I bought one of these direct from China, it has V1.2.8 software installed, which seems to fix a lot of the bugs and quirks you found. So for example auto ranging works, it doesn’t crash, or revert to weird presets etc. Still trying to get my head around the waveform generator app though. My probe also connects with no problem. So a pity they shipped you V1 code with a probe that doesn’t fit properly. Good review of what ZOYI sent you….Thank you …
I was considering one of these but after seeing both your and Dave's reviews I think I'll stick with what I have for now. Don't Zotek have anyone's testing these things at the factory?
Just got one of these as my old scope (HP 1725A - from like 10 years before I was born) is massive, difficult to use, and the beam from the CRT makes my eyes hurt. You can fit like like 30 of these guys in the space that my vintage scope takes. Hoping it works out ok for my tinkerings. Thanks for the review!
5:05 I think they fixed it? There's about 9.67mm between the end of the BNC connector and the case on my 703S. The probe clicks into place securely on mine. I ordered the ZT-703S last week and it arrived today.
Hey Scott, the reason you can not get below 100us is, you had activated the signal generator. As long as you activate the signal generator, the oscilloscope´s maximum measurement time base is limited to 100us. You can see in the video, on the display of the scope, that you have set a 2.000 kHz sinwave. Normally it shows a 1.000 kHz sqarewave for the probe compensation. The solution is in the manual, page 20, Signal Generator Functions Introduction. When you deactivate the signal generator, it will go below 100us.
Hey Scott, quick question, do you manage to get your ZT703S bellow than 100uS? I some videos where it went to 10nS, but mine will not go under 100uS. Is your able to? Thanks, great review!
Seems you are not alone find these quirks in the scope. Problem is that even at this price point do you buy it in the hope that a future firmware fixes the software bugs or wait. Me I think I will wait especially when the probe supplied can not be locked on. Seems this may have been rushed out to market without much testing.
Be good if they threw in a rubber cap to cover the spare probe jack for HT isolation. Also the links to the meter after the redirect to your own site appear to be broken.
After my experience with the zt702s I think I'll wait for the bugs to be worked out of this one. Oddly, the zt702s was great for automotive as delivered.. I then updated the firmware and it's crap now.
Thanks for the review as such, maybe handy for someone in the hobby audio industry. EEVblog Dave did a multimeter test on it and its utter garbage. But for that kind of money?
If you know how to properly put together an oscilloscope RF cable, by themselves, they actually don't cost too much. If you know to do it right, naturally you would have something decent to start with.
All these handheld, does it all, scopes seem to be crappy some how. Why not build a decent handheld, excluding the AWG & DMM. So much is crammed into that box. It's all competition, mine is bigger than yours. Not better though. 😏
That scope meter has to many bugs and issues, some pretty serious. The scope portion is a complete hot mess. I personally won’t recommend it till those issues are resolved if it were me.

@@CarstenVolkmar great info ! Thanks for that.

Mine does. Latest firmware

OH! Is the usb socket ground connected to the BNCs? That could really end spectacularly for the absent minded user if it is haha.
@JonnyFix I expect that it is.
I don't recall the 702S being this unstable and buggy when it was reviewed. Did they manage to create a new, buggier firmware for the 703s?
And interestingly Dave didn’t have the same issues I did…
I didn't note this down, but I'm curious as to which firmware versions reviewers tested. Were they all the same? @@TheDefpom
Dave had a preview model, couldn't be updated

You are biased in class A mode 😂
Seems like the firmware needs a lot of debugging.
Thanks for part 1.
It does’t want to be an oscilloscope, it wants to rock
Relax, let the shit mongers keep on shovelling their shit !
You just keep doing your reviews as i find them both unbiased and informative 🤓🔧👍

Latest firmware... 1.4.2. Sept 25 2024.
As for the oscilloscope it looks like a hot pile of shit.

@@TheDefpom 😂😂😂😂😂 Nailed it! 😂😂😂😂😂
Let's hope they decide to iron out the issues with a update but looks like a nice little meter so far
