- I built a battlecar out of my Nissan Quest minivan and I call her "QUESTionable". Let me show you how I did it.
Oh, and T-Shirts! diymatt.link/t...
► ABOUT THE VIDEO
I'm not much of a mini-van kinda guy. I like vehicles with some personality, and my Quest was sorely lacking in that department. I found some tires on Craigslist for the right price and made it my mission to get them to fit. It took about 2 weeks and a required a whole lot of wrenching but it was totally worth it. Now I can drop off the kiddo at school in style and be ready to drive over curbs or flooded city streets at a moments notice.
► PARTS USED
3" steel spring spacers for the rear
amzn.to/2wg90H4
1/4" steel for the brackets I made from scratch for the front of the van.
1 1/2" Wheel spacers so the wheels would not hit the strut towers.
amzn.to/2wfLz0D
Red Kap work shirt, for looking fly when you are making things.
amzn.to/2xDhasy
Roof Rack
amzn.to/2wzHeaV
Roof Rack Extension (modified to fit)
amzn.to/2wzNCPA

What a great vehicle! I just got a 2012 Quest and I'm inspired. And yeah, your rig is PLENTY cool.
This is definitely cool, I wish I had friends in Michigan who could help me do something like this
BRO, THE BONUS MATERIAL WAS GOLDEN JUST SEEN IT
Im ngl ill probly end up doing that on the better part of vehicles for years to come
Incredible conversion hell! yeah! one of the best I've seen lately !! I seen more than over 50 conversions and yours is not that complicated, an expensive, as those ,but a lot better than most of them !!!
Genius on the front brackets, so simple, yet effective.
Yes it is... and it happens to be just what I want and need... But I will just have to use whatever AT's that will already fit.
Thanks for the video!
I've been looking for vids to do something similar to my 2007 Kia Sedona and here you have done it! Great job.
Yeah I would try and level it out and get the rest a little higher still. Especially if/when you load it down with gear and people in the back
I'm liking the yellow in the wheel arches, nice touch. Yes. you made it cool! thumbs up haha!
It looks great ! I converted my grand caravan into mini camper van and now I am thinking about this kind of lift 👍
I think that it is badass! It's a enduro!! I've been looking to get a quest to go to the lake or desert that's exactly what I had in mind. You Guy's knocked it out of the park, great job!
Congratulations my friend it’s a good very good job,I like the way you explain things without complications.Nice job on a Nissan Quest..👍
That van is awesome man, would love to put a lift on my van
Has potential. I might take this proof of concept and go all in.
This is just a proof of garbage. :D Unless you put a real truck chassis under it will always suck in any conditions other than dry.
@@diymatt Aren't most minivans built on SUV chassis?
Not a minivan anymore. It's now a ManVan
True
Soo economic eazy i love it
Nice. I adding a 3 inch lift and 29.5 tires to my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan.
But...why
Wife has a 2015 Dodge Journey, already somewhat lifted, good low end torque, plenty of room in the wheel well, AWD. Might be a project in 5 years or whenever she’s done with it.
2 questions.
1. Why did you choose to cut the fenders rather than roll them? (I guess proper rolling would have needed a tool you didn't have?)
2. What's the best way to mark the new wheel arch?
this is badass. i may copy some of it. as kids we did something similar to a dodge neon. it was awesome.
Wish I have the skills like you.
Wow that is super cool. I have a 2006 Quest and gonna try and convince my wife that we need to do this!!! 😂
I’m Cleveland we do stuff like this all the time I had big bf good rich tires on my Honda Odyssey and on my Subaru out back
Free ExtraGramSam dude I wanna do this to my parents odyssey they are looking on replacing their 04 Honda Odyssey with a newer suv and instead of selling it I want to keep it and add some boggle tires a roof rack and maybe an led bar 😅
That’s exactly what you should do
Looks pretty frigging dope dude. I like it. I kinda wanna do this with my aunts 06 Town and Country if I buy it from her. But that van I also wanna sorta convert it into a service truck for doing mobile mechanic work. My ideas are in the air though and I havnt even bought the thing yet.
You’re a legend dude! I’m in Mexico and there a speed bumps I scrape on everywhere. I have a solution!
Love the van. Not sure about front diy brackets lasting under off road driving... And yes, the yellow inner fender needs to change, but that is just my opinion. Good job on video style!!!
I'm about too get one that me and my wife think is awesome! And it's not half as cool as yours.
Good job that's sick. Just need a good sound system, and a TV/Gaming setup in the back. Then I think it would be as cool as it gets.
We're gonna be pulling a camper with ours which inside that will be our entertainment/gaming stuff lol
I love it! When can I bring my 2008 Quest???😁🥰
Nice job on the minivan! I cant believe you dont have more subscribers and views!!
Cool . Subscribed. Looking forward to more videos bud.🤙🤙🤙
Im glad I saw this. I have a 2012 Quest and I’m going to do this now. Question’ with the lift kit do it still need to be cut?
Any updates. I'm ordering journey lift kit. I like to have that extra clearance
Enjoyed the video! Really impressed with the lift ingenuity!
What about making the tailgate black how do you think it would look?
It looks good lift and hope that front metal don't bent lol but it's good idea to put lift
Can you make the front brackets for me? I also have a 2005 quest I would like to do something similar to.
How's the bump steer? Considering the tie rods are no longer parallel to the ground at ride height, it would seem like the steering wheel would be moving a lot when you're not on a smooth road.
Very unique would like to see how it performs offroad
hah. It performs like a slippery turd offroad. Terrible.
What about the working angle of the transmissions, im worry that maybe it suffer a bit, am i right? Or just exagerating?
I was wondering where you ordered your lift from I want to do this to my quest
VERY COOL MINI VAN MAN.
dont know if your still active or not but ive now owned 2 of these vans and there my favorite car ever, it would be awesome if you could do a update video on this if you still have it. if you dont still have it well you should of sold it to me because i would of bought the hell out of that
ive been wanting to do a built like this for my current quest but im still a little confused on how you got the back lifted? the part you tagged in the comments for it just looks a little weird, did it work in the long run? also what exact tires did you use? im having a hard time finding a pair in my area that will fit
the van is gone now,in the junk yard...I have a 2009 Quest with 91K miles in it,I might do something crazy like that as well.
How's the battlevan holding up? I miss your videos. Hope you and the family are doing well. Happy New year
Well, I am glad that you are doing well. Just checking in to see how you've been. Happy New Year to you and the family. Im not going anywhere. I always enjoy your videos.
Looking good, I been doing some mods like this with my 05 odyssey next I am adding a bull bar in black! Have you added that yet?
I like it,need top modify my grand Caravan
Brush guard, couple offroad lights, and you're good.
This video deserves more than 1000 likes also how were you able to find parts for the suspension im looking to do a similar job on a 2001 chrysler
Will this compromise drive train etc?
yep. Absolutely. Don't do this to anything you care about unless you like swapping out cv joints.
No , he simply lifted the body. There are 6 long bolts attaching the frame to the body. I was under my Quest today. Its already pretty beefy under there compaired to the Dodge Wimpy Vans. I think they over engineered the Quest. I have never seen that much metal except in my 1978 3/4 Ton Conversion van. As with any van, its a total bitch doing anything to the engine.
RC Hobbyist Extreme thanks for the insight. I have a 2011 quest, quite different form this, but this is a cool option. Idk bout mpg tho 😂
#diyMATT dang! Ahhh
I'd rock the shit out of that minivan. Looks mint with the tires. Don't like the yellow inner fender, but you do you. Nissan makes a pretty decent product for the most part. I still bang around with an old Maxima.
Love it! Looks great! Maybe paint it black?
You have to go and Rally-cross that get out of my way grocery cart. Good job.
did u fix the toe and camber and how
I dig it. You made an uncool mini van into a lifted mini van.
Cool minivan
Awesome intro. And great editing skills!
This is most definitely cool.
That was Great dude!!
what about adding some off road bumper bars?
Well I love it, all try it on my 2010 Mazda5
you crushed it... now for the inside? Subwoofer?
I like the yellow , just at a bit more to the van or on the rims
Glad i saw this video i was going to get those plastic spacers cause my rear sits so low... is it really illegal to raise up the rear I have a 2013 nissan quest... where did you get the steel spacers
The rubber ones just didn't give me the height I needed to get those tires to fit. They may work for you. I needed to go much higher than most rational people consider smart is all. The metal ones I just grabbed from amazon. amzn.to/2wg90H4
All that being said, if I had to do it all over again I think i'd go with air helper bags. Something like this. amzn.to/2U7v0yC
How's the spacers been treating you? My quest won't fit down my driveway cause the undercarriage scrapes the cement. I'm sorta worried about if it's gonna feel more bumpy or less
Need more videos of the minivan
what kind of size tires did you use????
Cool camping vehicle
I dig it!
What size it's roof mounted
Look great! I’m on the same project with my Nissan quest 2007. Please what are exact tire size, spaces and the springs specs pls. If you have ig it’ll be better to follow you up.
You need to add a custom aggressive steel front bumper and steel rear bumper, then paint the whole car black.
Dood it looks factory chuckles ^^ keep the black and yellow ^
Dude this is awesome. I want to do that to my 2014 Dodge Grand caravan! Any suggestions for parts?
solocisneros I agree I have a 2006 chrystler town and country and I want to do all terrain tires rims lift kit some cool led interior around my headliner and other cool stuff as far as parts I’ve been looking them up by google and car I d .com
If you still have your van, you may find this interesting: www.journeysoffroad.com/dodgegvlift.html
This was fun to watch
Do you think the rear spacers would work on a 08 Toyota sienna fwd minivan? thanks
I wanna do this to my previa
How’s the gas consumption?
That’s exactly how I would want a van only thing missing is solar panels and a hich ❤️ it why can they just have them factory made like that
👍
You're awesome man!
Question. I have a dodge grand caravan awd. I wanna do a shitty lift. How did your half shafts hold up?
I never did any legit off-roading so keep that in mind, but everything held up fine. My interest fell away faster than the car parts. She still tracks fine and can do 70mph on the highway. I just use it as a backup car now for when I am doing work on our daily drivers. I suspect it will go away soon. I want a new project car and you can only do so much with a old crappy Quest. 🤣
@@diymatt Awesome! Ok hat's great to know. My van won't be lifted as high, only 225/70r16 AT+M tires ( about 1.5" more clearance to fit under the front spring perch in the strut) and maybe a 2" lift kit?
@@goclunker Nobody ever said, "sure, 2" is enough"
@@diymatt I know i know, but after seeing half shalf horror stories...idk. It would be nice to drop the entire front subframe down and extend the steering linkage handivan style, space the rear diff, that way there would be no driveline stress with lots of extra body lift
Search you down from your review on those rear spacers on Amazon 😂😂
Definitely cool! Thumbs up!
How's the CV Axles holding up to that lift
Fantastic thanks for asking! When the winch dragged it up the back of a tow-truck everything was buttery smooth.
Now the engine....not so much. 😎
(I junked it after 3 years due to some engine issues I was unwilling to put any considerable effort into)
When you made the spindle brackets did you drill all 3 holes in a line or did you drill one of them offset for camber?
I traced the spindle holes and transferred the rubbing to the steel to get the exact locations. Then I ended up ovaling one of the holes to provide for camber adjustment. I bought camber bolts but they were too short. Kinda hacky, but the car doesn't get much use and it was enough to get them lined up enough to not cause damage.
@@diymatt okay thanks for the info!
Looks sharp!
Matt make sure you get a proper alignment before you take this thing on the highway! I just did something similar to my wife's Dodge but its not as cool as modding a minivan.
BTW, as a followup, I tried the highway recently. Does 75mph and tracks straight, no vibrations. I got lucky. 😎
This is so entertaining, love it
I wish I could turn my minivan into a man van
Man van? Is there even such thing?
There is now. LoL.
Just out of curiosity and because I really have no idea, if you put spacers in and gave it a lift, would you have to cut the fenders to get the tires to fit? Loved the build by the way, Thumbs UP. ...EDIT... I think I see now, the tires are still too big for the fenders with regards to the front and back of the fenders. I see the pictures you posted on Instructables. www.instructables.com/id/I-Made-a-battlecar-Out-of-My-Soccer-Mom-Minivan/
lol, I had found the answer to my question and edited my post above without refreshing the page, just to see you had answered my question. I feel like I just discovered the internet at times. Thanks again.
I like it, but you should use a toyota sienna they come all wheels drive it will fit better with you live style, at least that's my opinion.
Oh I hear ya.
I found this cheap and liked the body lines is all. It will never be something I throw into deep mud or the woods. It just plain silliness really.
So now it's a front wheel drive, A/T minivan with giant tires. Hope it never has to actually battle anything.
hah, totally correct. If I was ever in need of a vehicle that could go anywhere and do anything, the truck would be fired up first. The minivan...well...it's just for groceries, school and fun. 🤘😎
It would be decent in snow. I had a front wheel drive caravan. It did great ( fir not being 4x4)
SUV's are the evolution of minivans. More modern SUVs are the same size or bigger as all the 90's minivans. So basically the most driven style of vehicle these days are minivans.
Cool. Now get rid of that gold emblem and you're ready for a wrap.
Tienes buenas ideas
Hey Matt !!!! Awesome Video brother !!!! Can you do a 2005 Dodge Cargo Caravan ??? I'm willing to travel, drop off the van and let you work your magic ??!! for some $$$ .... let me know what range of the total cost that would be.... Thank You !!! Oscar...
Sick van.
Super cool!!!
Hi Matt one question ??? What rear spring spacer you use. Thanks!!!!
Whoops, my comment got lost at some point. I used these spacers. amzn.to/2zSl0Sx
Dude, I just bought an 04. With 4 kids, the minivan is our primary conveyance. I am doing this lol. You have specs for your strut lift brackets?
#diyMATT its the backup to the backup. I've had other weird cobble up cars, and seeing the simplicity of this sparked my "why not" instinct. Ill keep u posted though and appreciate the reponse! Let this be a waiver to any shenanigans my build may cause under the influence of youtube....😂
#diyMATT figured I would combat the camber issues first. Spacers on their way as well as strut lift mounts for the xterra. Also decided on a medium offset rim instead of lug centric spacers
hi do you have specs
@@minivanwhy874 how did the mods work
Very nice "conversion" 😎
Is super cool ! I like it !!
