We seen Tarja perform at her sold out concert in New York in September of 2018. She was spectacular and performed this beautiful song beautifully. We've been Nightwish fans since 1997 and truly love all 3 vocalists and appreciate their very different styles. We've never compared them to each other. Why should we? Just enjoy them. People make it seem that Floor can walk on water. She can't. She's just an amazing and wonderful versatile singer. But I guess some people can't appreciate that without turning it into a competition. Enjoyed your reaction, brother.
Thanks Miguel, Yeah I don't really think it should be a competition between artistst unless they are actually in some sort of competition. Not something fans make up.
Comparing is ok, when there is respect. It's only natural to compare Anette and Floor to Tarja, when they are performing songs from her era. And it's also ok to have a favorite singer/version, nothing wrong with that. I usually prefer Tarja on most of these older songs, but I really love Floor's versions as well. Anette's style was not for me, but after years have passed, I have started to like her more too. And I would never understand how can someone dislike any Nightwish videos/reactions because of the singer, or if reactor prefers one of them. Every fan should have equal right to enjoy their favorite version without seeing his/hers favorite being understated. And all these lovely ladies deserves love, not hate.
it might be becasue i'm not just starting to hear the music she did with Nightwish, but I am enjoying her sound with them as well, but on the same note, I have really come to love not just the sound but the overall presense tha Floor brings to the group. But hey, i'm now catching up on Tarja's work, so we'll see.✌✌
No one can and shouldn't take away your opinion. In my opinion did Tarja a solid job with Nightwish. To be honest, back then I listened to Nightwish and I liked the songs, but always thought that I would like them more with a more versatile singer with a less thick accent. Also actually I remember thinking that the vocals were overly profiled. Tarja is even better now, way more versatile and hardly any accent while singing. She's doing great solo and in projects. I don't think it's fair to any of them to compare the three vocalists in public, it's can almost be toxic. Anette is always the looser and she shouldn't have to be. At the very least she should have credit for keeping Nightwish going after Tarja. I think she did more than a decent job in studio. Not live though. She's 1 octave short and would drown in a gospel choir, but she's not a bad singer. It shouldn't have to be a competition, because it isn't. Sure, I prefer Floor's voice to the other two, but that's me. I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone else. It's a distinct difference between stating a fact ex "Floor has wider vocal range than.." or declaring an opinion; "I think Floor has a more soulful voice". The thing is that people doesn't always communicate that it is an opinion and then discussions can get.. not so fun anymore.
@@Paul_C It always seems to be the "Floor people" who bring the salt , and make snarky comments to create the conflict. Nothing against Floor, just her obsessive spiteful fans.
Thanks Risto, I was sure it was part of the music they wrote for the Solar eclipse and I was pretty sure it was part of the End of an Era tour, but wasn't sure if this was the last concert
@@CUTnPASTEreacts May I suggest "Meadows of Heaven" ? IMHO it's the best Anette performance and a wonderful ballad (Spoiler: Irish folk turns into gospel...). Unfortunately there is no HQ live video available, but I would suggest to react to this visually beautiful lyric video, which has a decent audio quality, too: th-cam.com/video/vxsjv6LtRz0/w-d-xo.html
I know exactly what you mean - I can't quite explain what it is, but as amazinglky talented as Floor is there is something about Tarja's voice that just fits Nightwish' music so well. They flow in perfect unison. Her voice is so powerful with such range, and yet she always sounds absolutely effortless. It never sounds like shes straining or pushing herself to the limits of her ability. I think maybe that smooth effortlessness and control and the darker, more dramatic tone of her voice is what makes it mesh so well with the band's music and Thuomas' lyrics. Floor is amazing, and when she I hear her rendition of Poet and the Pendulum I cant get through it without feeling an intense emotional connection. But I feel that kind of connection with almost every song I hear Tarja sing - even when its just listening to one of the studio versions in my car. She's just so ...etheral. Then to add to that there's also the image she creates - she brings a dark gothic cues blended in with the most timeless elegance. When I see her perform a song like this her visual style enhances the performance because she looks every bit as angelic as she sounds.
I feel like Tarja's voice is like a wave, or a blanket, which kinda mirrors your statement about that first moment/breathe out/loosening of the shoulders coming home
I'm a newer fan, found them about two years ago, and the Tarja era is what i ended up gravitating to, because of the music mainly. The style changed with each new singer, and frankly their last two albums are my least favorite, the early style they did, and the magical production on those albums (aside from the debut album) is the sweet spot for me. With a handful of exceptions, Tarja's voice is the one I prefer on her own songs, since that is the voice they were made for. Same goes for the other two..well, Floor gobbled up most of the Annette songs she sings, poor girl. i do feel bad for her, she did her best and gets so much hate for it.
You are pretty spot on. Tajra was a classical singer at heart who grew in a metal band. Floor is a metal singer at heart who has trained in basically everything and has the ability to change between them more readily
She is so amazing. Please react to Mein Herr Marquis from her Beauty and the Beat tour with Mike Terrana and End of all hope with Nightwish from the Summer Breeze Festival 2002.
Sleeping Sun was the song and album that made me discover Nightwish. But that was all I knew from them until last year. Then I discovered Nightwish with Floor and I was in shock. Now they are one of my 3 favourite bands (along with Genesis and Pink Floyd). This last half year I’ve been listening to them day in day out. I listened to all three singers and boy, how many bands can say they had three top-quality singers. So I really don’t understand the ongoing arguments about who was the best. There is not a best one, only difference is what you like best. In general I like Floor best (but hé, being Dutch I’m a bit biased :-), especially the live concerts. But to me the two Anette albums are probably the best Nightwish albums ever. And as I said it was Tarja who did the first enchantment. And I still think she is perfect for this song (and a couple more). So let’s stop the useless comparing and just enjoy the magic of this band and the great number of beautiful songs they performed in all those years. Thanks for your reaction, always enjoys them as well. Keep safe!
Tarja was very good in the operatic style, people used to opera invariably have the lyrics nearby, either in printed form handed out before the concert or they know the storyline by heart. However Floor has a pronunciation which is easily understood. From that point she is the better fit for the band.
You know, I haven't given alot of thought to how others hear operatic music or how they hear the lyrics while it's being sung. I would guess it comes down alot to what you're used to hearing. For example, with reggae or Soca, that's a form of music I'm very used to, so even though the lyrics are 90% of the time in English, alot of people don't actually hear the lyrics and have to read them. But to me, I just hear the words. I would imagine that a lot of Nighwish's fans were not originally listening to Operatic style music and might have struggled to catch the lyrics. Thx for brining that up, really interesting now that I'm thinking about it.
@@CUTnPASTEreacts When it comes to struggling to catch the lyrics, well, some of that was definitely on Tarja's accent, but honestly, for some songs, Tuomas and his fantasy references contribute as well. The song Wishmaster is probably the most famous (infamous?) for this, to the point that TH-camrs made a "Misheard Lyrics Video" for it which is absolutely hilarious.
I can never fault Tarja because she helped to create Nightwish but I find her her high opera style grating. She was much better in the earlier albums before she was overtrained to my mind.
fair enough, I haven't hear enough of her work to know the differences of her progression. But I can say I don't think her voice would be my favorite on all the Nightwish songs I've heard, but on this one it has a real homely feel to me.
Great song, great reaction, but you are always reacting nice honnest, i must be honnest i am fan of nightwish for a long time, and for me Floor is the one that made nightwish for a greater fan base. Nothing bad about the voice of all 3 singers, but floor is the one most fursetail, stay safe
Hi Chanda, I think it is really funny how some reactors think that what Emppu is doing is easy and simple, and that is even said by some reactors who play guitar themselves. What they clearly do not realize at all is that making a guitar evoke emotions, and let it talk as you say, not only requires the technique they think they are missing out on, but the absolute understanding of an instrument and being one with it. I think he is currently one of the most underrated guitar players in the world. He is a genius with a guitar. Tarja is indeed an opera singer, and she is good, but that is where, for me anyway, it stops. This is where it begins for me with Floor, and that is why I prefer to hear her singing. It is quite funny, because I used to be the cool, distant Dutch guy, not letting emotions slip or let through from behind the curtain at all, until, until I worked in Italy during my studies for a total of about a year. Italy is a wonderful place, where people generally are a bit more extrovert (yeah, I know, understatement), and show their feelings, hug, and touch all the time. I found I really enjoyed that. It really felt so natural after a short while. Ever since that time, many years ago, I want my music to pull out, work on, makes by brain twist around, and make me feel, my emotions. The music I truly love does just that. That is Nightwish for me, especially in combination with Floor singing, and no other music does come close. For me, Floor is easily as good as Tarja, but the way she plays with evoking those emotions, no other singer does that as well as any other singer I have ever heard. And that, for me, my friend, is why I prefer Floor. And why I love Nightwish. It is a personal thing, and to each their own, of course ... Anyway, great reaction, as usual! Loved it! Love, warmest regards, Wim
Thanks Wim, I have to agree, there is one thing to play an instrument and it's another level of skill to really make that instrument "sing" and in my opinion he does that there so effortlessly. I've only visited the Netherlands as a tourist and for work so I can't comment on there social habits. I also haven't listened enough of Tarja's work to make a fair assessment but I do think I would still preffer Floor as she a wide range of styles that she can leverage. ✌✌
Yes, music is all about emotions and getting into the hearts of the people. Emppu can shred as hell like on the old nw records or with barilari, altaria and on some brother firetribe stuff but that’s nothing that touches the people. Just guitar players are liking shredding solos dont know much people who are into shredding without playing an instrument by themselves. So all in all nobody cares about the complexitie of a guitar solo. It just have to sound good and it has to fit the song.
Good way to express your impressions: that 'to me' somwthing or somebody sounds like this. And no need to bash yourself for not remembering some stuff.
