If I recall, an unused voiceline for Tankman seemingly insulting Daddy Dearest similar to how he does in the death screen for Week 7 was found, I think he mentioned how bad he was at raising his daughter, so that probably adds more evidence for him being playable.
There's an unused voiceline where tankman tells daddy dearest "Old man's got moves! It's a bummer you raised a whore though" I think you can find it in the github files of the game or on TH-cam.
More proof that Daddy Dearest will be playable is that there is an unused Tankman line in the GitHub files where he says "Old man's got moves, a shame you raised a whore though" most likely for whenever you die as Daddy Dearest I love how unhinged Tankman's lines are lol
the icon head animation might have been the temporary thing to later send it to the pixel artist to use it as a refference of making the animation. this was done with senpai and pixelated versions of BF and GF in the past so its not a suprised they would do this again.

@@InklingPedro He didn't ever mention that was the purpose of him doing it, but I can assume that they are references for Maowling (the pixel artist) to use as other icons in the freeplay menu animate the same way as the animations in that livestream PhantomArcade did. Also I think the Daddy Dearest icon in the character select reference over top Boyfriend could've just been a placeholder till Maowling would create an icon for Boyfriend since obviously at the time he wouldn't have had an icon for the freeplay menu until the developments towards this update. Then again who knows when which things were done as PhantomArcade mentions that the team did a lot of different things in the wait for Destination 1 and the different updates we are getting are the result of those months of nothing said about the new content, so who knows what was finished or worked on during that time

(Edit): Apparently new information surfaced a while back where Ninjamuffin denounced Cassette Girl as a playable character, so I guess that's a rare L for the Cassette Girl fans. It most likely means Hank's coming after Tankman as for playable characters.

the comically large camera pointed at bfc 'default', and the other similar Icons actually do get used! it's just that in this current update you can't place stuff in the chart editor yourself... HOWEVER if you import a chart from the previous update that uses the corresponding events they actually DO appear in the chart editor in the extra column to the right of the strum lines!
I assume this is just the further continuation of them trying to stylize the editor - in the original blog post they did make it clear all the visuals and ui stuff were only temporary placeholders, basically being default haxeui stuff - so hopefully in the far future everything looks more.. fnf-y.

I am pretty sure I remember that if you paid enough, they would add an OC of yours as a playable character. but after a couple people did it, they removed the option. They want to do something cool and different with them so maybe they'll have their own selection screen, or you'd unlock them straight away when you just boot up the game; instead of earning different characters as you play thru it (like unlocking Pico, tankman etc).
Personally I'm not sure about the Spooky Kids being playable anymore, especially with how their creator isn't very involved in comparison to Pico and Tankman. Also I think most of the remainders will be important future opponents.
I thought it would appear in this video, but there's an unused freeplay animation of pico spinning hin gun except he accidently loses grip and the gun slams onto his face and falls on the floor, he looks embarrassed for a few seconds and then kicks back up his gun like nothing happened. Cassette girl has been long scraped way beforeb the drama, and they've stated that they've scraped her at the first draft because they did not knew what to do with her since it did not fit the style the game was going, also dave stated taht saruky did Cassette girl better in her own mod So yeah Cassette girl is not gonna come to the game
That is honestly sad. Even though she's able to come to life through mods, it sucks the original won't be a canon thing in the game, but thats how game development goes I suppose. It's always fun though that some unused content that still goes unused still carries that since of memory. I time where they were being developed, but either due to time, style change, complete overhaul of a project, yet still live stagnant within files never to be updated or worked further upon. The mystery and speculation is infinitely intriguing.
I remember phantom arcade made an image that showed a few of the planned future playable characters, which included pico but also cassette girl and hank j Wimbleton, so they cud be a few other playable characters, unless we were just being trolled which wasn’t surprise me lol

As someone who has experimented with the engine, I'm going to provide my opinions on this. Good work though Week 4 has a new alternate background. 1:54 To be honest I heavily doubt Daddy Dearest is one of the playable characters. His voice is just a worse version of BF's and I don't see anyone choosing him. Also the pixel icons are done procedurally rather than using an alternate png. I've seen someone predict his icon there was either a joke of a stand-in for hank, I believe that personally. But tankman is 100% being added, especially with how involved his creator is with the game. 2:28 The kickstarter mentioned a two-player mode where players would sing against each other. I believe the mockup is meant for this rather than the freeplay selector. Heavy speculation incoming: I think the +10 player characters thing is repurposed for the two player mode instead of the select menu we have right now. While the characters like Pico are far more ambitious, I think the characters in this section will just be vocal swaps of pre-existing songs. This could have been scrapped altogether but I don't think they would completely remove several of the main aspects of the kickstarter (2-player, online multiplayer, changing the opponent's voices...). Also for another prediction, the characters in the "vs" section will be much less ambitious in comparison to the big ones in the current selector. 6:54 The larger version is the one used in-game. The other two are leftovers from the previous way of doing it. The developers seem to be trying to switch to more efficient methods of rendering sprites such as texture atlasing in results and char select. 9:18 These are used to mark an event in the chart editor.
Week 4 and weekend 1 also got new backgrounds, the one for week 4 is only in the erect remixes and puts a more blue hue to the characters and background, while a fog has overtaken Philly in the BF mix of the song Darnell
Also I could’ve sworn I saw the colored sprite of Pico flipping the bird while playing the week one remixes. Also when I did the new remix of Pico, I got a glitch where the song would loop, seemingly indefinitely. There was no charting, and on the second loop, the smoke notes that appear when you miss scrolled occasionally as if they were normal notes. I left the song and moved on by the third loop. This only happened the first time when I played the song. Another thing that happened was that none of the songs loaded in freeplay. When I changed difficulty, they all loaded. Also occasionally the names of songs when picking an erect remix wouldn’t load correctly and look wonky.
6:43 just wanted to point out, the large one you see IS the one that's used. "randomChill" and the other one are the unused sprite sheets. I found this out when I erased the randomChill one and he continued to show up in-game
Why do I feel like the static placeholder will be the FINAL character to unlock. Like that is their actual design. With CHILL being their actual name. Their gimmick? They will randomly change to a different character mid song. Rapping against one only to rap against a different one part way through
Hey TetraBitGaming, theres this Cuphead ripoff that came out in January called Rubber Hose Rampage. It uses a lot if traced art from old cartoons including Steamboat Willie. You should play it as its actually pretty funny.
the 2 additional spritesheets for the static-y guy probably have to do with unlocking characters, and attempting to use a locked character, since both of those have animations in game.
i am neither good nor big into rhythm games, but this game is oozing so much style and fun that I probably will skin to much time into is as soon as I can play it on my steam deck

I'm pretty sure the daddy dearest icon being used at 1:40 was used as boyfriend's icon as a placeholder since he didn't have one at the time. Also Tankman is confirmed still as a playable unlike Cassette Girl and Hank.
some of these are used in the chart editor, accessible in-game by pressing ~ or ` on the main menu(where you pick story mode/freeplay/options..), and picking the "chart editor" option edit: the reason you didn't see them is because you need to actually place the events, or load a song with events already in it lmao
If they are still going with that playable characters image, then we know for sure Tankman will be playable, as well as Hank and Cassette Girl. One might be for GF, since she is the 2nd important face close to BF, so it would been illogical to not add her, and 2 guesses I have for some of the spots are Henry Stickmin and Edd from Eddsworld, since both of them originate from newgrounds and are important characters in the community.

Actually, the large version of randomchill (now named locked chill) is the one used, as it includes ALL animations, including locked turning into pico.
I think Tankman is incredibly likely considering he's the Newgrounds mascot. Dearest I could believe but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get added. His assets tended to be placeholders, didn't they? I might be remembering things wrong. I hope Girlfriend gets a character select slot, personally. Seeing her sing in mods like Mario's Madness just makes her feel...possible, I guess? Like there's a want for that outside of just me. It's hard to explain. Maybe a song set where Boyfriend is the opponent too, considering Pico being added makes it so player characters can potentially encounter themselves. I saw Isaac in the background of Pico's winter stages, and that game's sense of humor would be right at home in this game, so if he doesn't get added Imma be like "What the funk?"

The kickstarter characters are something different according to PA. Also, Hank is confirmed to be in the game still, thus its likely he is still planned to be a playable character.

Phantom Arcade has confirmed Spooky Kids I think 2-3 times throughout twitter and his streams, so don't worry, they're in good hands

Cassette girl has been long scraped way beforeb the drama, and they've stated that they've scraped her at the first draft because they did not knew what to do with her since it did not fit the style the game was going, also dave stated taht saruky did Cassette girl better in her own mod

That is honestly sad. Even though she's able to come to life through mods, it sucks the original won't be a canon thing in the game, but thats how game development goes I suppose. It's always fun though that some unused content that still goes unused still carries that since of memory. I time where they were being developed, but either due to time, style change, complete overhaul of a project, yet still live stagnant within files never to be updated or worked further upon. The mystery and speculation is infinitely intriguing.

I remember phantom arcade made an image that showed a few of the planned future playable characters, which included pico but also cassette girl and hank j Wimbleton, so they cud be a few other playable characters, unless we were just being trolled which wasn’t surprise me lol

As someone who has experimented with the engine, I'm going to provide my opinions on this. Good work though

1:54 To be honest I heavily doubt Daddy Dearest is one of the playable characters. His voice is just a worse version of BF's and I don't see anyone choosing him. Also the pixel icons are done procedurally rather than using an alternate png. I've seen someone predict his icon there was either a joke of a stand-in for hank, I believe that personally.
But tankman is 100% being added, especially with how involved his creator is with the game.
2:28 The kickstarter mentioned a two-player mode where players would sing against each other. I believe the mockup is meant for this rather than the freeplay selector.
Heavy speculation incoming: I think the +10 player characters thing is repurposed for the two player mode instead of the select menu we have right now. While the characters like Pico are far more ambitious, I think the characters in this section will just be vocal swaps of pre-existing songs. This could have been scrapped altogether but I don't think they would completely remove several of the main aspects of the kickstarter (2-player, online multiplayer, changing the opponent's voices...). Also for another prediction, the characters in the "vs" section will be much less ambitious in comparison to the big ones in the current selector.
6:54 The larger version is the one used in-game. The other two are leftovers from the previous way of doing it. The developers seem to be trying to switch to more efficient methods of rendering sprites such as texture atlasing in results and char select.

Week 4 and weekend 1 also got new backgrounds, the one for week 4 is only in the erect remixes and puts a more blue hue to the characters and background, while a fog has overtaken Philly in the BF mix of the song Darnell
Also I could’ve sworn I saw the colored sprite of Pico flipping the bird while playing the week one remixes. Also when I did the new remix of Pico, I got a glitch where the song would loop, seemingly indefinitely. There was no charting, and on the second loop, the smoke notes that appear when you miss scrolled occasionally as if they were normal notes. I left the song and moved on by the third loop. This only happened the first time when I played the song. Another thing that happened was that none of the songs loaded in freeplay. When I changed difficulty, they all loaded. Also occasionally the names of songs when picking an erect remix wouldn’t load correctly and look wonky.
6:43 just wanted to point out, the large one you see IS the one that's used. "randomChill" and the other one are the unused sprite sheets. I found this out when I erased the randomChill one and he continued to show up in-game

BTW, I really want GF to be a playable character for some reason

Oh I'm well aware of that, but since then it's also been confirmed that Cassette Girl isn't going to be added anymore apparently so that isn't 100% anymore
I'm pretty sure the daddy dearest icon being used at 1:40 was used as boyfriend's icon as a placeholder since he didn't have one at the time.

If they are still going with that playable characters image, then we know for sure Tankman will be playable, as well as Hank and Cassette Girl. One might be for GF, since she is the 2nd important face close to BF, so it would been illogical to not add her, and 2 guesses I have for some of the spots are Henry Stickmin and Edd from Eddsworld, since both of them originate from newgrounds and are important characters in the community.

I think Tankman is incredibly likely considering he's the Newgrounds mascot. Dearest I could believe but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get added. His assets tended to be placeholders, didn't they? I might be remembering things wrong. I hope Girlfriend gets a character select slot, personally. Seeing her sing in mods like Mario's Madness just makes her feel...possible, I guess? Like there's a want for that outside of just me. It's hard to explain. Maybe a song set where Boyfriend is the opponent too, considering Pico being added makes it so player characters can potentially encounter themselves. I saw Isaac in the background of Pico's winter stages, and that game's sense of humor would be right at home in this game, so if he doesn't get added Imma be like "What the funk?"
