In this video we present 10 year old Rahul Vellal performing "Baaro Krishnayya" , a composition by Sri Kanakadasa, set to Aadi Taala. This is a Raaga Maalika in which the Pallavi begins in Raag Maand and moves on to Raagas Mishra Peelu ( Not Kalyana Vasantham as given in the video ) and Jonpuri in Charanams. The Meaning of the song translates to inviting Lord Krishna to his devotee's house, in Kannada.

Didn't know Indian music used quarter tones too. Very beautiful.
Carnatic music employs more notes beyond the chromatic 24 quarter notes. Depends on the raga the composition is sung in.
It's a rather unfortunate situation that nowadays, in the quest to make fusion music, there is a tendency to blunt carnatic ragas to fit Western intonation. Speaking of quarter tones, I find that it is easier to just throw the entire concept of notes behind in order to comprehend carnatic melodies. The melodies are incredibly fluid and the intonation changes in myriad ways throughout a composition to covey different emotional nuances. I think it's just easier to forget everything and just allow the music to flow through.
