to hear and watch Kathy Watson sing. She really gets into the music and you can tell that she knows what she is singing about.

Kathy is a personal friend. We were all in the Alabama Gospel Quartet Association together. Her family (The Watson Family) sang everywhere. She is from Gardendale, Alabama. Debby Fields Rosser.
