In short, they do not have the experience of a street gang member. a skinny from my neighborhood the first thing they would do to beat you is to run backwards and take a stone and throw it at the same time you already have your hand cut, kicked plus you never mind 1 vs 1. also make the feint and throw the knife with force to more or less short distance. or make the feint of pressing the knife on the other hand with the other hand throws sand in your eyes or pebbles when you knock it down if you can, but it opens the tendons of your hands, as much as you can. for lugo run back as cowards and then burst to stone, once invalid and just come to put you how many patches of resentment you find them before their failure because the normal only you steal and are attentive to the police to run.

Really instructive the way you deliver kicks and fists, not necessarily large and coming from a mile away, but quick, repetitive, and pointy, like if your force was going through every last inch of your fingers or toes to keep each of your blows as painful as possible in the end.
Very useful, i could sense a complete neuromuscular connection in the way you fight. I won't forget that.

So realistic. Love that you go out and put your stuff to a test unlike many guys that teach unrealistic knife defense such as Kali guys and then they go around taking about how it works without any proof.

    • @TheSk8metal
      @TheSk8metal 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

+Damjan Visnjic Luckily, Kali has a lot of sparring, so if techniques doesn't work, they will simply do something else... I do Kali myself, and also jujitsu. I must say that traditional martial arts such as jujitsu teaches some of the most unrealistic forms of knife defences, truth be told.

why would they tackle you when they have a knife? Also, your point is not that invalid in this instance because the attacker has a weapon, so he will have balls of steel to attack even a bigger person.

Finaly a realistic knife defence vid that showed exactly what I've been saying for years: If you wanna know how effective your knife defence is, put on a white T-shirt, give some random guy some head gear and a marker and offer him some money to try and mark you.
    You did that exactly!
It also showed just what I expected , that good striking skills are going to be your biggest asset in such a situation. A good understanding of distance timing and good reflexes developed from years of sparring will serve you more than most of the fantasy based SD being taught. awesome job!

I figured out years back doing martial arts, any type of grab won't work unless you stun the person first. But like some of the comments below, I agree a knife attack is hardly seen coming. However stand-offs like this DO happen.
A few years back a man (with training in jiu jitsu)in my country was chasing a perp (I think a burglar, not sure), but eventually the guy faced the man. The perp attacked with a knife from the get go & and as far as I can recall it was not conceiled. The other man succesfully defended himself. Either the perp ran way or was arrested. I also don't remember, LOL, newspaper articles...
Not so long ago (a few months or a year ago)an old female classmate of mine told about a burglar incident she & her husband experienced. There was noise at one of their doors (I think it was the backdoor, could have been the front), the husband opened said door & there was a burglar with a screwdriver. There was a short fight & the burglar ran away. The husband had a few small stab wounds but nothing too serious.
Conclusion, there are different kinds of situations you can run into.

I had quite much experience in knife combat, i had trained it for few years, meet some awesome people that can perform some crazy shit with even simple and dull blade piece. If you by any chance encounter a guy who knows some shit and he is using a decent knife that is well balanced ure fucked - unless its winter time and ure wearing really thick coat like 9/10 well done throws will burry that blade deep in ur back. Sure - run away, but first of all work out the situation that allows you to make a safe run [im talking about open enviroment, since we already covered that we wont run in staircase etc], stun the guy, blind him [with pepper spray or improvise - use dirt, use anything], drop down the attacker and then run like hell. That's incredibly intense. And fair play to the people who willingly took part to practise with you. It made this so much more spontaneous and realistic, like I'd imagine how frantic and lethal an attack would be from someone, especially if they're trying to use a knife. Really puts into perspective why many of the best of MMA and self defence trainers tell you to just run if someone truly tries harming or even threatens you with a lethal weapon. It's bloody awful that some still resort to such vicious and cowardly means. But instead of just going along with the mainstream media, labelling them as "evil", better for law enforcement to get to the root cause, which unfortunately, is lack of education and inequality in society. All over the World it's rife 😕🤨

Great scenario. Interesting to see how effectively you use low leg kicks to keep the assailant out of striking/stabbing range. Since I do the same thing and find it effective, naturally I agree with this tactic - I'm sure others would disagree - I just know what works for me. I would suggest you provide shin guards to your opponent (I bought a pair of hockey goalie shin guards at Goodwill and paid $10 for the set - also bought a pair of catcher's shin guards at another Goodwill for a few bucks), as it protects their legs and allows you to go harder. I really like this video as you are pressure testing your tactics instead of just doing drills that don't emulate reality. Keep the videos coming- thanks for sharing.

never love lead leg kick and palm strike in my life than this time, too good :)) the reality and effectiveness, realistic technique that you bring in to this video was open for me another think of close quarter combat, empty hand against weapones violent, i feel more confidence now because I know what and how I need to train now, very thanks to you!

Nick Drossos should have been on "6 martial arts experts locked in a room with a knife" with Martial Arts Journey. I feel like he's one of the only people who knows how to defend a knife attack without dying.

This video is really cool! I like how you use leg kicks and palm strikes to the head
in order to stop your attacker from coming in to strike.

Your video is very amazing Nick. This kind of video is very rare on the internet and I really appreciate you being honest and realistic about the knife defense. With all due respect I wish I could go and challenge you like what they did in this video, no offense but just like you, as a martial art practitioner I'm always interested to find out what works and what doesn't (I have participated in competitions several years ago, not anymore now but I think I still have better footwork and feinting movements than these guys in the video). Anyway keep up the good work and guess what I've subscribed to your channel already!

This puts Nick at a huge disadvantage. I mean, c'mon if some dude attacks you with a knife AND head gear ..you in trouble bro! Kudos to Nick
